MEASURING downfiring ported TW3 build! How does it sound?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A downfiring ported subwoofer enclosure can free up space for cargo since you can set things on top of the box, and also have great low end output due to being ported. How did the JL Audio TW3 perform in the box that I just finished building? Let's do a listening test and measure the performance!

LOVE that your using REW! I discovered them several years ago when I started tuning large Pro Audio systems I was installing (think community centers, venues, and contemporary houses of worship). Thanks for doing this series. This is the sub I plan to put into my 2008 G37s some time next year (hopefully). As for the amp/gear beauty panel... Of Course we want to see that!!

hell yeah I wanna see the fan installation! Gettin more techy is always interesting. I think this is a subject not often covered in good detail. When it's a good idea to use a fan, when it's overkill... what type of fans, how to setup relay with it, push and pull fans. How to build a glorified computer case inside a car cavity :D

I just installed three TW3 10's in a ported box and went over the box design with Eric Cole. I have it powered by an JL RD 1500/1 wired at 2.7 ohms and it gets down yet really accurate. The ported box is still smaller than a lot of dual 12'' boxes. I really like these subs

@@BIG_FETUS really good. just triple the internal depth and port width of Jl's ported box design for a single sub and keep the other dimensions they provide add some braces going front to back between each sub. Its not an spl machine but can be heard a long way and is also SQ at the same time.

Great job Mark. Just thought since the speaker is installed from the bottom you would use clamps to hold the retaining screws instead of screwing them directly into the wood. In one of your videos you advised not to screw directly to wood because with vibrations they may come loose and will not "grip" into wood as tight again. Overall, you are an excellent source of know in this field.

I want to see the build for the Amp rack panel FOR SURE! In the 90's I used to use push pull fans's across neon lit, plexi covered amp racks. With the cool air coming in from the car, and heated air exiting the car. I'd love to see how you tackle that, as I am building a similar system where my amps and DSP are behind the Vehicles Interior panels. Rather than in an MDF made rack. Thanks Rob / Winnipeg Man. Chosing a small redux fan is an interesting choice. They have higher static pressure than the larger fans but given the application in unsure if that's needed. Wouldn't it make more since to go with some 120/140/200mm fans since they will be quieter or what noise they do make being a lower pitch and making it easier to ignore. Ive had my hands on noctua 200 mm fans and they are suuper quiet. Granted ive used noctua 60mm fans and some 3d printed ducts to keep the space behind my headunit cool on my silverado when I head a processor crammed back there

Hello. Thank you a lot for you installation tutorials; I have almost watched all of them, but I want to build a sound system and there are some concerns that I don't hnow how to deal with. I have Hyunday Elantra 2020 and I want to install 1 woffer, 1 midrange, and 1 tweeter in the driver and passenger sides. I also want to install 1 wofeer and tweeter in the back doors, and subwoofer in the trunk. I want to use the factory audio unit with DSP and amplifier. The question is how to wire all of those speakers, specially that most of the amplifiers and DSPs come with 4 channels, but I have around 11 speakers? I have a problem imagining the wiring, so please tell me how to wire this system briefly. Thank you a lot

Hi, I'd like to add 2 x 12" subs into a Grand Caravan - would placing these in a downfiring box in the rear work okay, or would this come at the cost of bass? I'm planning to use a sealed box, as I prefer sound quality over tooth shattering bass

Do you happen to have the difference in spl numbers for dads Equinox vs. factory? I know neither are for db's, but I would love to know the decibel gain over stock or their Pioneer that sounds nearly identical to see if it's worth upgrading to the JL formed enclosure or should I just slap a box and amp in the back? Really would like to see numbers and changes in frequency with the bass.

I desing it so it can still fit it behind the small area left in the cargo area when you use the third row seat so i want it to have the benefit of reorienting the box. Btw i made the down firing sub box's feet 1.75 " wide for the porpuse of using velcro. Also thanks to C.A.F.!! because of you I've been able to learn and start making my first car audio build.

Replacing the interior in my 1984 Suburban. So while I am doing this I am upgrading the very lacking audio. The original speakers are two 3.5in in the dash and 2 4x10 in the rear....and that's it. I am not doing anything crazy, but hear is my plan. Replace the two 3.5in in the dash with two 5.25 coaxial speakers in the front doors, two 6x9 coaxial speakers in the rear, new head unit, speakers all powered by a 4 channel amp. I'd also like to add a single 10in down firing sub powered by it own amp. I am building a custom front center console between the 2 new front bucket seats and thought it might be nice to build it in the center console using this design. Question is...do you think it would be too far forward in the suburban to place the down firing sub in the front center console?

I could have posted this question in a different video but let's try it here. You have made videos before where you use the cars own head unit and add aftermarket amplifier and that is "simple" but how do you go forward if the car already has a amplifier with factory installed sub and you want to keep that amp with original speakers but replace the sub and add amp to that to get that deep bass that the stock subwoofer just can't produce? I have a Ford Fiesta ST MK8 that has B&O speakers on it with 500w amplifier split between subwoofer and speakers. I would like to replace the factory sub and add amplifier to the new sub but still keep on driving the speakers with the factory 500w amp. Can I get the signal from the factory amp to subwoofer amp with DSP or something like that?

Try shifting your crossover point down to 55 or 60hz. (If the door speakers can play that low safely) Lower frequencies (30-50) are harder to localize, so if that's all the sub is playing, it will be harder to tell where it's coming from.

