How to Repair Curb Rash on Wheels Black Rim

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video, I use a Dremel with a 120 Grit Sanding Band, black touch up paint, 3000 grit sandpaper, and a rotary polisher to improve the finish of my curb rashed wheels. If you have any questions, please let me know in the comments!

Does this work on alloy wheels?

I'm giving this a try based on your great video. One question though, are you making the 3000 grit sanding paper wet?

Yes. Always sand 600 grit or finer wet. The finer papers (600 and up) will clog much faster, making the sandpaper useless. Using water provides a medium for removing excess material, keeping the sandpaper clean. Wet sanding will maximize effectiveness of the sandpaper

@@nicbowen38 Thanks Nic. Yeah, I figured that much in the meantime but thanks for confirming it. Makes sense now that you explain the reason for it. Thanks for the instruction video btw. My fix turned out pretty good. Thankfully, the curb rash damage was on less fancy winter tire rims vs. my fancy rims ;)

Did you use clear coat at all? Or was it not necessary?

He did not, but clear would help it last longer. Some primer / adhesion promotor probably would have been ideal too since he painted straight on the metal, or even better some bondo glazing putty before sanding step to avoid having to take so much material off. Not knocking his work though, not how I'd have done it but we all have different priorities.

I personally would not be happy with that. While doing it at all , why not do a better job

Is there a way to find the black paint that matches my rims exactly? Like thru a color code or something on my 2016 Chevy?
