How to print perfect photos using ICC profiles

How to print perfect photos using ICC profiles
As a follow up to my last video where we printed using the simplest method of just letting the driver control color.
Now we will step forward and explore Printing With ICC profiles.
I demonstrate the process using Photoshop and Lightroom and print both on a CANON Pixma PRO-100 as well as an EPSON SC P800.
Remember you MUST have a calibrated monitor for all of these tutorials to properly work.

    I wish my professors taught me this!! Now almost 2 decades later I’m learning about ICC profiles. My husband would also have issues with our prints and couldn’t figure out why, but this explains it all. I will have to test out this feature on my next print. Thank you so much for what you do! And your time to teach us all online.

  • @cheo1949

    @cheo1949

    The only fix is the either take an empty PBK Cart and Fill IT with MBK ink. Or print in Fine Art mode but accept the 30mm wide borders. Or print with QIMAGE Ultimate and with IT you can choose to not print with that imposed border. But...you would still need to print using a Fine Art Matte paper choise and feed through the manual paper feeder. On the PRO1000 you can disable the margins in the driver.

    You laptop screen requires calibration for color brightness and contrast. Print the Standard image. Do not edit it. Simply open it in your editing software and print it. In your editor's printing module choose to let the printer control color. Make sure to print on an EPSON paper. In the P800 driver choose that very paper in the media menu. Since you are on a MAC the driver color management should automatic. You should produce a near perfect neutral and correct density print. Compare that to your monitor display of the same image. If it looks different on your screen then you know it's the screen that is not displaying that image correctly. All MAC Book need calibration. Without a calibrated monitor you are unconsciously editing your images so the appear correct but since your screen is not correct...well you can guess the rest. The printer simply produces what you feed it.

    I don't see why updating LR and or PS would make already installed profiles disappear.

    How can you do this in bulk? I need to print hundreds of 4x6 photos, and cant really do this one by one file.

    If you just use one type of paper it will need just one profile. You need an app that will wow you to load and print multiple photos as opposed to individually. QIMAGE is the answer. Otherwise it is one at a time.

    i am using corel painter, and affinity photo. PS is not an option anylonger. i won't get into the politics. how do we bypass the driver, and use ICC? perhaps a printing app?

    Why even compare "near perfect result using the driver" when you can achieve "perfect" results using icc profiles. Profiles are the only logical way to go. All you're doing here is spinning out yarn for more stats on your channel.

    For you and me. But I can provide you with hundreds of my viewers who would simply love to just use the driver and with OEM inks and papers as I used for this demo it will be hard to see the difference. Remember I am not considering non Canon or EPSON papers or other inks. When using OEM inks and matching papers and ICM as the color mode, the drive uses the correct ICC profile any way so it will be a match to using the ICC profile letting the editing app control colors. Where using the method I demo of tbis video comes in handy is when one prints with OTHER third party paper, inks or custom profiles or any combination there of.

    Tom you are entitled to your own opinion, but I don't find it very constructive to the topic and this series of how to print videos. This is very helpful to me as I'm learning the basics. I've watched and learned from many of Jose's videos and never once felt he's pumping out videos just for stats. He genuinely wants to help the community and is very knowledgeable. Thanks Jose!

    @@cheo1949 You're talking like every printhead and every ink and paper batch are within such a tight tolerance that it will work right out of the box, every time. You know (should know) that is not the case, and never will be. If that were the case, why are you spending hundreds of hours saying otherwise? You just invented a pointless exercise to feed your channel.
