Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Here I show you how to change the timing chain on a 1985 Yamaha Moto 4 200. I show you how I got the flywheel off, the timing chain out, and how to put it back together and set the timing chain adjuster!

thanks, ive just replaced the timing chain on my tw200 (its the same engine) I didn' t remove the top sprocket though, just sort of derailed the chain off of it after removing the tensioner it worked fine, I put the new chain back on the same way👍

I use old head bolts to pull fly wheel. They're way too long but if you shim with spare handlebar bushing they're perfect. Or either 3 similar deep well ⅜ drive sockets

There is also a timing mark on the crank behind the washer that you left on

Thanks heaps. I have a 46 year old Yamaha that I got in pieces, this made me confident that I have done it correctly. Just wondering if the oil chamber on timing chain needs to be filled separately through the hole that you se the top centre mark?

No I wouldn’t think so. The bottom of the case is pretty much wide open so the oil will go right in there. I’m glad this helped!

How do you know when/if the timing chain needs to be replaced? I have adjusted it according to the manual and it still makes lots of noise. Appears to be at the max adjustment so I assume it is very stretched. Figured i'd ask and see if you can explain why you decided to change yours.

I would say excessive noise would be a good indication. On this wheeler I had already done valves, a cam, and a new piston and rings and I knew all of that was right but it still wasn’t running right. So the timing chain was the last thing. I’m not saying you need to change all of those first. I bought this wheeler not running with a burnt cam in it already so I had to change those. But when I had my top end off I noticed that the cam chain had a lot of side play. With the cylinder off I held the chain straight up and then tried to see how far it would bend if I pulled it towards me (the way it’s not supposed to bend) and if it makes a kind of C shape then you kinda know. It’s an experience thing. Even a new chain will move that way some. Hope this helps

So are the holes on the flywheel to put the puller bolts in metric? Are the bolts that came in that harbor freight kit metric? I would have guessed their imperial?

The kit definitely has a mix of both in it but I’m not sure what the thread size actually is.

So the flywheel is located on the key way on the shaft?
