Professional Lip Retouching in Photoshop

Discover the 3 Essential Elements of Retouching Lips in Photoshop! Learn to refine, shape, color correct, and dodge and burn lips using advanced masking and cloning along with adjustment layers. In this beauty retouching tutorial, we're going to learn the techniques and tips focused on cleaning up the lips, correct it and make it stand out.
The 3 Elements of Lip Retouching are:
1. Shaping
2. Coloring
3. Dodging and Burning
In shaping, our objective is to define the shape of the lips. By removing the irregularities using advanced selections and cloning, we will give a definite shape to the lips and improve the surrounding skin.
In Coloring, we will use the hue/saturation adjustment layer to improve, correct or adjust the color of the lips in Photoshop.
In Dodging and Burning, we will brighten and darken particular areas of the lips and the skin around it to make it stand out and give it some dimension.
I hope this tutorial helps you. Thank you for watching!

Hi Umesh, would you have a tutorial on how to add details to the lips too? sometimes when we take photographs we lose details in the lips part, such as some lines and textures. or maybe the lips are chapped or too dry you would want to "photoshop" it. I see photos like this on kids. how would you fix the blurry or less detailed or dry and chapped lips in a portrait? i bet it would be good to recreate the details. thank you

Hi brilliant tutorial as always. Wish i discovered your site 10 years ago when I started photography. Anyway quick query for the lips, can you explain whats the difference between using a pen tool and simply using the magic wand tool to make a selection. Wouldn't that be a more efficient way?

Very nice, though I expected something different. What I was looking for was retouching cracked/dry mouth - whatever you call it. I would be happy to see this topic in whole again after 5 years in newer versions of Photoshop, maybe something has change with the AI? :)

when I created the new layer for the clone stamping inside and outside, I got an error message saying I couldn't select a blank area. Why was this happening? I was able to invert the mask on my initial copied background layer but not on a new layer I don't understand why as Unmesh was able to do this

Great tutorial but usually you are going to be in the middle of your frequency separation when correcting lips. A lot of the same techniques apply, actually a lot can be done much more easily when you are frequency separated.
