    @5:48 I have a hard time hauling ass in sand cause of this kind of crap. I think the more you ride in dunes the more cautious you get. Also massive ditches in the sand after a lip. Sand does crazy stuff.

    This video is clear evidence of how much better 4 strokes are for sand riding. I have a 300 2 stroke, which is by no means a slouch, but in the dunes I literally have to rev the nuts off the thing to even stay close to my mates on their 4 strokes. My mate has a 1998 YZ400F with only 4 gears, and he comes past me on his back wheel, while I'm pinned in 5th, like I'm standing still😂. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

    Love the videos! Nice to see what it should look like when I ride. Just a thought, if you ended your videos with a quick 30-60 race recap/what place you took (similar to the style where you showed your bike at the beginning of this video) it would take your vids to the next level. Keep up the good work!

    Probably more with bike set up and riding technique for the 2-stroke. Ridden well, a 150lb guy can sing a 125 through the sand. The 300 has plenty of power, and bike set up makes a huge difference.

    You guys are hauling the mail pretty good. I took 18 years off until 2000, and tried that modern freestyle handle bar set up (rotated forward), but cornering was harder and steering was twitchy. I think we had it right in the 80's/90's.

    I just barely put a new piston in it before this race. I have owned it 15 months. I'm estimating between 120-140 hours on it. I can have the dealer check the ECU to confirm. That's probably a little too long. I would recommend most riders change a piston a little sooner. With how aggressive I am on this motor I should probably be doing a piston at 40-50 hours. Honestly after replacing the original piston it didn't look bad at all. Cylinder still had visible cross hatching throughout the entire surface and very minimal carbon buildup. The new piston was a stock vertex piston size "B". Felt like it had just a little bit more power not much though. This bike runs very smooth.

    @@ridewiththeknights Thats impressive to get 140 out of it based on how you ride! I wanted to ask because i just put a B vertex in my ktm 200 with 170 hours and wanted to know how long a normal change is.

    You need good tires for it for sure. I can't wait to try that rear Dunlop MX14 tire for the sandy whooped out trails I am riding. These guys are flying, (I can do that too, or used to), but I don't like my handlebars rotated forward like that. You ride back further on the bike to keep weight off the front tire. In the whoops, with your weight back, grab the seat with your knees, elbows up, (easier with lower bars), head forward, and you will find the next gear is easier. I pushed it harder in the sand, (and got good at it), because it was harder to get hurt in it. Take this tip too for riding. If you get tired, (and are in OK shape), instead of hitting the gym, ride more and figure out a way to ride so you don't get tired, don't use much energy. Then you will get smooth and fast. That is the avenue that Ron Lechien and Jean Bayle took.

    What’s all the dead juniper from? Some I can tell past fire? But other? Is the BLM going in and cutting and masticating it?? To bring back “water” or somthing? Cause dang it makes desert an eye sore with out trees.. They did something similar here in our desert

  • @ridewiththeknights

    @ridewiththeknights

    Some areas are true burned areas from a big fire we had out there about 10 years ago. A lot of the areas that you see in this video are the result of different BLM strategies to handle water supply and sage grouse habitat. The cedar tree's hold a lot of water so they have strategically gone into different areas and chained down the trees in an effort to supply more water to other areas. Many areas they have gone through and masticated acres of trees to rebuild sage grouse habitat. I'm no environmental expert but I've been riding out in this area for 20 years and two decades worth of recreational vehicle use hasn't even come close to the geographical changes that have been caused by the BLM's efforts. The place has been drastically reformed over the last 6 or 7 years. It's really sad when I compare it to what I remember as a kid.
