How to replace the line on a Ryobi One+ 18v Line Trimmer

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

You can buy brand new, spools with line already wound, but it is significantly cheaper to wind your own line. It is easy to do but can also be a bit frustrating at times. So in this video, I run through the process of how to replace the line on a Ryobi One+ 18v Line Trimmer by putting new line on an existing spool. Hope it helps!
There are a bunch of non-genuine pre-wound spool replacement options that are cheaper than the genuine spools and are more convenient than winding your own spool.

I find that doing this once, by trial and error, until I find the optimal length, I can then strip the line back off and measure it. Once I have the length, I then cut half a dozen pieces to that length and then roll them back onto the bulk spool. In the future, when the trimmer runs out of line, I just pull off one of the pre-cut pieces and wind it onto the empty spool without having to deal with unspooling it from one reel as I spool it onto the other reel. Requires less dexterity and lays onto the trimmer reel with fewer kinks to sort out. When I pull off the last pre-cut line, I use it to measure some more. It is also helpful to mark the length on a piece of tape on the trimmer shaft, just in case.

Good tip - care to share that "optimal length"? Is it 4 meters (13 feet)?

@@markkraus8674 It will vary, that's why I said that I find it by trial and error first. Start wrapping it around your spool until you get the amount that winds on easily, then pull it off and measure it. Now you can just make a bunch of them that long and have them ready when you need them. I usually stick one in my packet while I'm trimming so when my trimmer runs out in the middle of the job I can respool it right there on the spot. Sorry I didn't make that clear.

Thank you for this... But I did exactly what you said to do and it unraveled as soon as I started using it. The replacement line I have is "universal" and seems quite thick -- maybe this is the issue, though it doesn't make sense

Thanks Matt. I followed your instruction to the letter several times using the original Ryobi line however once I start to use the trimmer it cuts for a few seconds or so then the line snaps off where the line comes out of the head. Could this be a tension problem or is it some other problem that is causing this to happen?

Not very good camera work....moving too fast and not capturing the spool in much of the video.
