The bike retails for about $8900 (according to shop.shercooffroad.com/ at the time I’m writing this review) and is a great buy if you ask me. Not sure what the pricing on the 2018s will be. Contact Clay Stuckey with any questions - clay@shercooffroad.com. He is a good dude and will help you out.
Well here we go. This is the full review of the Sherco 300 SE-R. Let me just start off by saying that I really liked like bike. About 8 months ago, I had never even heard of Sherco dirt bikes. They are a French dirt bike company and they are growing in prominence over here in the USA. This is a quality dirt bike. Just ask Sherco factory rider Wade Young, who place 4th at the Erzrberg Hare Scramble, one of the toughest races on the planet on this bike in 2017. You don’t see Honda’s, Yamahas, Kawasakis, or Suzuki’s even finishing those races, but this year there were two Sherco 300 SE-Rs in the top ten finishers!
Easier this year, I did the review on the 4 stroke brother to this bike the 300 SEF-R. Both bikes weighed about the same (260 lbs in stock form with a full tank of fuel). They certainly weren’t the lightest bikes I have had on my scale, but one thing I learned from these Sherco bikes is weight on the scale isn’t the same as weight on the trail. These bikes don’t feel heavy at all when you ride them. On the contrary, they both felt light and nimble. Truth be told, in stock setup, the 4 stroke felt lighter and easier to turn that this two stroke did. It certainly didn’t feel as stable at speed, so I ended up dropped the forks down in the triple clamps on that 4 stroke to get it to stop dancing around on me, but the point of all this it so drive home the idea that these bikes have a really nice feel to them.
Sure, it vibrates more than a 2017 KTM. Once you get some decent grips on there, it’s not bad though. You only really notice it on long stretches of dirt roads. If you are riding single track, you won’t even notice the vibration after a few minutes. I really liked the way the WP forks felt on this bike. They gave me a ton of confidence.
This is a great bike. The dealer network is growing all the time and you can get any of the parts you need from shop.shercooffroad.com/pages/... very quickly.
I hated the master power switch on the bike, which I will go into. I don’t like that you don’t have a backup kickstarter. Other than those things, there is very little to complain about here. Watch the video and you’ll see what I mean.
Special thanks to my $10/month patrons on / dirtbikechannel

As I said before, if you remove the headlight switch and splice the wires together anytime the master switch is on the headlight is on. So it makes it pretty simple to avoid leaving the master switch on an running the battery down. My Sherco has over 100 hours on it and I have never left the master switch on by accident.
Why do I feel like a kid on Christmas morning when I see a new Dirt Bike Channel video waiting for me to watch? Great job

Keep up the good work! Not only a good reference for us rippahs but, channels like yours help the sport and more importantly our voice.
love your point on the kick starter ... a dirt bike doesn't feel right without one.

truth seeker I guess an electric start would be nice but I feel like every motorcycle should have a kick start even huge street bike s
I love your videos Kyle, you do a great detailed review of the bikes and love how you go right into the detail of the bike. Keep up the good work :)
I've never heard of them but I like what you say about them I'm your exact height and weight.. thanks for your solid review and not wasting our time with showing off your personal life like most videos do
I completely agree with you about the kickstarter. Especially on the bikes with higher compression (like a CRF450X), you can't bump start them so a backup kickstarter is very handy in the case of an electronic issue.
Great review! I had actually never even heard of Sherco before your contest. Looks solid.
Kyle, I got back into dirt bikes about the same time as you did. I, like you, love 2-stroke single track bikes. My current ride is a 2014 Husaberg TE250. I love your channel, keep the great content coming. Bill
couldnt agree more on the kick start, stupid to remove it on a trail/enduro bike where it could leave you stuck in the middle of now where
The new 2018 beta's have a lithium battery stock. The kickstart is also an optional extra. They can also be fitted at a later date with no mods to the engine. You are right though kickstarts are a must.
Still loving my 2015 300 SE-R. Parts are becoming more and more available here in Western Canada!
Best bike I've ever ridden in love with it 😍
Well put, the Sherco's are a great option. The review is on point. I prefer the 300-2T over their 300-4T.
I see you talk about adding some better grips to help with the vibration. I've got a 2017 Sherco 250 SE-R. What grips did you use?? Thanks! Great channel!
Kyle you praised the roominess of the cockpit. How does it compare in that regard to the 2017 KTM XCW?
You should also test/review a gasgas!

