Saw a guy put zip ties through the chain and sprocket to hold in place
Grease mate, not enough!
The chain tension on f800gs must be adjusted with the bike on the side stand, not on the central stand
Is there a reason for this?

Rather crude way to break chain, especially on a BMW! Suggest chain breaker tool as illustrated here kzread.info/dash/bejne/nX95sdyMYMK0cdo.html
No lube? oil? grease?
they come with chain lube. LOTS OF IT
