I wish I would have known about this tool before. I spent $400 to replace the top hinge and the door is now sagging again. I ordered this tool and going to fix it myself. Thanks for the video.

I've used this tool and it's not working for me. Unless I'm not opening the door wide enough. My hinges are so wacked that this tool does not slide in easily. I have to use hammer and a piece of wood to bang it in and out.

Anyone else notice how the for went from being just a little better to being totally fixed in the next part? 🤔

Where to buy? That would come in handier than the crescent wrench technique. The wrench scratches the hinges...I bet this tool wont, plus it's so quick.

Some people saying "Just shim the hinge!" Umm... nope! Th top of the door it too tight and hits the frame. If you put any shims behind the hinge, that will push the door over even more and make it hit worse! If you just wanted to even up the gap, you could shim the BOTTOM hinge to kick that out, but now both top AND bottom will be hitting the frame. Only option here is to pull the top hing back and this Doctor is a great way to do it. And the arm linkage on the closer has been set up wrong.

Place the shims along the edge opposite the barrel and the door will move towards the hinge side as opposed to the latch side

Thanks for your feedback, Ed. Like we said in the comment below, you can shim the door to fix this problem as well, however, the Hinge Doctor does so in seconds, making it an ideal toolkit for locations that have many doors that have this problem.

I thought on wooden doors you had to remove the hinge because there is a risk of pulling the screws out of the door.

Hi Kyle, thanks for your comment. As with anything if it is overdone it can cause damage, that is why it is recommended to adjust the hinges a small amount and check what was done to see if it is adjusted to where it needs to be, or if it needs to be adjusted more. If the instructions are followed and the door or if using a wrenched isn’t forced too much there should not be a risk of damage to the door, hinge or screws. I hope that helps! Feel free to give us a call if you have any additional questions. 800-442-6622 M-F 7:30AM-5:00PM EST.

    why not shim the door

Connor, the Hinge Doctor actually bends the hinge back into place, which fixes the hinge. Shimming it wouldn't be the right way to assess the issue, as there is nothing wrong with the door, only the hinge.

Yes, If you shim the door it will draw the door back just like the Hinge Doctor. The difference is that using the Hinge Doctor is the easier and quicker option. As you see in the video, the Hinge Doctor enables you to adjust the door literally in seconds.

Fix the door closer first!!!!!!! There are VERY few people that understand the "total door opening". Sometimes especialy with steelcraft doors which are totally junk. They do not weld there doors they use epoxy to adhere the 2 door skins together, no welds. The hinge pads are spot welded and you can always see they will fail before installing the door. The #1 weakest commercial door in the industry!!!!!! Deansteel, Curries, Ceco and many others are WAY better