Big time! Way better than sherco, especially tge suspension.
Kyle, do u like the power of these older 300 sherco 2 strokes or the 2020 model??
Hello, may be now it’s not so actual, but I chosing new bike, and sherco se300 factory 2021 very nice, and and thinking between sherco, beta and ktm. What do you think, what bike will be better for not professional rider?
good review i am considering a sherco ,but i think the 450 for more cross country type of racing ..Thanks some good points raised ..
Nice moves bro...😉 Totally agree on the kickstarter,,,, at least give us the option to put one on there... Not a lot of Sherc's up here in western MT, but you may have sold a few more with this......... Keep living the dream, and keep us posted.... Thanks Scotty

Just bought this exact bike switching from a 4 stroke, any idea for the best brand of oil for services for you mate performance?
thanks Kyle! awesome! thank you.
not sure if this has been said yet. but when you discharge a battery below 6 volts, most chargers will not charge it. To get it to charge, simply tie 2 batteries together (a fully charged and the discharged one) for 20-30 min, then it will charge right up. Can't tell you how many batteries I've saved in this manner.

Or use a conventional (old school) charger until the voltage is high enough to charge it.
pretty sure the 2018 gas gas will retain the kick starter. please review the 2018 gas gas ec300.
Awesome Video.... Picking up my new SC300 Today at Cecil Penny Racing here in the Western Cape SA.
Is there in the future a 2019 Sherco test availble? Thx dude
Thanks for the great review and opportunity to win the bike!
What do you think about rekuse auto clutches, thanks Jerry
best dirtbike channel on youtube!!
Can you pls do a CRF 250r motocross bike review, and how it handles on the trails???
Love your vids kyle🖒 Random suggestion for you. Could you do a test on an older model bike ie. 2010 ktm 300 or any of the other xc bikes from 05-10. Its more for guys who dont have the money for anything fresher. I know you done the Cr but it was an mx bike. It would be interesting to see how much the bikes have moved forward also🖒 keep up the great work
Just for others interested, the power switch is fixed on newer models where there is no power switch as power turns on when started and turns off after 30 secs from turning off motor.
As far as parts go, I'm still waiting on parts from my dealer here in Central Pa, from a year ago. But I can go to Sherco Offroad''s website, order the parts I need, and they are at my door in 2 to 3 days. Clay is the best to work with, and if I buy another brand it will be because of my dealer, but I will miss the ability and convenience to get parts. That parts system is the best.

This makes it hard - KTM 300 XC, XC-W, Beta 300 RR, Sherco SE-R. I too think a dirt bike without a kick start is stupid unless you are on a track and really need to lose the weight. Any clarifications on the best 300 2 stroke? I don't race, but ride desert, and single track technical at times. Thanks,
How many hp does the sherco 300 factory 2 strokes 2016 have?
Great statement: "When do the dealers have any parts?" No lie.
Im in South Africa....do you give bikes away here also ?? HOLY MOLY !!! That is one lucky dude who got that SHERCO!!! :)
Dear dirt bike channel I know this is a old with you but I'd like to see the review between the Gas Gas EC the sherco and the Beta RR which would you buy
My ridding buddy has the same bike and he loves this bike i also share a video on my little channel about this bike preforming in the woods
Kyle, I appreciate your site and support you on Patreon. This was a nice review on the Sherco. My only real complaint with your videos is the sense that it is someone else's problem to deal with trail maintenance. I wish that you would set the example of cutting out downed trees you don't jump in the trail rather than riding around them. We are really struggling in the West to keep access to public trails and going off trail on your videos just adds grist to the mill of those that want to close these trails. JMO

