    I have watched this video about 6 times now. The concepts that you have imparted have been fabulous, it's been like a college course. I'm not in a position to buy Sailrite fabric from the source, but I have patronised a local supplier and now me and my 1930's manual Singer are ready to reupholster my 27 year old cruiser's seat with confidence! Your video is amazing and very very appreciated. Thank you from Me, in the UK.

    Thank you for this instructional video! It really gave me the confidence to go ahead with my reupholstery project. The main mistake I made was not making the boxing wide enough to accommodate proper stapling later, which is something you warned about.

    Great job. Well explained. If I could make one suggestion. I've learned lessons about using a Sharpie marker or even an ink pen, It can and will bleed over time and be seen on the top surface. Try using a Stabilo pencil. Its an artist pencil and leaves no markings like chaulk does. It cleans off easy with water or a damp rag. Give it a try. Great videos, the best I've seen anywhere.

    We used an electric staple gun Duo-Fast EIC-3118 Electric Stapler. However you can use staple gun that operates on compressed air. You can use standard 3/8" crown staples for the gun of your choice. I would try to purchase only stainless steel staples for any type of outdoor project. I am not sure where to buy them in the UK. Sailrite does ship to the UK.

    I am looking for the perfect material to wrap car interior with and it will be my first time. I am planing on wrapping every part of the car. This is most likely going to be a '02 and up crown victoria and the reason for I am changing the color of the interior and I don't want it to be with cheap paint. I also want the material to have thick deep grain and have a luxury feel or at least a nice feel. I hope you see my comment and give me input

    Hi, thanx 4 so detailed video. Just one doubt here: would not the rainwater go though the unsealed sews straight to the foam, and make it wet, causing the rider's ass get wet too..? And even more: how would the moisture go out the foam..? Is not it the reason to keeping the bike seat cover one piece..? May be wrong, but do not like to have any moisture (domestic or outside) near my bottom ;)

    Lynn Berg Hi, Many of our customers use home sewing machines to sew this type of project. So it is highly possible that your sewing machine can do it. But machines performance can vary greatly, so you will need to test it out.

  • @SailriteDIY

    Reversing at the end and beginning of your sewing locks the stitch in place. If that were not done, you may find that the thread comes out from the ends when under any stress.

    What type of thread is needed for all of the seams? It looks like it has some stretch to it.

  • @SailriteDIY

    @SailriteDIY

    9 жыл бұрын

    Allsport fabric does have good stretch in all 4 directions, we used a PTFE thread (Tenara brand) for the video which does not stretch. However, PTFE threads never rot in the sun, but are expensive and tricky to sew with. I recommend using a V-92 Polyester Thread. I too will not stretch much, but as you can see that does not hurt the application we sewed in this video.

    I'm in the process of making a motorcycle seat cover. The old material I used stretched two ways. The new material only stretches one way. Should I put the stretching side sideways or longways?

  • @SailriteDIY

    @SailriteDIY

    5 жыл бұрын

    I would place the fabric's stretchy direction sideways, since the contour of the seat may require the fabric to be pulled down more in that direction. However, that depends on the seat's shape as they all differ slightly.
