Welcome to the zero faults series and the Project Discovery overland build series. Before I start adding mods like roof rack, rock sliders, lights and so on, I want to reset the car and get all faults cleared away. And first of is a full brake replacement starting with front brake discs an pads in full details.
There are 2 major and some minor faults with the car at this point. The major ones are the EPB/handbrake module that has jammed on and the EGR-valves not closing. These are throwing an error and need to be fixed togheter with new brakes discs and pads all around before the MOT in June. About two months from this point in time.
This reset series will end up in the EGR-replacement video and concluding with a MOT test day video.

Hehe, some springs will really test you on a car. The parking brake spring is definitely one of those. We have been having steady cold here now for a month, sitting around the -10ºC mark, 14ºF, so looking forward to a bit warmer weather and a bit more snow. Best of luck with the right one and have a good weekend! 😊

Nice video, not sure I would use Anti seize AND thread lock on the same bolt through! That small bolt only stops the disc falling on your toes - just a dab of anti-seize is all it needs for easier future brake jobs.

I wasn't sure why when I saw your comment, but I have now checked and I wasn't thinking too hard on m self and was following the Bodsay's brake bible at this point. I totally agree with you and see no point to add thread lock here. Anti seize for sure. Thanks for pointing it out and not sure what the actual LR manual seis about this. 👍 Simon

Nice job Simon. I did mine a few months ago so I know the struggle with regards to getting the shoes over the bar and getting the clips over the pins with only one pair of hands! 😂 Well done my friend, it's coming along nicely 😊👍 One thing I would have done is sprayed the shoes with brake cleaner too, they looked like they might have picked up some grease. I know mine did after wrestling them in and the back plate contacts having copper grease on them, it's a job not to get it on the friction material!

Hey and thanks. Yeah definitely a personal victory wrestling the last shoe into place. 😂 And a great tip to clean the shoes, I didn’t even think of it. Maybe lucky so I got friction right away when testing. But I will definitely do it next time, would have been such a bummer if they just kept on slipping after all that work. 😅😅

Hey, the EPB module should be set in service mode. This will release the tension on the wires that goes out to the brake shoes. If you google "bodsys brake bible" you can see a detailed reading on this whole thing. 😉

Hi good video, thanks for up loading! I am rebuilding my neighbours handbrake on a range rover sport..the car was sabotaged and had the complete rear wheel fall off and the handbrake assembly fell out in the road, took ages to find a good diagram and the part number for the lower handbrake plate. I'm curious as to what the yellow cable tie on the lower plate is used for? the kit i have ordered comes with one included

Hey and thank you! It’s for when your mounting the plate with the spring on, to make it easier to put on as it’s gets a bit in the way when you need to pull the shoe over the plate. Just remember to cut it of afterwards. 😊

Finally got parking brake installed Correctly I am mechanical minded person and have installed parking brakes on other vehicles bit land rover can be difficult if you don't know and understand the correct process, if I had a you tube channel I would show how the parts go together before installing them , this is most important because thousands of diy people trying to save money without using a shop , I got very frustrated and had to go do something else to take my mind off of it , it was the correct position of the flat plate with zip tie and the adjustment screw was the issue the adjustment screw need to be flush so you can get the flat plate installed so you can get the rotor back on and also lining up the adjustment screw and screw that holds plate in correct location by lifting both tires off ground I learn this by watching lr time doing parking brake job this was very frustrating to me it's the little details are the most important

Great feedback James and glad you got it sorted in the end. 👍 Showing it all how it goes together in the beginning in the video is smart and will take that into account if I make more diy videos in the future. 👍 Some things, when you know it, you take for granted that people understand and I do my best with multiple camera angles to show as much details as I can. 😊 There is also the battle between making it entertaining for some and learning for others. See the discussion here: www.youtube.com/@LandRoverDrive/community and feel free to add your thoughts. 👍 Good that you write the details and your problems in a comment so others can read and learn. What's make this channel great and the more we share the more we can learn. Thanks again James. Best, Simon.

Not sure if it matters, but looks like you put the adjuster in the other way around. The turning wheel should be on the left, not on the right. This confused me a bit when I saw how you were turning the wheel to adjust the tightness of the shoes.

@@LandRoverDrive I don't think it's the camera angle. Just keep in mind that because you flipped the direction of the adjuster, in the future if you need to adjust the parking brake you should turn the wheel in the opposite direction of what the book says. E.g. by the book turning the adjuster wheel towards the center of the car wheel to push the brake shoes tighter against the brake disc, in your case you should turn the opposite way for the same purpose.

@@adv_addict Thanks, it’s noted. I usually release the top tensioner first, as prescribed, and then tighten it up the lower tensioner completely, before unwinding it again, 8 times was it 🤔, during service, so I just find the way it tightens because I done really remember the way. 😊 How often do you retighten yours? I try to do mine once a year, either during spring or autumn, when I change from winter to summer tires.

@@LandRoverDrive It's my first time doing this actually, so I found your video very helpful. Unfortunately, this didn't fix my EPB problem. The parking brake can engage fine every time (even after pulling the manual release cable), but when I press the Parking brake button down to release it doesn't do anything (no grinding noise), if I hold the button down for several seconds then a warning "Parking Brake Fault" comes on. The fault goes away if I turn the car off and back on. There is no persistent code. Based on that symptom, I don't think my EPB module is jammed but there might be actually an electronic issue with the module... I might have to replace the whole module unit.
