Hi Kayleigh! I discovered your vids a couple of weeks ago and have to say I've learned a lot. There's not so much information about this kind of "natural" retouch. Thank you! BTW, would be great a tutorial of background color changing. I know there are many tutorials about it, but would like to know if you have any specific tecnique that blends better with the model and her hair. Regads from Argentina.

Hi! why when i use dodge and burn i notice when zooming in that the areas become too light?

Why don't we just use the clone stamp tool? Isn't it giving the same result?

Hey Kayleigh! Is there a reason you used the brush tool for dodge and burning as opposed to the D&B tool?

  • @KayleighJune

Hi Stefano! Using this method for dodging and burning generally ensures that the edit won't be as destructive to the image, the standard dodge and burn tools in Photoshop also tend to produce colours that are not always consistent with the skin tone. :)

you still loose a lot of texture(blotches wont go away even with dodge and burn). spot healing brush is worst way to do it (there is trick when its useful though). i guess you can clone some of the skin texture back later, but why not doing it proper from the beginning. just imagine cleaning that whole spot with spot brush - it would look like a disaster. its ok for insta and smaller web size use i guess. patch tool would do much better, takes more time though. also, freq sep would up your game with both. than there is a proper blend if trick for hair retouch also.

Everyone has a different way of doing things, this way in particular works for me and has worked for my clients. The great thing about working in layers is that you can always bring even more texture back by altering the layer opacity and fill if you feel the edit has gone too far. There is no right and wrong way of doing things in Photoshop, what matters is the end result.

Kayleigh June true. if end results looks organic than for sure.

btw, opacity will bring not only texture but the hairs back also. so freq sep, blend if is a better choice...
