How to Raise Millions of Atlantic Salmon on Sea Farm - Salmon Processing in Fish Factory

Ғылым және технология

Atlantic salmon farming has traditionally been dominated by a small number of farming regions - Chile, Norway, Canada, and Scotland - as several natural conditions often have to be present to ensure optimal salmon farming production. Such conditions include: cold water temperatures varying between 8°C and 14°C.
The salmon farming production cycle lasts about 3 years. The first year of production takes place in controlled freshwater environments, and then the farmed salmon are transported to seawater cages. Once the farmed salmon reach a harvestable size, they are transported to processing plants to be prepared for sale. For consumers, most farmed salmon is sold as salmon fillets, although you can also purchase whole fish.

Not to long ago we watched a KZread video that showed bags of chemicals being dumped into the offshore Norwegian Salmon farms for medical reasons. The whole point was that the fish were sick and we should avoid them. We have avoided Norwegian Salmon since then. I'd like to see that industry explain and defend the practice.

Yeah, thats true. Some years ago, I attended a lecture from a marine biologist, where he explained all thats wrong with farmed fish. Basically farmed fish ruins everything - The sourounding life and the farmed fish itself. He was very negative about it. So I have also made a boykot of farmed fish..

@@garrettgentry4417 there is a difference between 'farmed fish' and 'wild fish'. How do you define 'wild fish'? For me, 'wild fish' is a fish living wild and totally natural to its respective nature, and therefore definitely ok to buy (as a costumer) - If the fish is caught ethically though. And not caught in a way that destroys the natural life sourounding that particular fish species. I tend to look for the MSC logo when I buy fish. As far as I am informed, the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is a good indicator to tell if a fish is sustainably caught 😉🙂

Having spent ten thousand hours underwater, working for these farms, I can assure you they produce a beautiful product. Most all of the environmental concerns are either overblown or made up. Antibiotics are minimally used, only when necessary, for bacteria infections, the same as with humans. Many farm animals get it in their feed daily as it acts like a growth hormone. They are also expensive and cost to administer them. Salmon in farms cannot be over crowded as it is unhealthy for them and slows growth. At the farm I worked for, you couldn't even see the school of fish much of the time when diving in the pens. The environment under and around the farms had more marine life than beyond them. The floats that floated the farms were covered with barnacles and mussels. As a hobby we hung bags of oysters to grow. I've always understood that people didn't want to see the farms from their waterfront homes. But the erroneous accusations have been just that. When I encountered one of these "eco-terrorist" bashing the farms with false information, the first thing I'd ask them if they had ever been to a salmon farm and even more, ever dove in and around one?

As someone that grew up in the bush. When it comes to greenies, they literally all hate nature and their understanding of what happens on farms or even in nature is all propaganda or seen in disney movies. The majority of them haven't even planted a single tree in their entire lives. Just ignore them. I've first hand seen elephants starve to death because some dutch eco idiots didn't want us to cull the herds and caused a massive international outcry. They ate all the available food, destroyed all the trees and then starved to death slowly and painfully.

The meat is white , this fish is a hybrid and it only grows as fast because it’s genetically modified. It would take a fish to get to that size double or triple in nature . In order to market it as Salmon they feed it pellets laced with keratin which is orange . Basically they dye the meat before slaughtering them because people associate Salmon with that color . In actuality, they are closer to trout or cod fish then Salmon . They also can’t reproduce naturally, it’s similar to Koi fish but those are decorative.

Fish farming in the sea makes more sense than anything else, we've been doing to feed ourselves. If wild salmon tastes better than farmed salmon... could it be that farmed salmon isn't getting the variety of food supply that wild fish get? Does the fish feed mill acquire the waste product from a variety of fishing vessels/ canneries? i.e. Oyster/ crustaceans/ anemone/ squid.... ?
