I almost gave up on this video multiple times during editing because knxwledge is such a talented and detailed producer, I felt like no matter how much time and thought I put into a breakdown of his style, it would still feel half-baked. But then i thought literally no one benefits from the video at all if i don't release it. So as long as someone picks up something interesting from the video then im happy haha enjoy my friends✌

Momma is one of my favorite Kendrick songs ever, and the production is one of the big reasons for that, although Kendrick has one of my favorite performances on any rap song period. The beat is absolutely astonishing, it's honestly hard to describe.

Yo yo bro welcome back haha I’ve been asked this before so was going to direct to that comment but I could barely find it lol did eventually so I’m just going to copy paste what I put then “Thanks for the comment my friend, so first thing is I’d argue that so much of the final sound of a knx song comes from his digital pitching leading to strong textures and great sample choices. Like for example if you sample a song with great bass, the chances are the low end of your song will be good too. So ask yourself are you nailing those before you ask yourself if you’re nailing the mix/ master. And then in terms of final steps, during my experiments the only things I remember that made me feel like I was getting his sound was multi band compression and general mix compression. What I’d recommend trying is put a multiband compressor on the master and adjust the bands to taste, give the low end a bit of a push. As well as general mix compression on the master helped glue the track together. Give those a go but yea sadly I didn’t focus much of his mixing so I don’t have loads of things to recommend. Hope that helps tho, let me know”

    Жыл бұрын

Hey man thanks for the comment, this is where it gets complicated. I think across all the knx tutorials on KZread, the info everyone has contributed is amazing but I’m not sure anyone has really nailed the final stage with the processing on the master. Like for me I played with glue compression, multiband compression and boosting the bass but I even seen people arguing about that in different comment sections, some saying he doesn’t boost the bass because it “makes the sample sound thin”. As well as saying sample selection with strong a bass end is the important part which is a fair point. Essentially what id say is, his sound is build from the ground up, all the way to the master. Good sample, sample degradation, saturation, drum bus compression, multiband compression, EQ. Also sidechaining the kick to the sample is spoke about a lot but i left that out because I didn’t feel like I got the balance perfect when I tried it and was able to achieve his sound pretty close without it, definitely worth trying tho! Hope that helps my friend, any other questions let me know✌

@@drewgrit_ I watched the video a bit ago actually while I was watching yours, I noticed he wasn't really speeding up or slowing down the audio, instead editing it and placing it in diff places. For the knxwledge effect, do I just stretch the audio out longer to get the slowed down effect in Logic? Thanks!

Ok so I have logic but never use it, it’s 3am here in London but tomorrow morning I’ll open logic, work it out, make a video showing what I did and upload to youtube as a private video, then I’ll put the link in a comments reply here, sound good dude?

Pick through sample and find a part you like. slow the sample down (you don’t need fancy plugins. You can just find the tempo and stretch it in the playlist. Save it at the new bpm as a new audio track ) and play with it till you make something that fits the tempo. Easier said than done. But point is to just have fun messing around until you hear what works

Try a bit crusher, multiband compressor and an eq/filter. That’s essentially what’s going on and can be replicated across any DAW, let me know that works for you my friend!