Hello Mark, My name is Jasaiah Gonzalez, a 19 year old college student currently attending New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. I am in the process of pursuing my dream build. Although I had a few questions to ask you and was seeking advise from an expert. I have been planning this project for a while and I would like some clarifications. Firstly, I would like to mention on what I have installed right now. The car model for this project is a 2015 Hyundai Sonata SE (Standard Key/No Navigation) with the factory radio/head unit. A couple of months ago I ended up switching out the factory tweeters on top of the left and right dash of the car and replaced them with 2 Kenwood Excelon Series KFC-X2C 2-3/4" aftermarket Mid-Range tweeters [front dash L&R]. I also replaced the door speakers with an aftermarket Kenwood Excelon KFC-X174 Series 6-1/2 on each door (4 total doors). Furthermore leading into my future build. My dream build is to add, 1). 2 15inch Kicker CompR CWR154 43CWR154 3200W (both Comp R Series Dual 4 ohm Subwoofer) in the trunk, and a 12inch Kicker CompVR CVR124 (43CVR124) 800W (Dual 4 ohm Car Subwoofer) custom fibered glass/mounted in the front passenger glove compartment. To balance the audio I would like to add, 3). 2 pairs of Kenwood 6-1/2" (2-Way Car Speakers - Black Model:KFC-651) 1 custom on each door. 4). 4 Kenwood KFC-ST01 1" balanced dome tweeters. 1 custom on each door 5). And 2 Kenwood KFC-ST01 1" balanced dome tweeters. 2 custom, 1 on each back A-Pillar rings towards the trunk. Which leads to my questions. I am thinking I will need 2 amps or more. Would I need an 8 channel amp for the door speakers and another multi channel amp for the subs? Or just one 8 channel? Please let me know. And if so would you recommend the JL Audio VX800/8i (8-channel car amplifier with digital signal processing - 75 watts RMS x 8)? Leading into my second question... I will for sure need to add an extra battery in the trunk. But would I need 1 or 2 battery’s? And how many amplifier capacitors will I need? I am also not too worried about the wiring until i am there at the installation shop so they can add for what’s needed. I also have the Soundskins Pro Plus Extra Large Rap to rap my car in for the improved sound quality like you mentioned. All I have left to order are the amps, and the battery/battery capacitor. In summary/perspective my build will include, - 2 tweeters in the front dash L&R - 2 door speakers and 1 tweeter on each door (For 4 doors = 12 total speakers) - 2 15’s in the trunk - 1 12inch sub in the front passenger I will greatly appreciate it if you could advise me with feedback on what else I will need to add or will need to change. I also have to say that I am a big fan of your work! This is a legit build that I am trying to make happen within a couple of months and I am very excited. Thank you so much! Hope to hear from you soon.

In order to experience lower frequencies at the same level rather than flattening the curve you need to "at least" raise the curve 3db per octave the lower it goes. Most begin this rise in the curve from 200hz or so.

Hey Mark, any idea why JL audio doesn’t recommend the sub to be in a ported enclosure maybe because they flex too much? I don’t know. Any suggestions helps, I am thinking to install two of them down firing in a Ford F150 but not sure if the right move is a ported or sealed box thank you.

I have a wiring question for anyone to answer...I have a boss audio ar1200.2 amp...it says its 2 ohm stable per channel, 4 ohm stable bridged. I just bought a planet audio tc10d 1500 watt max dvc 4 ohm. I want to wire it down to 2 ohms. So since the amp isn't 2 ohm stable bridged is it possible to wire it down to 2 ohm and then run the positive and negative from each voice coil to each channel on the amplifier?

I have 4 2 ohm 6x9’s and a 1 ohm stable 4 channel amp. How do I wire this set up for 1 ohm?

It's not possible to wire that to 1 ohm/channel. If you want to do the calculations, look up resistances in both series and parallel arrangements.

i have some questions I would love to get some expert help with please ok I have a class AB 3200 watt max amplifier RMS 1600 watt @ 2ohms I also Have 2 12″ 400 watt RMS 4ohm subs wired for a 2ohm load which adds up to 800RMS watts that's half of what the amplifier can produce should I be able to use the amplifier with those subs or is it too powerful? If not can I make up the difference by upgrading my 6.5″ speakers to some coaxial speakers with enough wattage to make up the difference and should they be 2ohm or would 4 ohm be ok for the 6.5″ my guess based on all I've learned is to stay with 2ohm on the whole package but I'd like an educated opinion because basically all I've learned is from watching alot if you tube videos and reading half ass tutorials that more often than not leave me with more questions than answers I am a noob but I am not stupid and I pay attention to the lessons I am taught I'm currently working on my second car sound system my first was a hard learned crash course into car audio because it was on my 2006 Mercedes E350 W211 with factory Harman Kardon fiber optic amplified system so you can imagine how much I've had to learn in a relatively short time the system I'm currently working on my 2009 Acura TSX and I am retaining my factory stereo and using a line output converter to do so anyways sorry for the long story but I wanted to give as much detail into my project as possible to help get as detailed of an answer I can possibly get if you feel up to it please give as much detail and information as you can I will retain any knowledge given and it will help in future builds thank you .

Whether or not those subs can handle the power available depends on how crazy you get with the volume knob, how the amp gain is set, what enclosure they're in, and what brand the subs are. Some companies have subs that can easily handle double their RMS rating, while others will fry. Just depends on the company.

If I had a choice I would take the TW3 and use less space. Both are killer subs though that have a very accurate responsive sound.
