How to sew a purse organiser/craft bag by Debbie Shore
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
What started off as an organiser turned into a handy craft bag! Lots of pockets including a zipped section will keep all your crafty goodies and notions in their place. I've used foam stabiliser but if you want a softer bag use fusible fleece.
Materials:
112cm x 100cm [44” x 36”] patterned outer fabric
112cm x 100cm [44” x 36”] plain lining fabric
55cm x 3cm [26” x 14”] single sided fusible foam [Bosal]
2 x 15cm [6”] lengths of elastic
30cm [12”] zip
Cut:
Outer bag:
For the front and back:
Two pieces of outer fabric each measuring 36cm x 32cm [14” x 12.5”]
Two pieces of foam stabiliser measuring the same
For the sides:
Two pieces of outer fabric measuring 10cm x 25cm [4” x 10”]
Two pieces of foam stabiliser measuring the same
Outer pockets:
Four pieces of outer fabric measuring 48cm x 18cm [19” x 7”]
Four pieces of lining fabric each measuring 15cm x 18cm [6” x 7”]
Lining:
For the front and back:
Two pieces of lining fabric each measuring 36cm x 33cm [14” x 13”]
For the sides:
Four pieces of lining fabric each measuring 6cm x 26.5cm [2.5” x 10.5”]
Dividing zipped pocket:
Four pieces of lining fabric each measuring 38cm x 19cm [15” x 7.5”]
Four pieces of fabric each measuring 3.5cm x 5cm [1.5” x 2”]
Patch pockets:
Four pieces of lining fabric each measuring 33cm x 15cm [14” x 6”]
Handles:
Two pieces of outer fabric each measuring 32cm x 10cm [12.5” x 4”]

Thankyou so so much, Debbie. I've been looking for ideas for making bags to carry dance shoes and other dance bits and bobs in. This is awesome! xxx
4/16/23: This is almost like a cargo pocket without all the fuss, which is exactly what I need for a bag I'm about to create. I was so frustrated with all my researching and video watching, and the last thing I didn't want to do was settle on something I didn't feel. Thank you so much, Debbie, for simplifying it for me. This is my way to go!

Hi from Australia Debbie. I watch all your tutorials and they are so easy to follow, your instructions are great. You handled the unwanted comments very well and it's a shame that people think it is ok to do that. 🤗🥰 My mum use to say if you have nothing nice to say don't say anything. Keep smiling you're great.
Thank you so much for this awesome tutorial. I am in the process of making this bag right now and it’s coming together beautifully Thank you Debbie

I remember doing the zippered, lined tote bag a while back (my first bag) and it looked great. It's been used daily by my daughter for her crochet gear since then and still looks a million dollars. Thank you for your help, guidance, and inspiration. Demystifying things which, at first glance, look overwhelming. I guess this will be my next bag project!

Amazing tutorial thanks for sharing
I've been searching for a tote bag pattern to make for a friend to take on her trips to chemo treatments. This one might just be perfect. So pretty. Btw, I find that flattening out the seams first and pressing them flat will better allow the seam to lie perfectly on the seam's edge. Just a fingernail press works as well when an iron won't fit. I am a beginner bag maker, but I always like to pass along tips to other beginners when I find one that works well for me. Thank you for all your videos and books.
Love makeing your bags. Have made several even diaper bags. keep doing this people love the ones I make and ask where a buy my bags. I tell them Debbie shore she makes it really easy. My granddaughters and great granddaughter r taking up sewing so passing ur ideals on down the line. Nancy Store from Ohio

Super . good job.
Lovely!!
Hello Debbie, Love your channel and also love this bag pattern. So glad you told us how you made your pressing area out of cardboard and foil - and fabric 😉. I think that would make a wonderful video where you show us how "tight" we would need to make the top of it, as well as your method of doing so. BTW, I don't have a FB account. 😻 I've often wanted to make my own pressing mat so I can use only the "cutting" mat side of the store - bought one I have at my sewing area without having to flip it over, back - and - forth, almost every time I ever use it. I do a lot of pressing and cutting when I'm at my machine 😻. . TYSM for sharing this video with us. Take care. 😻👍😍
😍😍😍 Thank you!

Hi Debbie, am new to sewing so am trying to watch every video so can get used to my singer sewing machine, it’s not a computerised machine because am new to sewing. But when I get used to sewing I will probably upgrade my machine in later this year. I really enjoy your tutorials thank you. X
You’re amazing
I watched you in making of that beautiful craft bag
I am loving that bag over your left shoulder. The one with blue on top, floral on the bottom with 2 strapes. I need to make a shopping baf like that! We just moved, and Az is beginning to charge for bags to put your purchased goods in. With the amount of shopping I do, I would go broke paying for 1 time use bags.

Thank you for posting all the measurements, it's very helpful. I'm a beginner but I'm feeling ambitious, so I'll give this a try 😀 I need a new work bag.
Brilliant 👏 I love the bird fabric too. I was wondering do you have a video or tutorial on how to make stand mixer covers? I have a Kitchen Aid tilt head and a Kitchen Aid loft and I wanted to make covers for them. Thank you for sharing 👍👍 Stay safe healthy and happy ❤️
Finally got everything to fit, and after breaking one needle and bending two others, all denim needles btw, I've finished it and it looks good. I decided to 'stitch in the ditch' round the top to hold the lining in place so used different colour thread top and bottom to make the stitches blend in. It was a lot of hard work so I need a lie down now ;-)
That's an awesome bag! You did such a good job of teaching and showing how to make it! I love that bird fabric, i'm going to check to see if you left links. I want to try it!
Thank you so much Debbie, I love this bag and thoroughly enjoyed the tutorial .You are amazing. X

Beautiful! Please make an essential oil roller-ball bottle wallet or pouch. I have to carry 6 bottles with me and they need to sit up straight and not hit together. TY!
Cute
Lovely bag I shd say. Can you do another tote bag with pockets and zipper closure. Tq
Debbie, you are so talented and you make everything look so easy. I’ve been following you for seven years and I love the color fabrics that you use also! I see two dolls in the background that look like homemade. Did you make those? If so would love some instruction videos on those. Also I would pay for a pattern.

@@debbieshore Thank you Debbie. I’ll take a look at their website. ❤️
Nope! This one has me beaten. Firstly I put the main pockets on the exterior height ways instead of length, didn’t realise that. Then the side pockets, I sewed one length ways and one height, so had to unpick the wrong one. That’s where I am just now, so I’ve decided I’m just going to make a plain lining to the size the bag is now and be done with it. I will try again though! 💪🏻👜
Trop trop bavarde !!!
