How to Reuse An Old HardDisk? Is SSD Better Than HardDisk? The Best Way to Get Data from Old Device

Ғылым және технология

Hello Charles from AmericanLife365. In this video, I will talk about computer storage and how to reuse our old hard disk.
Recently I bought a new laptop. I find that the market is changing rapidly. Most laptops on the market do not have hard drives, only SSDs. As we all know, hard drives have been used for a long time. The hard disk works like an old gramophone. It uses magnetism to remember data. It has a pair of read heads and a spinnng disk driven by a motor. It relies on the reading head to move around to find the data on the board. This is mechanical movement and takes time. But it is reliable. Even if part of the record is damaged, the rest of the record can still be read because its magnetic properties in the good area of the disk remain unchanged. So hard drive is slow but reliable. I have a video about data recovery DIY that demonstrates how simple and easy to recover data from a dead disk. On the other hand, hard disk relies on a spinning disk driven by a motor, which uses more electricity. Therefore, traditional hard drives require more power. The cost of using hard drives is higher.
SSD (Solid State Drive) is an integrated circuit composed of gate floating transistors. Its name is self-explanatory. Solid state means there is no mechanical movement involved. It's all about whether there are electrons at the transistor level. Compared with the mechanical spinning and the movement of the read head, the electric speed is absolutely an advantage in the speed of reading data. However, if the transistors in the circuit age or deteriorate, the circuit may be damaged. It is difficult to recover data without special equipment. In terms of fault tolerance, traditional hard drive is superior in reliability. Since SSD is composed of circuits, SSD is expensive and has limited capacity.
The question now is why the computer industry has shifted its direction from a single hard drive to an SSD in storage. In my opinion, the computer industry wants people to use cost-based Claud services. Claude service. The Cloud service does bring the benefits of data mobility and reliability at the expense of our privacy.
As individuals, the best practice we can do is to reuse your old hard drive. Important private data is stored on your own external hard drive. If you have replaced your computer, remove the old hard drive from the old computer and use it as an external hard drive. Don't throw it away, use it as external data storage. My old hard drive has a capacity of 1 Tera byte, which is equivalent to 2 expensive SSDs. How to do it? so easy. Let me show it to you now.
