A quick hand job with some all in one polish 😁. Nice wheels those and the Honda logo is lined up straight with the tyre valve perfectly.
I know those rim protector things might have saved this but I don’t like them 😬

A Hyundai I30n caught my eye in a car park. Weird markings on a front wing. I then realised that the rear had a bright red rim protector and the front was missing. I can only assume that the damage that I saw was caused by a flailing rim protector😢 The damage to the wing would cost more than the wheel… I didn’t notice whether the wheel was damaged too.

Looks like slightly wider tyres may have helped maybe 5 or 10mm wider or is that the JDM Style with the slight stretch look?
I almost cried at your intro...I feel your pain man!🫣 Another great upload though, thanks again mate!

Ooof I felt for you when you caught the rim like that, very skilful repair and a great way to share that information. I liked the ‘close call’ montage at the end although I’m getting the impression that’s representative of a typical daily drive wherever you live 😮😂
"Poverty-spec elbow grease in the armoury." This made me laugh!
What a great result, you have the patience of a saint taking the time to refine at each stage, thank you for sharing

Well it depends how bad these curb-rashes are and what type of rims.. in this case it did work out Definitely if you want to spare some money.. otherwise in case of two tone, Dymond-cut rims or 2/3 piece rims the process is much more expensive needs CNC rims rectify and that means remove tires, remove valves and the calibration weights from inside the barrel of each rim, then sand-blast, repaint, CNC cut each rim and after that apply clear coat, but is not over because ship all to tire shop to add new valves, put back tires and recalibration..
It certainly looks good, for a budget repair it’s more than acceptable, especially on a daily driven car, well done, and thank you for the tutorial 😊.
Loved the dashcam footage and commentary at the end haha
Been there done that but never repaired mine as well as yours, learnt some good facts from this cheers.
I really like the narration on you videos. Instead of free-styling what needs to be said during filming and battling the external noises from the surrounding environment, you decided to prepare and record all the narration aside. All of that makes your videos so much enjoyable with clearly presented information. Thank you
Thanks for the video, this gave me the confidence to go out in the garage and fix my wheel.
Never be able to tell the difference unless very very closely inspected, good job El Guru 🙌🏻👏🏻
Really excellent work there. I know the feeling there when you kurb the wheel. Here in London kurbs are the worst. Accidentally clipped a kurb when turning right at a junction as cars in the left lane would vere to me due to the road straight on being at a angle. Happy my current wheels i bought were already refurbed before i bought them
Great job as per usual
Thanks for the video!
That was painful to watch. I should think most of us have been there at some time. Can't let your guard down for a second. A very passable repair though, even if you were planning to get it refurbed sometime. Always a pleasure to watch you in action.
A superb result! Chapeau 👏
Omg . How relaxing was that . Almost like watching David Attenborough on one of his programmes
been there a few times its gut wrenching that scrape noise
Love this content. This bloke is awesome. Hi from Brisbane
Thanks for this upload wanting to try my hand at this on my oem s2000 Wheels which have seen better days. Love the R btw
Brilliant mate.
Good work and good camera shots lol
We live in narrow cul de sac and I chose to pull over to let a delivery driver come out the other way. Big mistake. Curbed my - until then immaculate - nearside front alloy very badly. I used the same language that you did. The noise as the alloy curbs sets your teeth on edge and you know it's going to be bad before you even get out of the car. ☹️ Ended up selling the car, though not for that reason. Loved the dashcam footage at the end, btw. 👍👍👍
Came up nice Joe. So frustrating when you catch a wheel.
no idea why the armchair experts don’t like your fix, your method is exactly how I would do it

Yeh they’re not bad but I’ll be sacrificing the splitter on a speed bump instead of the wheels on a kerb next time!
Thank you soo much ❤❤❤❤
great DIY job Joe, and loved the end montage & on-screen comments 😁. Range Rovers, like most Audi & BMW drivers, think they own the road and don't come fitted with blinkers from the factory, or if they have that optional extra, blinker fluid is usually empty. Hot Fuzz after an autograph??? 😉
Man I felt those first few seconds, just recently I damaged one of my rims (fortunately, very lightly, as it turned out after polishing) by turning too tightly into a kerb and oh boy I was not a happy camper either ;) My tires have the "rim protection" thing and I think it helped a little? Some of the "damage" turned out to be just dirt that I think transferred from the rubber.

