The heating element in an electric dryer generates the dryer's heat-it's one of the first parts to check if the air in the dryer doesn't get warm. Inspect the heating element for damage to the heating coil. If the heating element is damaged, replace it with a manufacturer-approved replacement part. Before you begin, wear work gloves to protect your hands. Unplug the dryer. Remove the screws from the back panel. Remove the back panel from the dryer and set it aside. Disconnect the wires, using slot screwdriver to pry the wires off the spades if necessary. Remove the mounting screws from the heating element using a 1/4" nut driver and pull it off of the heater box. Remove the high-limit thermostat from the existing heating element and install it on the new heating element. Position the new heating element on the heater box and line up the mounting screw holes. Insert the mounting screws and tighten them firmly. Properly connect the wires to the new heating element. Warning: For safety and to avoid damage to the new element, the wires must be properly connected. Position the back panel on the back of the dryer. Line up the mounting screw holes. Insert the mounting screws and tighten them firmly. Plug the dryer into the wall outlet.

No. You'll need to unplug the dryer and lift the top panel to access the heating element in that model of Maytag dryer. To lift the top panel, release the clips that lock the top of the dryer in place, push a putty knife under the lid near the left and right edges of the front of the dryer. Lift the top and prop it securely against the wall behind the dryer. The heating element is behind the drum in the top left corner of the cabinet. Unplug the wires from the heating element. Remove the mounting screw that holds the high limit thermostat on the top of the bulkhead. Pull the high limit thermostat and bracket out of the way and let them hang by the wires attached to the high limit thermostat. Remove the screw located below and to the left of the ceramic heating element terminal block. That screw secures the right side of the element assembly mounting bracket to the heater housing. Lift up on the right side of the heater assembly, tip it slightly forward then work the rod end of the bracket out of the housing location hole. Pull the heater assembly out. Install the new heater assembly and reassemble the dryer in reverse order. We hope this information helps. If you need further assistance, let us know.

We suspect that you have a different Maytag dryer than the one shown in the video. Use these steps to replace the element coil for a common Maytag heating element: Unplug the dryer and remove the heating element assembly. Remove the coil ends and pull the element coil out of the insulator rings. Thread the new coil through the insulator rings and attach the coil ends to the connections in the element assembly. If you need more help, let us know the model number of your Maytag dryer.
