Everyone commenting is normally right but I also have the JL audio micro sub and they are different. They do not have the ring you guys are speaking of like normal ones do.

I have the JL W3 V3 8" next to me on the table with trim ring removed. I will make a very brief video of it to prove it to you guys. I know this is 2yrs old but for future viewers people should at least attempt to install these grills the correct way. The worst way to remove the grill you need to remove all screws and take the ring off first.. Also if you just slap your grill on with out putting the lip under the ring you will damage the woofers cone

I already did it this way and it work perfect trust me I tried taking off the damn sub and doing it from the other way around.literally every single person in the world would think of doing that first

Anyone that has watched this video. I hope you come to the comments. This is not how to remove the grill. If you pry it out you're breaking your grill. You need to remove all the screws around the subwoofer. Pop out the bracket and a grill will come out very easily. If you pry it out you break it. As somebody has previously done on this video.

Except it worked perfectly, if your just trying to take it out and repair then no it'll ruin the grill but if your replacing it then then the old grill doesn't matter.. and btw I tried removing all the screws and doing it how you said at first and guess what... it didn't work, this sub is different from other jls. Trust me, I tried the regular easy as way first haha

@@gabrielgalaxygh I know this is 3 yrs old but for future readers this is simply incorrect. I have a 10" W6 and two 8" W3 sitting next to me and BOTH have a ring that must be removed. The rings don't fall out once screws are removed. I tapped on the ring with my fingers to kinda loosen it a bit. What worked best was using one of the speaker screws from the underside and putting it through the screw hole. This allowed contact with the trim ring and it could be lifted after that. I remembered this post and now that I received my W6 grill tonight and installed it I can tell you MUST remove the ring first. W3's have the same ring. Simply remove the ring, put the grill in place and put the ring back on. Press the ring evenly around to seat it around the grill(snug fit). Then screw it back into the box. So this W3 sub is not different from other JL's. I also have two JL W3 10" that have the same design and grills installed out in the garage.

@@gabrielgalaxygh I will. I ordered the grill from Crutchfield today and it will arrive the 29th. I will make a quick video showing the process with the 8" W3 V3 sub.
