    My unit wouldn't spray out of the box as I thought. So bummed! I was trying to use exterior latex paint. My initial thought was that the paint was just too thick and I needed to water it down. Now after watching you and your technique for setting up, priming without the tip, holding the trigger, etc. I'm hopeful that my X5 will now work! It all makes perfect sense watching an experienced pro walking through this process! I wish I had seen this before and I've saved this video (and your clean up video) for future reference. Thanks much!

    @@DIYAllied No problem, all true! One quick question and I won't bug you again. Do you ever need to thin exterior paint using the X5 and a 515 tip? After watching your set up, priming etc, I doesn't appear that I do. I'm wondering if the reviews are just people, like me, who didn't prime it right and just quit and said the X5 is no good, etc.

    @@DIYAllied I'm painting a dozen or more shutters and an exterior front door shortly and so I went into my garage and tested out the set up process according to your YT video and it worked perfectly! The first time out of the box, I followed Graco's instructions and I couldn't get anything to work right. I am new to sprayers (beyond a Wagner handheld) and was certain the exterior paint was too thick for the X5 (as these paints had been for my Wagner). Your set up video, clean up video and how a spray pump works video are all MUST SEE videos for X5' users. I also look forward to the day (I think) that I too can change out a worn spray pump. Thanks for the video. I noticed at the 2:00 minute in the video you had some trouble getting it to prime. And you said sometimes you have to toggle the switch to get it to suck through. There is a button just below the on/off switch that will push 2 times just after your switch from spray to prime. This loosens the inlet valve ball and allows the paint to flow to the other hose with ease. So press that button 2 times after flipping the switch to primer and before you turn on the power. Thanks for the video.

    How long can I wait between coats before I have to re-prime? For example, can I spray a door, and then wait until I get another door sanded and then go right back to spraying? Or will I need to prime again? Thank you.

  • @DIYAllied

    The sooner the better but you can wait indefinitely if you can keep the surface clean in the meantime. We will often prime for several days before beginning a coat of paint. The bond between primer and paint will not be compromised by the time between applications. Hope that helps. Thanks for commenting.

    Hello Allied, I’m about to spray my first room this weekend and I had a question about priming the unit. All of the videos show people priming the unit with water first. I noticed you put the suction hose directly in the paint without priming with water. Did you use water the first time you used the unit or have you always primed straight from the paint bucket? I’m trying not to waste a lot of paint and wanted to see if that was an option on the first use. Thanks!

    Which paints to use on the magnum x5 that is the question. i haven't bought the unit as yet because I want to get one that will spray water base paints out of the can. After looking at the paints, some say you have to use a 517 tip and very few tell you that you can use the 515 tip (that comes with the magnum x5). I am also wondering at what temperatures you can spray paint under. I get extreme temperatures here where I live as well as winds. I contacted Graco and they said you can run the spray painter up to 115F. That wasn't what I wanted to know. Out here when it gets hot, it get so hot the paint sticks to the brush (if your using one) before you can get it on what you are painting. I need to know at what temperature with this spray gun work the best, the coldest to the hottest. Also about wind, I know you can't paint in 20mph winds but what is the highest acceptable wind you can paint in. Should I get the more expensive spay painter that used up to 0.017 tips or will the 0.015 tips work just fine. Lot of unanswered question needed to be answered before buying a spray painter. HELP !!! :o)

  • @DIYAllied

    @DIYAllied

    3 жыл бұрын

    I have sprayed almost every brand of latex/acrylic paint with a 515 tip. In fact I don't even own a 517. Temperature is an important factor and I don't spray anything with a surface temperature of above 90° or under 40. If you work in the shade on hot days and in the sun on very cold days you should be fine. I like to have less than 15 mph wind because you start to loose a lot of paint to over spray. I hope that helps.
