Thank you for a great tutorial!

I can't wait to get started on this block. I never knew what a "y seam" was until now. Edyta you are so easy to understand, you really know how to teach.You are so thorough and explain things before I even think of asking. Thank you for this tutorial.

I can't tell you how many times I have watched this video and the simple 8 point star, I love to watch them but still a little scared to try. I think I am going to give it a shot this time though. I would like for you to please tell Edyta that I am so thankful that she will give her time to share her knowledge with me and everyone else who has this passion to make beautiful quilts. Wonderful I still plan to make five pointed stars Well.... learn to make them same fashion as the eight points as in both of these videos. My daughter is my 4th if July kid and her name is Liberty. And I owe her a patriotic quilt.... I still would have to figure out a pattern design and all the layout and fabrics. Wish me luck. More importantly the exact techniques taught in the 8points are immensely valuable to my knowledge bank of sewing. I love precision exact and sharp point and the challenge of it all. hi, you have 2 set of strips, for istance: one is composed of #2 dark fabric 1.1/2 " wide + #1 of light fabric 2.1/2" wide and the second one is composed #2 of light fabric 1.1/2 " wide + #1 of dark fabric 2.1/2" wide.After sewing your 2 strips set, cut the first every 1.1/2" (smaller slice) and the second one every 2.1/2" (bigger slice) on 45° angle ruler.Your finished diamond is composed of #2 smaller slice (at each side)and #1 bigger slice (in the middle).It works!

I have made the 8 PT star several times now. The large one in the video came out beautifully. BUT I still had trouble with the little ones in the Garden Quilt. My sizes are off. I try very hard to match just as you show. But they are small. The 11" finish block you demonstrated was only 11 ¼ . Any advice on where I might be going wrong. I tested my ¼" seam before sewing. Very frustrated.

Do you by chance have pattern for a 7 point star done the same way?

Love all of the video tutorials with Edyta. In the pattern for this is shows the 1.25" rows for the diamond. In the video, it shows a wider middle strip and thinner outer strips. What are the dimensions for the strips? The pattern indicates that you're still cutting a 2.75" diamond.. Thanks!

I have an online class with Edyta and love her too, I too have the same question as Ritz Young and from the answer I still don't see the exact measurement for the center wider strip. I'm guessing it's double to the first strip and you cut that strip the same as that measurement? Thank you Patty

+Patty Provost look at the grid when she sets them down. The larger one looks to be 2-1/2 and the smaller 1-1/2

How did everyone got their 3 columns of blocks to align correctly? I've turned the stitches 3 times to get them to align the correct position. Any tips? Help please, Edyta! Can you show a tutorial of how you align the columns of blocks? Thank you.

HI Barbara, the star she is demonstrating is from her Laundry Basket Quilts pattern Gingerbread Trio. You can find all the sizes there!

It's a great design. I do big start design quilts. It will be helpful if you can actually put together a piece from beginning to end to help me understand how this works. this is not a very helpful tutorial if we want to make one.

I am really having a problem with the center not laying flat, my centers are not coming together at a point.. I'm sure it's because of the bias, is there any way to fix a stretched bias? I'm thinking of soaking it and re-ironing it at this point. Very disappointing because of all the work.

With the strip diamond quilt, did you sew the strips together, THEN cut the diamonds?

Is there any way to find this pattern? It is not on the webpage you listed

This is wonderful, however, I struggle with the transition point when putting two strips together, I am not sure where to place the pinning. My blocks are not really aligned. Can someone help? Edyta's finger was in the way, I can't see where the transition point is.

Hello Lumi! You lay your strips so the corners are offset about 1/4". This will take practice and some adjusting. When she pins the stripsets together, she pulls back the edge to show that you pin where the four fabrics meet. If they are not meeting up, simply shift the fabric as needed until they do.

Kimberly, where did you get your tiny label that contains your name and year 2014? I want plenty of those! Who was the vendor?

+Fat Quarter Shop I don't think this is the same pattern that Edyta demonstrates in this video. She has different widths of fabric in her strip set. The pattern page only has strip sets with all the same widths.

I love this 8 point star. However Im very confused. The pattern Edyta refers to is from "gingerbread tree" but I cant find it on line or on her site. The link referred to in these comments in different. Ive tried making it using 1.5" strips and 2.5" strip but it still doesnt have the same effect. Ive watched the video countless times now and it would seem that Edyta has cut a thicker strip from one set than the other then put them together before making up the star. Ill try that next but I have to say Im very disappointed in FQS for not explaining this in an easily understandable way - and it would seem Im not the only one - especially as the beginner 8 point star was so thorough. Its a shame because I usually follow FQS and enjoy their videos but this one is a puzzler for me as a fairly novice quilter. If anyone has figured it out, Id love to know what you did! Thank you.

I found some instructions on pinterest that helped me with the cuts when I used the measurements on Pinterest with this video it helped me make it work. They used 1.5 in width and off set the strips about an inch like Edyta mentions. Hope this helps. hopefulhomemaker.com/2013/04/01/lone-star-block-tutorial/

Alison, I apologize we did not reply in a timely manner. For some reason, we did not get the notification that we had comments to answer on this video. We have looked into it and should not have the same problem going forward.

So if she is using the previous "Beginner 8 point star" video as a guide for this, how do you get 3 different sized strips then know how wide to cut the 45* angle like it was demonstrated on the beginner star block where the width of the strip determined how wide to make the cuts here... very confused
