HOW TO RESTORE/FIT A FULL WIDTH HZ WAGON CHROME BUMPER BAR ON A HOLDEN WB UTE WITH SIMPLE TOOLS.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This episode i restore an old faded chrome bumper bar to it's former glory all with simple materials and tools in my shed. I also fit the full width bumper bar to the Holden wb ute which was never specced from factory. This required some fabrication and a lot of measuring. The results were all worth it though!

    Mate the advice on the bumperette removal is brilliant. Went to Remove them off my hx ute tonight and wondered how in god's name I'd get to the nuts inside the bumper... Thanks for sharing the details on your build! You have a new Subscriber 🤘

    Hay mate I remember back in the 90’s there was a mob in a place called Lonsdale south of Adelaide that sold brackets specifically to bolt the wagon/sedan bumper on a Ute

    The original wagon bumper bracket is also used as the jacking point. That’s what the slots are on the bottom. A statesman bumper is a tighter fit to the body or we use to shorten them to tuck them in. Looking good.

    Yeah ok interesting, I wasn't aware the wb statesman was a better fit, dam, oh well it still looks like a decent fit. I think the Statesman bump strips put me off as they were too thick for my side moulds which won't be Kingswood size. Cheers

    That chrome came up a treat. I'm also fitting a full rear bar but will probably have a crack at tucking it in by shortening it. I'm also going to see if I can fabricate or modify the hinges so they aren't seen at all. Probably won't succeed. 😆 Keep going mate.

  • @BarnesysBuilds

    Yeah I think tucking it in will be pretty easy if you just take 30mm out from centre. I was just trying to avoid rechroming to save money so left it as is. It's actually not that bad and matches the front. Yeah I'm not happy with the single bolt method but it's a start, I think the end side bracket is the way I will go, much easier to fashion up a extension bracket, well in my mind at least!

    Good work, it looks great. I'm curious about people who have shortened them for a tighter fit. I can only assume they cut them in half taking out an inch for example and then push them together. In an ideal world they would weld and re-chrome or do they look perfectly ok just being in two separate halves?

  • @BarnesysBuilds

    @BarnesysBuilds

    Жыл бұрын

    Yeah they usually take 30mm or so out from centre point and re-weld together again then you would have to re chrome again due to weld and grinding marks. Most people who do that colour match the bumpers to get around that issue. There is a fibreglass place that makes replicas of this bumper already shortened and ready to go however same chrome issue applies as they are black out of the factory.

    I’ve got my Barnesy’s Builds hoodie and cap here in Central Oklahoma. Proud to have it and wear it. Nice work on that bumper. You fit it up well. That Ute is one nice looking vehicle. I’m curious what the term Ute is associated with in Australia. Here is the U.S. The Ute Indian is a Indigenous-Native tribe.

    Ute is short or Aussie slang for Utility

  • @BarnesysBuilds

    @BarnesysBuilds

    Hey Hugh, that's pretty cool to be honest to hear that you have a hat in Oklahoma! I've always like that area of the U.S. Tornado country! So Ute is Aussie slang for utility vehicle. The first full coupe Ute was a Ford actually and was designed for the Australian market to cart hay and livestock but also still look like a car that you can go to church on Sunday with. The difference between the American pickup and the Aussie ute was the coupe design meant the body and the tray were moulded as one continuous piece where as the pickups had a separate tray. Pretty interesting. Thanks 👍

  • @BarnesysBuilds

    The rubbers actually aren't that hard to replace, the bolts came off easily and the arrow plugs would be easy to push in with some silicon.i would be keen to see the hinges, must be HQ, I think they were higher.

    The lip under the tailgate is cut off right across that's how they are done getting the bar up flush without cutting it ,the hidges don't interfere with it .

  • @BarnesysBuilds

    @BarnesysBuilds

    Жыл бұрын

    Yeah I didn't want to cut the lip as I've already sprayed the body. I also needed more space even after I cleared the lip hence why I cut the hinge gaps, I don't see any other way unless you have HQ hinges which sit higher. WB hinges it's not possible without cutting recesses if you want to have it hard up against the taillight lip.
