How to sand and buff your clear

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I need to fix the clearcoat for the freshly painted car. There is dust and fluff all over the roof. It will need a sand and a buff.

Another great video, Dave. The only thing I'm not clear on is why buffing should start after using 3000 grit. Why not sand with 5000 before buffing, or 5000 and then 7000? Then you could skip the compound stage and go straight to the polish. Would that work just as well?

As a finish color, over sanded primer, has anyone sprayed gloss hammered black for two light coats, and finished it with two medium coats of satin dark or navy blue? I want to have the hammered texture, but not so shiney, and I can't find hammered blue shades either. So I thought this would do. Both colors would be Rust-Oleum 2x brand laquer paints. I'd apply each coat about 20 to 25 minutes apart in the shade of an open carport so each layer wouldn't be wet, but just slightly tacky to surface feel dry.

I use resin clear coat on things like shower tiles, countertops. And to buff it, I use like to start with 600,800 and then 1500 and then wool buff with buffing compound, and then finishing pad I use polish. I buff with the Dewalt buffing machine at 1000 ram and it comes out good.

Wow, great job! I have one question--what should I do if dust gets in the color coat before I apply the clear coat? For example, I am currently painting a guitar with metallic gold Nitrocellulose Lacquer, and I am planning to finish with a clear nitrocellulose lacquer. Some dust got into the gold while I was spraying it, and I fear sanding it because it alters the appearance of the gold in the sanded areas. So, do you have any advice for getting the dust particles out before I clear coat?
