It's one thing to just tell a bunch of people the secrets to tricks that you don't actually own the rights to, but since this is KZread, you actually do stand to make money on it if they are viewed often enough. If you have ever collected a check on any of this, you're a genuine criminal who is guilty of copyright violations and possibly fraud - you get that, right? It's both uncool and actually illegal, since you're attempting to make money off of something you don't actually own. Did you even buy Daniel Garcia's video for this trick or did you just pirate it and then reveal it for yourself on KZread? I get that you have a passion and want to share. Why not just create and share your own tricks? Even sharing old classics is kind of ruining it for magicians everywhere, but it would be more ethically sound than what you're doing right here and now. Invent your own awesome tricks and then share them with the world. Just thanking people for commenting rather than even attempting to back up what you're doing is spineless and despicable. If you can come up with a solid response, maybe I won't spend my afternoon reporting you in every single way I can think of. I've got a little time to kill and I don't mind defending content creators with my time.

For one thing, nobody "owns" this effect. You can't copyright a coin sleight. Thousands of the same magicians, if not millions deploy the same fundamentals in their magic. JB Bobo's Modern Coin Magic is public domain. This is also true of many other well-studied manuscripts on the art. When it comes to "reveals" you have to look at intent. Is the person sharing the knowledge in such a way that others learn to perform it? If so, I feel that it is justified. Sharing the craft keeps it alive and we ALL had to learn from someone else. I didn't have the feeling that this was created to simply expose a popular or well known effect. This is a tutorial, which falls under fair usage. It's also a somewhat obscure method you are not likely to see in any working magician's routine these days. This isn't hurting anyone's career. This is merely a small piece of insight on one coin effect in all of coin magic.

+Daniel Gallagher I can actually agree the points you bring up. I certainly could have written my reply better. I completely agree that no one can own an effect. I totally love using old techniques in new ways. I also do think that intent matters, but the issue is certainly murky given the nature of KZread. The intent can get entirely lost when the Internet does its thing. What makes it even murkier is when you consider copyright or when someone's livelihood depends on continuing to be able to sell their product. There are many variables that have to be considered and after exploring more of this mans channel, I think he is not breaking copyright in most instances that i have seen, he has good intent and he is a good source of some obscure techniques. There are countless examples where this is the case, but I now recognize I jumped the gun on this channel in particular and I thank you for your level headed commentary.

I did this as a bar trick 20 years ago. When done correctly it is amazing. There is a 'companion' trick. Coin in one hand, nothing in other hand. Palms up about 2 inches above bar or surface. (Just high enough to rotate hand). Slap both hands down (Palm down) on bar. Coin jumps to other hand. On the rotation, toss the coin to the other hand. Speed, coin placement, control; the same for both tricks. PRACTICE.

This trick is invented by Daniel Garcia and this man in no way has any right to expose it on youtube. He's far from respectable. He's making money from all these views for a trick he doesn't own the rights to.
