Sherco 250 & 300 SE 2-Stroke Top End Rebuild Parts & Tools | www.rockymountainatvmc.com/Sa...
Whether it's because of excessive noise or just wanting to refresh your engine for the riding season, rebuilding the top end on your Sherco 250 or 300 2-stroke is a great way to get familiar with your dirt bike and prevent more catastrophic failures in the future. Knowing how to do the job correctly will save you tons of time and money compared to taking it to a shop as well. In this video, Charles shows how to rebuild the top end on a Sherco 300 SE, but this process will be similar for all Sherco 250 and 300 2-stroke dirt bikes.

    I have a 22 model 300 SE. I pickled it from the dealer and when i got it home noticed it was leaking coolant from the head. Took it back and they checked the bolt torque which made no difference. The o-rings were checked for any pinches which there wasn’t. They sorted the issue out by using a form of liquid gasket in conjunction with the o-ring’s. Would this be considered acceptable practice to used sealant on the head? You didn’t in your rebuild. So I’m concerned that this “fix” may have just masked a bigger issue which I’ll encounter when i do my first rebuild. Thoughts?

    It should seal without anything on there. Everyone does things a little different though. Did they check to make sure the head and cylinder sealing surfaces are perfectly flat? I think you are on the right track. I would call the next closest Sherco dealer and get their thoughts and see if they can help you. -Charles

    You didn't indicate if a A or B piston was used as a replacement and when they should be used. Does Sherco stamp the cylinder head with the piston size?

  • @rmatvmc

    @rmatvmc

    6 ай бұрын

    It's not stamped on the cylinder, you will need to measure the bore of your cylinder and get the corresponding piston kit. Generally, the A piston will be for bikes that don't have many hours/first rebuild. B piston will be 0.01mm larger for a cylinder that has some wear. C piston will be 0.01mm larger than B and for cylinders with even more wear but still in spec. Hope that helps!

    THAT REALLY SUCKS!!! I may just have to sell the Sherco 250 Se Fe that I bought last week and have not yet picked up yet. I just do not have 6 hrs to waste driving to a dealer (3hr each way) for a simple PV recalibration. You can calibrate most auto throttle bodies without an external computer. Sherco needs to come out with a dongle to do these simple recalibrations or make their system OBD11 compatible. There are not enough dealers close by for many of us. I should have bought a yamaha...

    17:05 - Is this almost compulsory to get a dealer to "calibrate the motor correctly" every time you do a top end? And what is this calibration?

  • @rmatvmc

    @rmatvmc

    8 ай бұрын

    I should have specified that it's the SERVO MOTOR for the power-valve that is recommended to get calibrated. All that means is the computer will know the exact values when the valve is all the way closed and all the way open, so the engine can run it's best. Our bike ran fine before getting it calibrated but we did it anyway to make sure everything is spot-on. -Charles
