What is it with people and their disgusting comments. Why dont you just take the advice. 1 thing i hate about youtube is that people can say what the hell they want and not get kicked of the site, or get reported. Like on facebook. I can agree with you on a few points, hate comments aren’t good and people shouldn’t be so hateful. But removing someone from KZread because of something they said is very wrong. We should promote free speech regardless of the subject.

I would recommend if your going to use bleach I would rinse really well then put back in the container with some water and good dose of seachem prime and shake well and rerinse again to make sure the bleach is completely gone.

The bleach treatment works great! I had to upscale it quite a bit but I'm amazed how well it got rid of all the alga, black and green from all my aquarium items. I used a container big enough to hold all my aquarium items with hot water and 1 cup of bleach, shaking for the count of ten then letting it set for ten minutes, then checking again and rpeating three times, but I'm amazed at the results. Of course, I then rinsed off the aquarium items and bathed them in tap water, three times to make sure all the bleach was gone and reinstalled. Looks great. Thanks a lot for the bleach idea! Better living through chemistry!

Worked magic on my plants. I had tried for a long time to just scrub them in hot water and they had gotten to the point where they were black with algae. Now they look brand new :)

I use the same method, except I use an old toothbrush to help clean algea off and then put in my dishwasher on rinse only cycle ! Works wonders

Perfect! I'm excited for it to work for me! I actually soakd the plants overnight thinking that would "loosen up" the algae with only water and when it didn't I ended up trying to get it off with a scrub brush LOL that didn't work either. Now I'm trying your method! Wish me luck!

i was too nervous to try this with my silk plants. i boiled some water and added hydrogen peroxide and let it sit for about 5 minutes, stirred, and then another 5 minutes watching it. then i scrubbed the algae off easy.

Thanks for the video- my plants got so bad (I tried scrubbing and rubbing and boiling them, but they got continuously worse) that I replaced them. Going to wash the new ones for the first time today because they've gone green. Looking forward to not scrubbing!

Should always use a dechlorinator like Prime before putting them back in the tank. Shouldn't really use a scented bleach either. And for the love of God put a shirt on! Lol

Does the algae on the fake plants cause cloudy water. Mine is cloudy A bit even though I do my water changes. But I don't go into to much detail when cleaning my fake plants

Yes and if you have ever kept african cichlids it is best to keep the tank crowded to keep down on aggression.

Have you tried this with those soft silicone type ornaments? I have some fake yellow anemones that are turning black with what I assume is a type of algae. Wondering if a bleach solution would disintegrate them.

@@jamesakarodeo It did work somewhat...whatever that black stuff is penetrated the silicone and that did not go away. Anyhow it does look much better. I didn't realize how old this video is. Hope you are still fishkeeping!

dechlorinator will neutralize the bleach

good idea, but instead of rinsing multiple time just fill and use dechlorinate or quick start to remove chlorine.

I’m kind of the same way, I like to wash everything else nicely and just rinse the fake plants lol

I do the same, but for blackbeard algae u leave covered fir 24 hours, after that I use a plastic scrubber and give them a once over and rinse....perfect...and I've noticed that in most cases the blackbeard doesn't come back....
