It's always fun throwing a leg over a new dirt bike to see how she feels. I've had a few other Sherco dirt bikes, but this is the first 250 two stroke I've had from them. Right off the bat, you can tell this is a torque monster. Feels more like a 300cc bike than a 250 from what I can tell.
Tons more to come on this bike and I'll really be doing some comparisons to the KTM 250XC that I've also got. It's likely that these will both be sweepstakes bikes come September of 2022. Stay tuned for that1

    The reason the 250s from Sherco feel like a 300 and that they sign off sooner is because it has the 36mm Keihin Carb. As opposed to the 38mm or the 39mm throttle bodies that come on ktms

    Kyle brushing up on your French now! I bought the 2022 Sherco 250 SE for my wife and the 300 SE for myself and I have to admit the low end grunt on the 250 is like the low end I had on my 300 KTM's both carb and TPI models. If I had of been able to ride the two bikes before the purchase I would have gotten two 250's. I also am 6 ft tall and the cockpit is cramped for me, I love the bars so I just got the bar riser kit from Enduro Engineering and added 15mm riser on and put the Fastway pegs in the lower position and for me feels great. I also called over to Motoxperts and got some jetting info from Cameron (there are 3 Cameron's in the shop, confusing), what a well run shop and their customer service is impeccable. If you want to make it feel like a TPI bike, more linear power delivery go with Smart Carb or Lectron, for me I love the pure Keihin carb feel. Kyle, I am in Montrose area of CO and also going to be in the Taylor Park area so 7-10K altitude jetted #2 position on N1EH needle, 160M and 38P. Looking forward to some more reports.

    One of my sons got a 2022 Sherco 250 SE.. We ride 4000 to 10,000 feet. Adjusted the float, 38 pilot. 160 main jet, NECJ needle in 2nd slot from top. For Utah these settings will work for you Kyle. Dropped the front sprocket 1 tooth.. No spooge out the exhaust. Bike runs epic.

    I’ve got a 2021 250 SE that has a FMF Fatty pipe that really livened up the top end of the bike. With the stock gnarly it did feel much more like the 300. I like the 250 Sherco with the fatty pipe, seems like a better blend of the 250 fun, but still very torquey.

    I’ve got a 2022 Sherco 300 2T that I also got from MotoExperts and have about 40 hours on it. I’m 5”10 and the ergo’s are perfect for me. I planned on getting new foot pegs, but after riding it I don’t see any reason to spend the extra cash. Don’t automatically buy into the narrative that the Sherco’s ergo’s are cramped. Try it for a couple hours first and decide for yourself. I rode KTM products for the past 3 years and enjoyed every minute of it, but I have to say I enjoy the Sherco at least as much.

  • @mack73

    I'm 6'2", way more cramped on my Sherco than any KTM. I measured my '22 against my '19 KTM and the footpegs are about 1" farther forward and bars are 1" lower. So yes more cramped. If that matters to you is a different story, but at my height that is a big fat yes. Lowered pegs and a higher bend bar gets it to where I need it.

  • @alang3991

    @alang3991

    @@mack73 You illustrate my point perfectly. At 6’2” you’re more cramped on your KTM than I am on the Sherco at 5’10”. At least half of the male population of the world is 5’10” or less and shouldn’t automatically assume that the ergo’s on the Sherco are cramped for them because the heard it on KZread. Same thing with the flat foot pegs. They should try it first before making modifications.

  • @mack73

    @mack73

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@alang3991 Absolutely. I agree 100%. I think the point is if you fit fine on a KTM you are going to be more cramped on a Sherco regardless of your height. It is different and I think the point is just an 'FYI' for those in the 6' + range will probably need to do some work. Certainly no big deal, but a couple extra hundred if it's a problem

  • @joshhiggins8433

    They sell lower FLO pegs at MotoXperts. Those plus 3/4" bar risers made my 250SE feel great. I am 6'3" though. Also put a 13 tooth front sprocket on and it climbs like a mountain goat. Not that it was bad with the 14.

    I own a 2018 SE250 Factory. Been a great bike. Doesn't necessarily like the real snotty stuff(needs a heavier flywheel for that), but I have changed the rear sprocket to a 51t. I use a SmartCarb which is great for when you have to start the bike halfway up a steep hill (after loosing it) I have had that bike upside down and it still starts! The jetting comes from factory on the rich side (Great that your dealer Kyle got this sorted during the predelivery) There are also regular ECU updates available. Shercos come with a 220W stator, meaning that you have around 150W for lighting.(night rides are real different!) Top-end rebuild at around 100 hours. Suggested bottom end at around 200 hrs, although I have been reading of a SE300 that hasn't been touched in 19,000kms(12,000miles) except for pistons and rings. The common question is "what oil ratio do I run?" and the answer is 50:1. Unless you're racing, the Motul 800 will foul spark-plugs. Better to use something a little cheaper like Motul 510/710 which also has a lower flashpoint. For gearbox oil you can't beat ATF type F for a bang-for-buck oil. (Each to their own though)

    Need different terrains, I want to know how it does through a poof rut, Sand whoops, hard whoops, Braking bumps, deep square edges and moab type rock gardens. Test the power with a long sand climb, and the handling on a turn track. That's the stuff I want to know, dont really care about the pegs. It's too bad you havent done these simple tests with all of these bikes you purchased over the years to give you a baseline.

    @@tcmx712 I see tests on track. And some dudes do some shots of riding in the desert then talk nonsense for 30 minutes. I think Kyle is up to the task of doing what these other guys aren't. Gabe at torture test magazine does it the best, but he specializes in old budget bikes. Josh knight is great but he specializes in riding and racing techniques. Kyle has a unique opportunity to be very specific to a new bike on lots of different terrain, with times to show how he does on each bike, in his own style, that's what I want. Would you not want to see what bike goes up a sand hill the best out of the class of 250s, 300s, etc. Which one boils over first with no fan? Which one does a turn track the best? Which one gets the heart rate up the highest on the same course? Which one hops a log the best? Climbs a rocky hill the best? I would eat that up. I cant understand why you wouldnt?

    @@billypulsipher7313 nope I'd rather watch him ride the mountains and single track because like I said there is plenty of Socal vids out there. Plus do you expect Kyle to drive interstate all the time to just test how a bike goes up a sand dune??? All those later points he can do in the mountains aswell so I don't understand why he needs to ride terrain that's been done to death. There's hardly any testing of different bikes in the mountains so he should stick with that
