    bigtemarifan, I think besides the obvious "I don't have a drill, but I have a soldering kit", the main reason to do this is not to run the risk of damaging the threads.

    Just got a completely stripped screw out using this technique! Worked like a charm. For those who have problems getting the solder to stick to the screw head, just make sure to heat the screw head long enough otherwise it wont stick. Good luck!

    I found my new pet peeve. Laptop manufacturers are just way too cheap to provide us with better screws that won't easily strip without applying semi-pressure on it. -My personal experience with Asus and Acer laptops.

    Not to be argumentative but I do hope you are aware this occurs when you try taking a small JIS screw out with a Phillips driver instead of a JIS one.

    The trick with soldering is that the screw must be hot enough to melt the solder. If you just drop a bit of melted solder onto a cold screw then the solder won't stick. Keep your solder iron tip on the screw for a few seconds before touching the solder to it. When you touch the solder at the point where the soldering iron tip meets the screw and the solder flows nicely, then you have a good chance of the solder sticking to the screw. Everything MUST be clean... use rubbing alcohol first.

    That really works! Got a really stuck stripped mini screw here inside an iphone. Tryed superglue, rubber, tilted tools, all with no success. Got it with this method. because it was very stuck it was necessary to repeat the process several times and to use a pretty rigid iron instead of the resistor

  • @blablabla1185
    @blablabla118510 жыл бұрын

    I didn't believe it at first, but it actually works! The major binding force is from the thread locker (such as loctite) on these tinny screws. I think it's the alcohol and HEAT that do the trick to loose the thread locker, and the screw can be easily taken off without much force on the soldered resistor.

    this DOES work (i literally just did it), but obviously it won't work for a screw that has been tightened a lot. the wire on the resistor would bend before the screw budges. if you're having that problem try a component that uses thicker wire, such as LEDs. you could try a needle or something similar. also, in my case it worked without the alcohol. BE CAREFUL NOT TO MELT ANY PLASTIC. if the solder doesn't stick to the screw up the heat on your iron, but be a lot more careful. if the screw isn't metallic in colour it probably has a coating you need to scrape off.
