    3 more months until I can hit the parks. I'm beginning to hate winter. Though, for Ohio, we've had an unusually light snowfall this year, it's been more rainy than showy. LOL However, I did make a little girl's dream come true. "Tis the season of skates! My youngest finally got her first real pair (her feet have officially stopped growing)....took her old ones to the rink today...spotted a girl on the same size rentals, my youngest, oldest at home and I went to talk to her mom...we all ended up crying. Her mom was actually looking at Target and other places (couldn't afford rink prices)...because...her daughter wanted them for her birthday...on Christmas Eve! :) I asked her to promise that as long as the skates were still in good condition once her feet got too big, that she'd pass them along to another little girl who needs them. It's been a tradition since mine were little to do this. No, they were not the BEST skates in the world...worn a lot, loved very much...but they were still rolling and in otherwise proper working order. It kind of makes me sad that this will probably be the last pair we'll be able to donate since all of my girls - and my sons' - feet have stopped growing and (so far) all but one now has their own "adult" skates (I've got 3 pairs, the one without her own can wear mine, so we switch back and forth)...but HOPEFULLY she'll be getting a new pair this season, too...maybe...if we can afford it. Hers might have to wait until tax time, though. She's very anxious to get the Blue Sky Beach Bunnies (her favorite color)...I just hope we don't have to wait another 2 months but...time will tell.

    @@gabrielle287 :) Like I said, it's just been kind of a tradition. My son (oldest, only boy) was a bit older when we first started hitting the rink, so he's only given away 2 pair, my 2nd born (1st of 4 girls)- 4 pair, 3rd born - 2 pair (sadly, her feet grew really slowly. LOL), 4th born has given away 5 pair, and this is the 6th pair that my youngest has given away (started skating when she was 2, she's now 14)...so....19 pairs total. Both of my rinks have a "selling special" - if you order new skates, you get a whole 2% off if you turn your skates in to sell. I just don't feel that's right. I mean...2% isn't that big of a deal...so why not give them away instead? I just look for that one little girl (or boy, when my son was younger, of course) who looks like they're having the most fun at the rink. I've always felt it's easier to learn on your own - properly adjusted - skates versus those ghastly rentals that are never set exactly the same way. My youngest did want to keep hers "for outdoors" (I told her we'd get her outdoor wheels later for her new ones)....but when we got home, even she said she was happy she decided to give them away and ended up crying again because she was happy that she made someone else so happy! :) I guess...being a skater myself...for me, it's about sharing that love of skating as long as possible. Did all of those 19 pairs of skates over the years get passed down "again"? Who knows. But we do what we can to (hopefully) keep that love going. Plus, it is kind of a great feeling to see those kids' eyes light up when presented with their very own "new" skates.

    Don't give up! It just takes some of us a little longer to learn new skills than others. It took me a YEAR to learn to do a toe-stop stall. (My friends learned in just a couple days.) But if you keep on trying, eventually you'll get better. If I can get better at skating (I'm hella old), then so can you! ; )

I have a couple pairs of skates now but my favorites are my "Green Monster Antik Ar1's' and i run the old school Powerdyne Rival plate because it feels really stable on each push... But I'm thinking of maybe up-grading the powerdyne Reactor Neo or the Pro... Couldn't tell which one you roll on... Any thought's on which one is a good mix for ramp and urban skate...

    Once again, a new video came along at just the right time for me! I'd been wondering if rolling in or dropping in on an angle was possible for quad skaters. I'd seen kids do it on bikes and inline skates, but not on skateboards or quads. I'd just assumed the side-by-side wheel setup made it not safe to do. Gonna try it on a bank first, and then graduate to a half-pipe. I think this might help me with my momentum when it comes to getting out on the other side, because I've been struggling with that. (PS: I would kill for a mini-ramp like that one in my backyard!)

    Hey I’ve got a question about my new skates, so I just got a new pair of beach bunny moxi skates for Christmas (super hapoy) And because they are leather would it take longer for them to wear into my foot, and the tounge of the skate keeps slowing sliding down and it hurts my toes, will that stop once the skate has to used to my foot?

  • @juliepurpleskater1736

    @juliepurpleskater1736

    5 жыл бұрын

    I have a pair of leather skates that had the same problem with the tongue sliding around sideways. I made my own lace-stabilizers on the tongue by making two short, parallel cuts in the tongue with an X-acto knife. (A razor blade with a handle on it.) You can also use a regular razor blade if you're careful not to cut yourself. The cuts are about 1 to 1.5 cm long, and about 1 to 1.5 cm apart... enough for both laces to fit through. It works kind of like the slit or loop you often see on running-shoe tongues. Just thread the laces through in each direction, and continue lacing as usual. Depending on the thickness of the tongue, it may fix the problem 100%, or it may be less effective, but it WILL help keep them in place better than they would be without stabilizer slits for the laces.

    I'm thinking about commuting with roller skates, what kind of skate should i get? Recently I'm in love with the ones with heels and cute colors, but i'm not sure if that type is safe and durable enough for commuting

    Hey Kin... I think a skate with good ankle support with high uppers is best. A high heel is good too just to keep your weight forward. 78A wheels will make most trips enjoyable also... Moxi's are great so to Antik but they are generally expensive

    It's like you're just skipping over the coping, like how you would hop over a shallow bump but not a full jump.
