Thank you so much for this video. I was trying to repurpose an old AirTag that had a dead battery. The mistake I made was to remove it from my spouse’s phone before replacing the battery. After replacing the battery, it wouldn’t recognize on either of our phones as a new AirTag. After following the factory reset process however, I was able to Associate it with my phone as if it was a new AirTag. You saved my butt.

I was trying to do this. I found the instructions on the Apple support site but it wasn't clear that you had to reset it 5 times and wait for the different sound to confirm. Very useful thanks.

Excellent! Small tip, do it until you hear the tone change. Might be more than 5 times if you didn't hold the battery in long enough.

Oh my god, THANK YOU SO MUCH. I tried everything else, and it was literally just that I didn’t hold the battery in a few extra seconds each time for the reset. Thank you!!!

No matter how long I hold it in for it doesn’t chirp. 3 separate air tags with dead batteries, simply trying to replace, same issue. Brand new batteries with 3.24V reading on the multimeter, holding them in at 5, 10, 20 sec and longer intervals with no response. FindMy app doesn’t respond either.

@@jarredstumberg I did it about 12-15 times for less than 1 sec each time and it finally played a different tone

A very good video. Thank you for having it. The only thing with my AirTag to reset it. It actually took eight goes are taking the battery at each time so if you get to 5 just continue a few more times and it should take.
