HOW to Raise to the Roof on a Skoolie - The details step by step tutorial (Converted Bus)

This is the way that we raised the roof of our skoolie - 21 inches. Depending on your preferences and budget - raising the roof could transform your converted school bus. We do not regret doing this at all! It MAKES our bus :) This is our first video we ever made and appreciate all the comments and likes!

Hi Heather and George! Do you think there's way to do this without welding? No one on our crew is an experienced/confident welder and we'd like to avoid contracting out if possible. Thanks so much!

Does anyone know the name for the tool that is welded on the hat channel to keep the roof raised between jackings? I found a threaded rod and nuts that fit, but I don't know what the piece that is actually welded on to the frame is called. I got several blank expressions at the hardware store trying to describe it haha!

I misunderstood the function of that piece :-P after realizing it was literally just a surface for the nuts to sit on, we ended up using some scrap square tubing from the new support rib extensions we cut. Your videos have been quite helpful, thanks you two!

Sorry about the delay! We are moving our life and the bus (more about that later). No, the roof raise not impact insurance. We have a video coming up on insurance soon. Try SF in your state for insurance!

Staggering cuts will not make it stronger. Did the bus have staggered cuts before? No it didn't. If you want it stronger weld-in cross members that would actually make it stronger.

This may be the weakest step by step tutorial on the subject on KZread. So, how are you going to rivet the sheetmetal to the hat channels with what you did. How are you going keep the rivets in line? You didn't even say what kind of 18 gauge you are using. Don't like being so negative, but this is really worthless.
