My mother is 57. She just fell a week ago and suffered a comminuted spiral fracture of her humerus. Because she’s a heart disease patient who had a heart attack 2 years ago she’s scared of surgery. Ortho said it looks stable now but we’re due in 2 weeks with new X-rays to see if the bones are still in place. They left her in a sling for the time being. Is this normal? She doesn’t have insurance but I’m capable of paying out of pocket for procedures and care for her though I’m worried because of her lack of insurance they may not want to care for her as well as they would someone else. Any advice?

I broke my collarbone in 3, and had surgery. As I keep myself active, I managed to get arm out of sling 2 weeks after surgery. I had a very high protein diet post op, lots of chicken, steak, fish and milk. Pretty much have full range of movement and doing light weights 3 weeks after surgery. Still taking it easy.

Everyone is different. I just suffered a serious fracture of my collarbone. My advice is to only rely on the sling or brace for the first couple weeks. After that let your arm dangle to start re-building strength and flexibility. If it starts to ache rest it by sitting down and resting your arm on a arm rest. You will start to notice more mobility as it strengthens. I only wear a brace when I sleep. After a few weeks I still had slight aching pains in my shoulder, but had mobility. I was able to kayak 4 miles in Key Largo with minimal discomfort. I guess the paddling motion of kayaking is perfect for a healing collar-bone. No one would have known had I not told them it was broken. They were surprised when I did. Heck, I was surprised. This was not a minor fracture. After six weeks was able to do 5 pull ups and 5 chin-ups. Push up's were a little harder, but I was still able to do 5 as well. I can usually do about 35-50. And that's currently where I'm at on my journey. I am 56 and wise enough to know to give it 4-6 month's, no matter how strong it feels, before I attempt anymore stunt's or any situations that would cause me to fall and re-break it. I also take D3 for bone health, seems to be working. And of course exercise. Most my friends said that people in their 50's don't heal like young people? I'm out to prove them wrong, buy stressing the fact that fitness play's a major role in the aging process.

I'm 55 yrs old, & this is my FIRST time breaking a bone. 2 weeks ago I lost my balance in my back yard, fell backwards, & tried to catch myself. Didn't work out very well lol I've got a stable fracture if my radial styloid something or other lol. It hurt like HELL, when I fell & tried to get myself off the ground. It's hurts any time I try to open something like a ziplock..omggg.. its such a pain in the @ss. I'm finally able to at least put a ponytail in my hair, and also to button my jeans. My dr says my healing time may be longer because my xrays show I have osteoperosis 😮

Try the Carnivore Diet it can help heal you faster. Eat eggs and beef with sea salt and only drink water. And if you want to break yourself slowly into the Carnivore Diet eat a banana for a week or two because you are switching your body to a all protein diet to a zero carb diet.

@Malissa7 I had the same fracture about 8 months ago now. I was back to doing everything as I used to be doing after 6 months. Both of you will be fine, the important thing is to keep walking on it and do something not overly painful but uncomfortable everyday for like 5-10 minutes and take your vitamins.

It depends on how active the work is. A fully healed bone still needs strength and stability from the surrounding muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Check with your doctor to get clearance for your type of work. Best of luck to you bro! 🙌🙌🙌

I just had a street fight and broke both hands on someone who assaulted me. Great video! I guess I turned out pretty well in the end. 😂 Compared to him. Keep your hands to yourself people.... Because i defend myself 😂 left hand still is usable with a few teeth marks but the right hand looks like a boxing glove 🥊 😂. It's in a brace. I have a comminuted fracture of the neck of the forth metacarpal bone. And like you said it was like a shock and it hurts whenever pressure is applied.

I broke my left collarbone 2 weeks ago while skiing. It's noticeably misaligned, but is still, although barely, connected on the bottom side. Never felt pain during the two weeks, not even when breaking it. Only when putting pressure in it it hurts. I can also still do almost everything with my left arm, lift it up high, carry heavy things and play the piano. It's weird, knowing it's broken but not having any pain.

In 1972 I will stop by vehicle. I’m broke femur the tibia my pelvis , my wrist on my jaw. And we never put a single piece of metal in my body. I have on me is a total of eight months and it actually cut the Kisco off to secretaries of time to reposition my leg. I was given all types of lifetime inspections after I have the cast removed. Well years after the cast was removed, I started playing ice hockey eventually play 250 professional games in Toronto and this day. My leg does feel different but I was talking restrictions were a little ridiculous.

Hi, I have a suspected clavicle fracture following a fall, just under three weeks ago. My Doctor says I don't don't need a sling/support, so not sure whether this was good advice or not? He said the only way to know for sure, how bad the fracture is, is for me to visit the hospital emergency dept, but advised against it, as I could be sitting in there for hours, due to our NHS being under such pressure at the moment! I'm finding it uncomfortable lying in bed, as can only sleep on my back. I fell directly on to my right shoulder, so can't sleep on that side. Even if I try to sleep on my left side, whereever I place my right arm it hurts. Any advise/tips would be greatly appreciated Sir! Kind regards, Chance, Norwich (UK)