Downed trees aren’t “problems” to riders, they’re just added obstacles kinda like creeks
I believe they are using KYB forks instead of WP now. In my opinion that is a good thing.
I really agree with the kick starter they need to make all bikes with them and leave it I love my electric start on my 15 250sxf but when the battery is dead it drives me nuts that I can't kick it so I can still ride
Great review! You're putting the magazines out of business. Good luck with everything.
Thank you for adding kilograms when showing the weight. :)
great review as always very honest, what i would do to put my mind at ease is carry a usb power pack to jump start it if it did go flat on me in a bad spot. also what the price on genuine parts compared to ktms? cheaper more expensive
I've seen in a lot of your videos about the missing Kickstarter which I agree kinda sucks but there is a very easy solution to this... Carry a mini jump pack they weigh nothing and they also have USB ports for your cellphone incase it dies also. My 17 yz450fx didn't have one and my new sherco doesn't either but that jump pack is super handy and very cheap.
@oregonskate
2 жыл бұрын
I am thinking of trading my 2022 450fx for a sherco 250 or 300 2t. Are you happy you switched?
has the earlier models hav a kick start
can u push start it since u cant kick start
Lots of owners have posted on other venues that the Shercos turn much better than other bikes. How would you rate that statement?
300's are ridiculously easy to bumpstart. I do it all the time on mine. It will start in first no problem
is that a ktm 150 xcw in the background?

Kyle Brown wish it was a Husky 150, but I'm still stoked he's finally testing a small bore.
The way that motor looks in the frame where they going to put a Kickstarter ? It looks set way back in the frame to me. I run a rekluse in one bike and I can't bump start I need my kicker !! One time the shaft snapped off that's worse than a dead battery on a bike with rekluse .
I hate when bike manufacturer's remove the kick starters.
what bike is that in the background?
Love light bikes !!!
Such a nice bike
I got you that the seat is smart without any bolts, But how is it to change seat cover when you have that special end with the lockbolt?
@frelu34
6 жыл бұрын
Just have a look at the 65 SX KTM, same system. Easy to remove for a seat cover exchange.
@madMX96
4 жыл бұрын
brand new factory seat is about 150dolars so why hassle with cover?
you connect the wires of the lights not good from . the box. the sherco will kill the light automatic after 3sec after close the kill switch
Where are you riding along that river
Should I get a 2017 250se factory? 69 hours. Amazing price.
the power switch should be a key tbh
How much do they cost
Where are the GASGAS 300's?
The reason for not using a lipo is because the lead cell batteries are the most stable, so they can be submerged no problem. Try that with a lipo and you got a 50/50 chance of that batterey going to shit
when are you getting your hands on a KTM EXC 250 or 300 TPI ?

I wish Honda didn’t stop making 2 strokes because they was ahead of the game back in the day
18:11 "its put together really well" no handlebars mounted:-)
Maicos still come with kickstart
@jeremysnyder9348
6 жыл бұрын
And brother I'll let you try and kick start one of those beasts my god buddy I'm 225 and I kicked my guts out on a new maico 490 back in the day I can't even imagine what the 700 is like I mean really 700 cc two stroke for what you can't use it you can't hold the bike while 700 two stroke cc open up
The combination of no kickstart and the master power switch IS a deal breaker for me. The likelihood of needing a kickstarter seems very high, and I don’t like surprise long hikes and leaving 9k in the woods.
Loss or gain of a few ounces on a kick starter is no big deal. KEEP THE KICKER!!!
Wow! Those trails look amazing where is this at

Cool
Let's kickstart a 'Bring Back the Kickstarter' campaign! It's a bit audacious to leave the safety net off of a vehicle that can potentially leave you 50 miles from nowhere if things go sideways... Or a little switch is left on while you're eating lunch.
can a kick starter be added later ......that is something that really turns me off a bike. no one wants to carry jumper cables on a ride. so frustrating that everyone is doing this!
I'm impartial to Sherco. Watch your videos of them, but I for some reason can't get interesting in the Sherco bikes. You did, however cause me to sell my KTM 250XC and 300XC-W, and buy a Beta 300RR

300 XC each day of the week. Not. Even. Close. It's really evident when you ride them back to back multiple times, which I have done.
I ride during the Canadian winter. No chance my ktm 300 will start in that cold with the electric start.
I have the 250 ser 2017 factory. Best bike I ever had !! I'm just afraid one day it refuses to e-start...

And about vibrations : never tried the KTM but when i swap to my 2011 gasgas it feels like i'm sitting on a huge sextoy !! The Sherco is absolutely not vibrating in comparison. Well it's 2 strokes so i might have been lucky to get one that is reaaaalllly steady !!! =) Anyway, perfect review !
