how to produce music like Jordan Ward

SONIC TEXTURES Sample Pack - drewgrit.gumro...
Production breakdowns of White Crocs, Lil Baby Crush, Famjam4000, Cherimoya, Mustard and IDC produced by Lido.
Lil Baby Crush and Famjam4000 are synth based songs which use the Yamaha DX7 and Juno-60.
Cherimoya and Mustard are arpeggiated guitar songs with heavy processing and manipulation.
White Crocs is an 808 drums Pharrell/Neptunes type beat mixed with Lido’s production style.
IDC uses classic sampling techniques to create a more hip hop soul style beat.

    I am genuinely so annoyed I pronounced Lido’s name wrong, I feel like it ruins the video. The way we pronounce stuff in the UK can be so different sometimes. If you enjoyed the video, give it a like and hopefully that will cheer me up a bit lol Also anyone else pronounce the word lido the same as me? It even varies within the UK apparently haha

    @@drewgrit_nah fr it’s something a lot of people don’t even recognize unless they are involved with music production but texture is SO huge for how music makes us feel. You could play something with the exact same rhythm and if it didn’t have that stereo placement and warmth it just wouldn’t hit the same. That’s why so many beat remakes on KZread just don’t hit properly. I’m guessing Lido is so great at that because he uses a lot of analogue keyboards and equipment

  • @drewgrit_

    @drewgrit_

    For pitching Jordan’s vocals they probably used varispeed. Varispeed is a quick and easy way for you to quickly pitch the beat and bring it back to the original pitch. The best part about varispeed (specifically logic pro’s) you can varispeed the beat multiple times and record in each pitch and it will auto adjust the autotune and sound.

    nice stuff! I think on that last glidey lead tho, using a simpler and an actual vocal for it instead of a sine wave/synth would have sounded a lot better. using the crossfade and looping effect and grabbing a small portion of Jordan's vocals it is most likely what Lido did. But I loved the video and will sub.

  • @drewgrit_

    @drewgrit_

    4 ай бұрын

    Absolutely dude, it definitely could have been that method too! In lidos production videos on his channel he said he gets singers he works with to record a long note and adds it to a library to use for chords when he feels like it. It could definitely be from that, the only thing I’m not convinced of, is that it’s Jordan’s voice. It might be but it doesn’t sound quite the same to me, Jordan’s voice has a certain timbre that I think would maybe be more obvious. Thanks for the comment my friend💪

    Thank you very much bro! And tbh I actually didn’t even pay attention to what chords he commonly used. I was only really focused on the synth patches/ sound design. Off the top of my head it was a lot of 7th chords but anything more specific than that I’m not sure. Hope that helps my friend💪

    Sounds sick, how do you replicate everything so well and find the chords? Is it by ear or do you find the key then just experiment?

  • @drewgrit_

    @drewgrit_

    4 ай бұрын

    Replicating the sound is a combo of extensive research and my general producer ear/knowledge. In terms of chords, im not a music theory guy at all, I know very little haha So my method in this video was use a stem splitter website called Moises to pick out the synths/ guitar to hear them more clearly. Then I use that audio in Ableton with the convert harmony to midi function. Sometimes it works decently but still have to use my ear to fix it up. It regularly doesnt get chords correct at all lol Hope that helps my friend, its a bit of a nightmare honestly😂

    Ummm I’m basically just fattening up the sample with multiband compression, saturation and more compression. That’s all I’m doing really. Adjusting the bands on the multiband comp is doing the most work for fine tuning how it sounds. Does that help my friend? Let me know if you need more info!
