    Here is a tip, white helmet vs black helmet doesn’t matter. The EPS foam prevents the minimally extra heat transfer from a black helmet from getting to your head. Wear what looks best (or has the best deal for sale).

  • @jeromeibanez2891

    @jeromeibanez2891

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi. The qualification process for the 70.3 (Half Ironman) is the same but you obviously need to win in the 70.3 race instead. A lot of pros race both because a 70.3 is usually part of a pro's preparation for the full Ironman. The WTC (the company that owns the Ironman brand) has a 5150 variation (Olympic distance) but this one has no world championships yet as far as I know. The ITU (another entity and is more of a governing body than a company) organizes the world championships for the Olympic distance. It's a point based system and the ITU is the basis for Olympic qualification. Most pros will race at all levels (maybe except for the sprint) since the Olympic prepares them for the 70.3, and the 70.3 prepares them for the Ironman, and so on.

    God, I hate this argument! “They’re doing better than me, so they must be cheating” As someone who races/trains on a national championship collegiate team, I can confirm that there are some people who just have inhuman physiologies. I train my ass off, and they’re still people that are head and shoulders above me. The thing that really gets to me is this doesn’t happen in any other sport. You don’t see the people bemoaning pro footballers for taking PEDs even though, no matter how much you train, you wouldn’t be able to play as well as them.

    @J K You are absolutely right!!! The last 1/2 ironman I did cost close to 1k just to enter. I haven't done another one since. While I was satisfied that I completed it, the thought of spending even more just to race just didn't make sense. The cost of TRYING to qualify for Kona is astronomical!!! Let's not forget getting there and staying there. The amount of time, money, and effort to just do one of these is amazing. It's definitely a mental and physical push to complete it and athletes should be proud that they finished no matter what.

    I think you're right about that. I mean you can take part in triathlon and enjoy it and have fun even on a budget without the best gear and the best training, but regarding Kona and thus getting the best results out of yourself in qualification-races it's to a high degree also about money: gear, coaching, travelling. It's actually one(!) of the things that drive me education- and jobwise: I wanna enjoy my job and stuff but if it pays enough to one day fulfill my triathlon-goals I'd be really happy. If not life goes on still, but yeah: with a certain amount of money triathlon gets to the fullest. Worst case there's still my passion for marathons which doesn't cost that much at all. :-)

    @@Tri_Ing_Guy I don't know about the crybaby thing. Wouldn't it be the point of a world championship with the best athletes that it is very hard to qualify? Leaving amazing athletes out, because they've put their A-races onto Challenge-Family events or independent ones does not make the championship better. The spirit behind it is not athletic,but economic, but they definitely found a great way to syphon lots of money off athletes' and volunteers' passion.

    ONLY Top 3 in every single AG should make it which is like most races top 3 for awards , gold , silver , bronze . Not 6 or 7 deep because of more athletes in lets say 40-44 , that creates a over racing mindset, fast forward 30 yrs 70-74 why should one 71 yr old man make it instead of three ? That is my only complaint after being in the sport since 1985 . And if there is only 2 in the 75-79 , that 1 slot rolls down to the 70-74 and so forth.
