How To Rebuild Profile/BMX Hubs & Drivers | COMPLETE REBUILD

Ойын-сауық

In this video I cover how to completely rebuild front and rear bmx hubs.
I use Profile Elite hubs as the example and replace all hub bearings both rear and front as well as pawls/springs in the driver. Many other hubs have very similar bearing placement so they should be a similar process for removing and reinstalling the bearings. Make sure you know the bearing placement of your hub before hammering on anything!

Haha! Here we go! I'm going to start calling you El Sage. I was thinking about flipping the freewheel cog and while fiddling around with it, I accidentally pulled out the paw mechanism and for the life of me, I could not get it back in. Started hammering the axle and I popped out the other side BBs. 🤣🤣🤣Then I got caught in that damn loop of knocking out the other side. So I went to the internet and "boom goes the dynamite!", there you were. Well, the trick of using a flat head screwdriver on the individual paws worked like a charm and put it back together without fooking anything up. I was getting worried with all the pieces that I would definitely mess it up but because of your guidance all problems were solved. Appreciate you, Bro.

Any ball bearing is not inserted by putting in on its shaft and hammering the daylight out of it, Those small balls were indented in the hammering action and the inner and outer race were surely damaged.

I just did the profile mini hub on a bmx I just got, all kinds of thick green grease in there, to the point some of the pawls would stick in the shut position, cleaned out now with zero grease I don't even bother to drop thin oil on the pawl base, totally dry works best every time.

This one reminds me of the old string around your profile pawls to close em and drop the driver in😂

When you order them you can choose the driver styles. They have the shimano driver which is pretty much the standard so you can charge the cogs.

You didn’t show how much pressure goes into the male hub threaded nut. You know, the nut on the outside of the freewheel. Does that just get snugged? Is there a torque spec?

Never push bearings in using the inner race. This will destroy the bearing. Only push the outer race.

Could be as simple as someone putting alot of grease on the driver hub creating the engagement to slip , however in my experience It's a good guess that the c shaped retainer that holds the paws inplace on driver has lost its metal memory ( has worn out. ) and over time opened up the end to end gap. some people call it a driver spring or paw spring. ( creating a larger gap than originally.) when it does this it doesn't let the paws all rest engaged it lets 2 of the 3 or 3 of the 4 paws to have ok engagement but once it gets to the paw that's not properly set in engagement position it cause's it to not engage to the hub properly and a tooth skipping can be fealt /heard while aggressively pedaling or pedaling up inclines. Best of luck n your new bike if you decide to get it. Should be a easy fix. I've made new clips out of guitar string in a bind. But your local bike shop should have a new paw retaining spring clip for most common drivers. If they have em and cheap I'd throw in new paws aswell.

You say 99% of front hubs are like that, but I feel like there are a lot more unsealed front hubs out there than sealed. Maybe like 15% I’ve seen are sealed and I’ve looked

If its an actual bmx that's meant to be used in the park or street then they won't have unsealed bearings as they'll just break super quickly.
