How to Replace Sway Bar Links 99-04 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

If you have clucking noise when going over the uneven ground it most likely is the sway bar links. Work was performed on a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. This will be a typical install for all 99-04 Grand Cherokee's.

    You could try polyurethane bushes here - roll bar/ sway bar is the one suspension part on a WJ I would put poly bushes onto - did that on my old WJ and really tightened things up without any harshness, so my current one is about to get the same treatment!

    As usual, another great video. Martin, does your WJ rub the tires after lowering it, during any part of driving it? I want to do this, but dont want to deal with tire rubbing. I have those same wheels and tires. I had them on my 1st WJ, never had issues because it was stock height. Thanks.

    Hi Martin, two questions 1. I want to replace my sway bar links. Everytime i drive or hit a bump i hear a constant squeak come from there and a clunky noise everytime i hit a bump. Do i need to raise it in any kind of way? Also do I have to remove the tire as well? Am i able to remove and install new sway bar links withe the wheels touching the ground? Also how do i know if i need to replace the bushing? 2.Where is this video shot. The mountain in the background looks great

    Hey Martin, I was trying to do a suspension overhaul on my Jeep 2004 wj, 4.7 special edition. I basically took out the entire front suspension all at once and started replacing them one by one. But now I’m having a hard time with the track bar and upper control arm. Once I installed the track bar (after a lot of struggle), the passenger side upper control arm now rubs against the catalytic converter. Is there a proper sequence to put back everything? Please help me, thanks!

    With your Jeep being lowered, shouldn’t you have modified the length of the sway bar end links to compensate for the lowered ride height? I’m thinking they should be an inch shorter than stock to compensate for the ride height.

    Will you still be willing to answer our WJ questions? I wanted to ask, since I'm thinking of going with 1 inch lowering springs...when you went with 20 inch rims, did you end up with a larger total outside diameter on your tire/wheel than stock? Because it closed up your fender/tire gap pretty nicely. I would be staying with stock wheel/tire for a while anyway (rwd Laredo).

  • @martinbuilt

    @martinbuilt

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes the 20 inch wheels and tires are slightly larger than the stock tires by .62 inches taller. The stock tires be in 235/ 65 x17 and the tires with the twenties are a 245/50×20

  • @martinbuilt

    @martinbuilt

    4 жыл бұрын

    It was actually somewhat hard to see but the bushings were worn and the free play from the bushings is what caused the clunking

    All the dash lights come on and security key module acts up. I have changed the SKM in the past. Turn signal left turn often doesn’t work. Someone mentioned the clock spring as one problem. Their have been tons of posting regarding this issue and also references to wiring boot in the drivers door allowing the wires to be exposed. JT

    The only time the links are under pressure is when the tires are on uneven ground or one tire is elevated.
