How to service the electric parking brake of a Land Rover Discovery 3 / LR3 / LR4

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

#Landrover #LandroverDiscovery #LR3
Here is our video how we serviced our electric parking brake module of our 2006 Land Rover Discovery 3. Instead of installing a complete new module, we serviced the old module using the Britpart repair kit. This method is not as expensive as a complete new module.
Removal and installation is not difficult but typically all the bolts are badly corroded and can result in a very stressfull repair. We show how we removed the corroded bolts. We also show how we assured to reinstall the brake cables in the correct position.
We hope this video is helpfull or maybe even entertaining. Please check out our other videos or even subscribe to our channel for weekly new content.
Thanks for watching.

That, right there, is the main reason I can't face the idea of trading in my D2 for a D3. To have half a chance of doing these kind of jobs easily, you need a D3 that's always been looked-after, and has no rusty nuts and bolts... which you can't rely on when you buy a 10 year old vehicle. Oh, how I wish JLR had designed the D3 as an evolution of the D2, perhaps based on a Defender 110 chassis. Much respect for taking these jobs on, rather than handing it over to a specialist.

Thanks. Such vehicles in Germany are like new after 10 years. There is hardly no salt and the roads have no bumps. They are dealer-maintained too up to 150t km. Then they are cheap to buy because they are expensive to drive for non-DIY folks.

The reason for the bad reputation is that people do not expect the maintenance cost of a high end vehicle. The cars are cheap and people think they are cheap to maintain too. In reality, these are 60+ t Euro vehicles and they are more expensive to maintain - unless you DIY them. We love them and we will buy an other one in 2021. Thanks!!!

Hello Zan, have that 3/8 hex socket ready and a few new M8 x 16 bolts. Spray them with penetrant the night before. Each cable has two M8 bolts and then there are the four bracket bolts in the back, holding the module. Also spray the heat shield nuts. Use a hammer and socket and hit them once prior opening them. Also use a inch socket if they spin through. We love Vancouver island. We took our Jeep Cherokee there about 20 jears ago. The landscape is endless. Victoria is a nice city with friendly people. Good memories.

Had to be recovered on a truck yesterday. The park brake was stuck on making a horrible noise, so I used the emergency release which didn’t release the brake and locked the gearbox in park 🤦. Got it home and stripped down, cables cut to release the park brake, park brake unit remove ( I used you video to follow, which was great. Mine has Adblue so a little extra work to remove the tank) I’ve opened the electric motor and gearbox to expect the little plastic cogs to be stripped and everything is OK??? Not sure what has caused it, so a full rear brake rebuild and new cogs on order. Your video was excellent 👍

Fantastic comedy act with some fun and useful tips thrown in 👍🏻 A bigger pit would be useful to 🤣 You both do make this look simple and understandable 😀 If people maintained their vehicles better they wouldn’t have half the issues. If you put a vehicle in a shop no way they’d pay the attention to detail as you two do 🤣 I spent a lot of time drive lorries in Germany 🇩🇪 to the Siemens factoring Erlangen. The TÜV inspector also used the electric hand brake this way. He had an electronic diagnostic tool which measured the vehicle response. The the manual describes the hand brake switch as a emergency brake as well. I am not sure if the electric brake actuator is actually used when doing this while driving... Somethin I need to look into.

Christian, the e-brake and brakes in general have. been the greatest annoyance and expense with our LR. I wish you had gone slower and with more light in the critical final assembly steps. Very glad to view your video nevertheless. With the 30K I do each year, with salt from road...it should be announced loud and clear to open the brake system up to clean and lube before parking for the winter rest...or in spring if you do run through winter... You are fortunate to have a well configured garage!...and moderate winters to work in. PS - you didn’t do the e-brake series of secret switch moves and 10 stop “setting” of the e-pads!...or did I miss that ...?
