How To Clean Plastic Aquarium Plants and Ornaments without scrubbing, Ultrasonic Cleaners get it ALL

Plastic Aquarium plants can be intricate and easily damaged by scrubbing.
In this video I demonstrate how to clean all of your plastic aquarium plants at once and how to introduce them back into your aquarium safely.
Bleach and water, plus ultrasonic scrubbing bubbles.

    Based on your video I purchased an ultra sonic cleaner just like yours. It works really well to remove algae off the plastic plants. Silk plants took a bit longer. It worked well on my rocks too, brought them back to original condition! It’s such a lot of hard work to clean algae off heavy, rough rocks. This machine works really well. Brought my gravel that had turned a bit green with algae back to sparkling new. I put it in a fine mesh laundry bag. Worked a treat!! Thanks for posting this video 😀

I am loving this unit and find new things to put into it all the time now and my wife doesn't seem to mind that it's parked on the kitchen table :) Your brother is going to enjoy having one!

    Too funny, Fredrick! I bought a ultrasonic cleaner for carburetors last month, and you answered my question as to whether it would clean the algae off my plastic plants and decorations! Quick question: what do you put the gravel in to keep it from getting down into the valve of the ultrasonic cleaner? Any suggestions?

    Hi Ian, after the freshwater rinse, there is no need to wait for chlorine to evaporate. BUT if you are doing a soak in freshwater, chlorine will dissipate on its own. It is important to use a dechlorinator just in case.

    You're also getting rid of the beneficial bacteria that has been growing on the plants and ornaments which is one of the most important things in a fish tank. What I do is I clean them with the actual tank water in a 5 gallon bucket when they start to get algae on them. Yep I will just use my hands really swish them around in the tank water in the 5 gallon bucket at my water change. that gets most of the algae off then I use a brush to brush them down to get as much as I can off the hard ornaments then I put them back in and I don't have to worry about bleach or anything like that.. But you should look up beneficial bacteria..

  • @FrederickDunn

    The bacteria repopulate very easily and the rest of the tank, including the canister filter is loaded with beneficial bacteria. Thanks for sharing your method.

  • @muzikmon2267

    @muzikmon2267

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@FrederickDunn Yes I was also reading about that. it all depends on the tank and how many fish you have sometimes the bacteria from the canister depending on all of the factors might not be enough.. I guess for the bigger tanks you would be right but for smaller tanks it would not be enough.. I just know I've gotten my plants very clean without using any bleach in the method I mentioned. If there's any bleach left on those plants you can by a mistake your fish could die so easily. I'm just too afraid to risk it when I can get them just as clean without using bleach. ;)

    @@muzikmon2267 Yes, things may be more of an issue with smaller environments. And with the bleach, it dissipates and the soak/rinse/dwell cycles are very important. Thanks again for sharing your methods. :)
