Had a midshaft clavicle fracture 11/23/23. At 30 days took off the sling. At 40 days started using my arm again lifting lightly, stretching. At 45 days had xray and it appears I've healed poorly. It's now 52 days and I don't have great range of motion. Best advice I can give is to leave your sling on the full 6 weeks even if you're feeling better. I believe I started using my arm too soon.

Im 3 weeks into a fractured clavicle. My doctor gave me like a 2 min talk on how to have it in a sling and just taught me the pendulum exercise. I had to research everything online they gave me very little info on how to heal or recover.

I'm 73 and flipped my bike a month ago and broke my collarbone. The surgeon did not push surgery but left it as an option. My bone was broken at an oblique angle and the top part was on the bottom, and there was 1/4 inch of displacement. I went for the surgery and am so glad I did. Gave up the sling a few days ago and hoping to get back on the bike very soon! Did you have a full recovery?

Fractured my collarbone playing soccer… a week later it was healing well until I felt it pop and I couldn’t move… had to go to the er again and it was completely snapped the second time… had to get surgery because no meds could keep the pain down… the surgery saved me frlm weeks of traumatizing pain… if you are reading this and nothing eases the pain and you can barely walk I would consult an orthopedic surgeon and ask if surgery is the answer because it was for me. I now have a plate and 8 screws and am 2 weeks out of surgery with bassicly no pain anymore and out of the sling as well… I wish all of you guys the best and hope you heal fast… remeber take meds if it hurts don’t fight the pain it’s not worth it

About two and a half months ago I was practicing low speed motorcycle maneuvers when my engine quit and slammed me hard on the pavement on my left side. I was within my "golden hour" so when I got over my initial shock, I was able to pick up my 500 lb bike and ride it home. The collar bone at the break started swelling almost immediately, but by not moving my left arm away from my body, I was able to control the pain. A day later, I went to the ER to be X-rayed and yes, I had broken the collar bone at a rather long, shallow angle and it was naturally in opposition. They gave me a sling, but to put it on was too painful, so I never used it. A week or so later I was able to get my clothes off an took my first shower. After two weeks, with a large lump where the break was, I was able to start using my left arm, but with some pain. I have many chores to do every day, so I had to work through the pain, trusting my body to know when to cut back. When it would hurt too much, I would stop, but continued to use the arm and shoulder as much as possible. To my satisfaction, I quickly regained nearly full motion within about three weeks, but with some pain. After about a month and a half, I had full motion and full use of my left arm even to the point of lifting heavy weights and all completely without pain as if the injury had never happened. I still have a large lump of what feels like hard bone where the fracture was. By the way, I am a very short and active 77 year old guy who has taken Vitamin K3 and D2 supplements for quite some time before this injury. I have taken some rather bad falls from horses and motorcycles mostly without injury and always considered myself as having "strong bones."

Everyone is different. I just suffered a serious fracture of my collarbone. My advice is to only rely on the sling or brace for the first couple weeks. After that let your arm dangle to start re-building strength and flexibility. If it starts to ache rest it by sitting down and resting your arm on a arm rest. You will start to notice more mobility as it strengthens. I only wear a brace when I sleep. After a few weeks I still had slight aching pains in my shoulder, but had mobility. I was able to kayak 4 miles in Key Largo with minimal discomfort. I guess the paddling motion of kayaking is perfect for a healing collar-bone. No one would have known had I not told them it was broken. They were surprised when I did. Heck, I was surprised. This was not a minor fracture. After six weeks was able to do 5 pull ups and 5 chin-ups. Push up's were a little harder, but I was still able to do 5 as well. I can usually do about 35-50. And that's currently where I'm at on my journey. I am 56 and wise enough to know to give it 4-6 month's, no matter how strong it feels, before I attempt anymore stunt's or any situations that would cause me to fall and re-break it. I also take D3 for bone health, seems to be working. And of course exercise. Most my friends said that people in their 50's don't heal like young people? I'm out to prove them wrong, buy stressing the fact that fitness play's a major role in the aging process.

Tomorrow will be 3 months since I got in a bad wreck and broke/displaced my collar bone and I have a pinched nerve in my neck on the same side and in my lower back. Had to wait 35 days to have surgery to plate the bone with 6 screws put it in. Mine broke about 3/4 of a inch from the end where it meets my shoulder Right above the AC cup. It was very painful worst pain I've ever experienced but now I'm 7.5 weeks from when I had surgery and it still has its days when it hurts an is very tight. But I've been doing physical therapy for the pass 3.5 weeks and it's made a big difference. P.S. the exercises that are shown in this are the same exercises they've showed me in therapy.

I broke my collarbone about 3 weeks ago in a quad accident. The break looks pretty bad I haven’t been able to look at the X-rays yet. I have my appointment with the ortho next week. My shoulder is pushed forwards a bit and it a little swollen with some mild numbness. How bad is that? Pain has calmed down and can now slowly move my shoulder in circles.

