    Please show close ups of the elastic stitching process. The end result is nice and I tried it but I did not understand exactly how you got your results.

    Do you recommend complete beginners to pointe use the elastorib style ribbons with elastic insert over stretch ribbons? Have heard they are more supportive

  • @DancewithmaryNYC

    @DancewithmaryNYC

    Great question. In my professional opinion no. The ribbons are too stretchy and offer no support (tendinitis ribbons are different than stretch). The tying of the ribbons mimc the crossing of crucial tendons in the foot. Those tendons, bones, and muscles need resistance and support to keep things in place. The tendinitis ribbon serve a purpose for achilles issues, the super stretchy ones are good for fast changes and injury issues. I am a fan of the Chacott stretch that have a slight give. The problem with Chacott is they only sell it by the bolt and it is pricey. I think there is a trend going on with the young students, they see a gorgeous, professional dancer on social media and they immediately want to imitate. I understand some give in the ribbons, but I've seen my own students wearing something that looks like an overstretched rubber band and then they wonder why the shoe is not fully connected to their ankle and foot.

    Can you teach us how to darn the tips of your point shoes? My teacher gives us the tips to paste for friction but I want to learn how to darn it

    I love darning mine, I darn the entire tip and all the way down to the sole with Patton's grace cotton yarn. I then put a coat of OPI rubberized base coat over the darning stitches for even more traction and I get so much longer out of the tips.

    When you purchase ribbons they give you a set amount - sually 2.5 yards depending on the brand. That is why you stitch first and then cut off excess. I covered how to tie pointe shoes in a separate video kzread.info/dash/bejne/mq6YlpmEZrmamNI.html I also have an entire playlist devoted to helping first timers