Hey! Been a fan for many years and was a valeter/detailer myself for a few years. However one thing I never learned was how to use a machine polisher! Would you look into perhaps doing a few videos/series on teaching us this? :) Thankyou
Appreciate the full length video, I hate shorts! Felt the pain hearing that scrape in the beginning.... Goodyear Asymmetric sport tires have nice wide beads meant to protect your wheel a bit, maybe look into those instead of unsightly rim protectors.
Aw man, good accurate job!!!
Really enjoyable video. I went to Wallasey several years ago with "Smelly" from Manchester. Man she was so fit...but sadly stunk. That's a very good repair.
Great video and results for DIY. What brand/make is the wheel holder when cleaning?
Nicely done ;-)
Tidy bit of work matey, nice to place to walk your dog looking across the Mersey to Liverpool.
Did something very similar a few weeks back. Freshly powder coated alloys in Gloss Black, turned a bend a little sharper than I should have and clipped the rear wheel. As it happens my response was pretty much the same as yours. Ironically if I hadn't fitted the 20mm spacers the previous day I probably would have missed the kerb. GAH!!!

Jb weld dremel tool sand paper and paint. Fixed a few good as new if just rash no bent wheel
that was wheely good 👍
There is more car culture in the final montage than at a BMW car meet 😁
Good attempt but 100% lacquer it as that'll corrode asap!. Doesn't have to be much but a dusting blended into the ridge where the wheels painted. CVR POV's channel does amazing repairs on wheels like this.

You may have to keep going back over the edges of the rim with compound to keep the shine, as the wheel will now have areas where you lost the protective clear coat. If you keep on top of that, they should still be fine.
Hi there do you have the link for the brush bit you used? Thanks
Before putting the alloys back on and hopefully torquing up the wheel nuts, did you make sure the bottom of the Honda badges were perfectly aligned with the tyre valve on each wheel? Dealerships and tyre fitters never do this. It drives me nuts.
Can you explain me please what kind of paper are you using for sanding.Are they wet kind of sanding???
What an incredible video mate! Thank you 🙏 just would like to ask, is this the same process for rims that are pitted by stones? I have a chrome lip, I got the Lenso D1 but they are pitted and it annoys me
@CarCleaningGuru
10 ай бұрын
I guess you could sand out or at least knock back some stone chips yeh, just depends how much material you want to remove.
Why didn't you use the polisher with sandpaper discs instead of hand sanding ???
Great video CCG!!! 😁👍🏻 do you think this could also be performed on a aluminum wheel that has been clearcoated?
@CarCleaningGuru
11 ай бұрын
Unpainted but lacquers yes but you will have to either re-lacquer or keep protected with something more superficial.
will this work on flaking rims as well due to road salt exposure?
Dashcam b-roll ftw 😂
Could you not use a small rotery sander ?
My first RimRash came when my mother borrowed my car. I felt it was grounds for a lifetime of jokes and i still use it as excuse ;)
Merseyside, greater Manchester, loony drivers everywhere 😂 thats a cracking repair, id be well pleased with it 👏👍
Thinking of try this out on my wheels - will a wax be sufficient protection for diamond cut wheels that are currently clear coated?
@CarCleaningGuru
7 ай бұрын
If it’s kept topped up yes but even if it greys a light hand polish will restore shine.
looks much better than a damaged rim.
Let me get the link to where u got thoes wheels
Those diamond cut finishes are a pain in the ar$e - I caught both NS wheels on my S2000 on a low kerb near Cheddar Gorge soon after the rears had been replaced due to corrosion 😭 I managed to tidy up the worst of it but didn't go as far as polishing, just took out the gouges and sprayed some clear lacquer over them - it still bothers me but after seeing how they handle wheels even at a "careful" tyre place where I was watching over them I can't justify doing it properly and sods law it will happen again so I've tried to not let it bother me so much 😳 P.S. Love the caption clips at the end 😁
Nice job Joe! Was it a fair cop? 🙂
What kind of wheels are these!?!!
Sorry if I'm being stupid but I think I need paint for my wheels if I'm going to sand them. Am I wrong ? Or I can do what you did?

Flashbacks to having a Tesla with those scuff magnet grey wheels, I hid the scuffs with Alloy Gators before selling it... Great repair and nice dashcam footage but I'm glad the rozzers are pulling people for tinted plates. I'm sure you don't do this but most people with them use them as an excuse to drive like a tool. Usually BMWs, Audis and the odd Golf GTI.

I just think they suit the car nicely, nothing to do with not wanting to be seen as the rest of the car is quite in your face. Everything is legit, cameras, wardens, rozzers etc have all been able to read them and if I caused an accident wouldn’t be making off in a manner a witness would need to read them so it’s a complete non-issue in my mind 🤷♂️.

The tires look like the actually don't protect the rim as they normally do. Could simply be a fitment issue that could have prevented this much damage.
@CarCleaningGuru
11 ай бұрын
Yeh intentionally undersized to prevent arch scrubbage so zero rim protection 😩
@Beer_Dad1975
11 ай бұрын
Some tyres incorporate rim protection in the sidewall, some do not - looks like these are the latter as there is almost no lip - even if they were 10 mil wider I don't think it would have helped too much as the sidewall design just doesn't seem to have much rim lip.
What about the lacquer that’s often applied to machined wheels? Scratching that off is going to allow water to further damage the opened face.