Dear PTA sir, Thank you very much for your video on Rehab collar bone fracture. Really it is very useful. But I am having small doubt that, when should these exercises after the injury took place. Say for example, after one week from the date of injury, do Wrist extensor, after two weeks wrist flexion, etc. like this please list out the time and exercise name. It will be very useful for doing the exercise in sequence after injury.

On January 3, 23 I slipped and fall on a rainy night. It broke by collar bone at my shoulder and dislocated it at my sternum. The collar bone was driven across my sternum for about 7 inches. As I recovered from the fall, it fell back into play at my sternum. It left a swelling across my sternum. Now I have a swelling across my sternum nearly touching my throat. What can I do to reduce the swelling?

Hi, thanks for the info. I have a question. How do you recommend to rehab a broken collar bone that healed badly? I had 2 car accidents in 5 years apart a long time ago. Because I was a kid (11 and 16) and a swimmer the doctors didn’t wanted to do any treatment except 1 cycle of PT. I didn’t know I broke it untill 1 month ago, they never told me.. I suffered from pain for a long time and started new PT that did helped with the stiffness I felt and part of the pain but, in some movements it’s still get blocked, like I can’t make some rotations of the shoulder because it starts to hurt and literally feels like it get stuck. I still have some pain there especially when we are working on the rotations.. any recommendations?

Hey man. Thanks for the video. Do you have any advice for rebalancing the muscles for a healed collar bone? I broke mine almost a year ago. It's healed with a slight misalignment but is generally ok. I've started doing shoulder work outs recently, like military press, side lateral raises etc. The damaged shoulder clicks on every single movement, and by the end is a bit sore. I suspect I'm heading towards arthritis if I don't figure out how to get rid of the click. Pulling type row exercises don't affect it, so I'm just doing those atm. Anything where my elbow comes above the shoulder causes a click. Any thoughts would be really appreciated. Keep up the good work!

Check with your doctor to be sure. But it sounds like you have some type of shoulder impingement going on. I usually work my shoulder impingements by focusing on strengthening the upper back muscles and rear deltoids, while also stretching the pecs and biceps. Definitely follow up with a physical therapist in your area for a full evaluation so they can build you out a full plan of care or at home program. Best of luck to you man! 💯

19 years old, broke my right collarbone and went in for an X-ray to see the 2 bones completely displaced. Required surgery a few days later. If your doctor recommends surgery and you can afford it, do it. It took all the pressure off the bone and feels a little better. Hurts a lot less than before surgery, but that could also be the stronger pain meds they gave me 😂 they told me about 6weeks-3 months until I was fully recovered and could bear weight on my arm again. A broken collarbone isn’t to big a deal, especially if surgery isn’t required, I know it sucks to be out of action for a while, but you’ll get better guys. Let me know if you have any questions or anxiety about the surgery. Happy to answer it all :)

@@luisvlasman2762 hello! Hope this finds you well, I got surgery mid to late June and I was back to light gym workouts and everyday use by early to middle of September. It all depends on what your surgeon says but that is usually the time frame. I didn’t do much rehab, I didn’t move my arm for so long after surgery that I only went in for one session just so they could show me how to move it again if that makes sense. Once the rehab person showed me I had full mobility of the arm I was fine to use it after that. In terms of uncomfortable feelings, I find it difficult to wear heavy backpacks still, and I still get pain after a long day of work or being active, but backpacks hurt the worst. Other than that it’s just a waiting game until it feels better to you. It’s been 5 months now and I’m back being active and working out + going to work. Hope this helps!

i broke my right collar bone roughly 12 years ago, front wheel cased the landing on my bike and slammed into the landing ramp collar bone first.. hardly felt anything at all. Tried to start riding again and i could hear a clicking noise and felt a bit light headed; clean break in the middle took 5 weeks to recover and have no issues whatsoever. 2 weeks ago i broke my left, full force dumped by a double wave surfing at the beach and this one was intense.. very painful, broken at the end near shoulder. Needed surgery and a plate put in, hell of a lot worse and uncomfortable.. going to require a bit more time with recovery i would imagine.

Hi Awesome video. I just don't understand up to which part of the video I should be doing given my circumstances. Collarbone: shattered into many pieces (not a clean break) It's taking a long time for the bone to merge Surgery: Jan 17, 2024 . They put a titanium plate and multiple screws because multiple pieces April 20, 2024 (about 3 months after surgery) - The doctor is expressing concerns over the healing of the bone (We can see via the Xray that the bone is not merging and no callus is being formed around the bone) and ordered a CT scan. He's expressing concerns of the titanium plate breaking as well. With that being said, up to which point of the exercises shown in the video should I be doing? Should I be doing them all? Pain permitting? Or up to which exercise do you recommend? Thank you in advance :)
