How To Price Postcards To Resell on eBay (Make $970 a Day)

mailseum.com/how-to-price-pos...
Pricing postcards accurately is one of the most difficult aspects of reselling to master. If you price too low, you could be losing out on thousands of dollars every single year. If you price too high, you may never make enough sales to have a viable business. In this video, I will show you how I list 50 real postcards from all different eras and at all different price ranges.

    This is awesome, I'm in australia and recently came across a few thousands of postcards for only $15. I don't think I can sell here for as much as you do in the US but still, what a treasure trove I found even just for myself. Post cards are awesome. I'm so happy to have found your chanel, I'm such a post card nerd

    Pricing items like these has always been tough for me (Ie:postcards, patches, buttons, old maps, ephemera, etc). If I can't find something I just throw it up for 9.99 best offer and see what happens.

    Daniel, I've been seeing a trend on eBay with buyers lately. I think because the economy is so bad right now, buyers are probably thinking, "sellers will except ANY offer just to make a sale!" I have MAKE OFFER tabs on all my listings but lately, instead of getting "fair" offers, all of my offers from buyers have been 50% - 60% off, my asking price, And that is on the first offer. My gut tells me to counter, but if I do that, the seller could walk. I think I'm going to have to look at my cards and raise the prices. Like to hear your take on this.

    I counter if something is around that usually, if it is like 75% or more off I usually just decline. I’d say I probably decline or counter more offers than I accept, so a lot of lowballers out there for sure!

    Writing on the back only? That doesn’t detract from value at all, some prefer written postcards. Writing on the front detracts a bit, especially if it is covering up the image.

    Hi quick question. When determining the value of a post card I research multiple sites. My question on the vintage stamped ones. When you go to set your price, do you determine it by just the post card, or the vintage cancelled stamp or add both totals for the overall product. Example you have a post card that sells say 6.00 and the stamp sells for 6.00 do you start a selling price of 12, 10 or just the 6? Thank you!

    Most early postcards were sent with 1 cent or 2 cent stamps, which have little to no value. I have found postcards sent with early stamps with higher denominations, which are worth a couple dollars, but never priced a postcard higher because of it. The chances of someone finding a rare and valuable stamp on a postcard are so low that I don’t waste my time. But keep an eye out for a stamp with an upside down flying machine, I hear that one is worth a lot 😉

    Glad I came across your channel! I also sell on #ebay as well as source for my local antique booths. I'm having a hard time figuring out a way to display my postcards and photos for sale in my booth and wanted to see if you might have some ideas? I have them each in an acid free clear sleeve to protect them from folks' hands. I also try to always wear gloves when I've handling them as to not add to the damage from the oils in my skin -- although there are times where I forget! Also, do you have any idea how to value stamps? I recently acquired a 1000+ estate lot of postcards/photos and a good portion of them are postmarked. I've been told that sometimes a stamp will be more valuable than the card itself....should I separate the stamp from the card if that's the case? If so...lol...do you know how I'd do that without causing damage? :) Any insight you can give would be greatly appreciated!

  • @mailseum

    @mailseum

    2 ай бұрын

    It sounds like you already do a good job protecting them! As far as displaying them, a postcard rack would work well. Most stamps on postcards are penny stamps with no value. Maybe one in every billion will have an error that makes it extremely valuable, but like finding a needle in a haystack. I don’t bother looking for value in stamps unless I see one that looks unusual.

    I have one question - I sort high to low on eBay to comp, but you use the default of Best Match. Is there a reason you do that? (I sort my way for 2 reasons: for some semblance of order, plus eBay sometimes shows more listings when sorting by price - best match seems to “hide” some.) Anyway, thanks so much for this video - it was very helpful to learn your thought process!

  • @mailseum

    @mailseum

    6 ай бұрын

    I think it’s nice to look at what the customer could be seeing to see where you could price yours, and I assume the vast majority leave it in the default “best match” sort. If someone else’s listing is not showing up in search or at the bottom, I won’t worry too hard about competing with them on price. If their listing is in the first few results, I know I have to compete with them on price to get a sale.

    I use the USPS international stamp, which mails up to one ounce anywhere in the world. It’s about $1.50 now I believe. I charge $2.50 for shipping international to cover other costs and a buffer in case they purchase more that ends up over an ounce.

    @27:44 he said “that’s a copy that’s a ripoff right there on a postcard as he is scrolling. Why? How does he know? What is he looking at? What makes him say that with certainty? Like I get he is a professional or whatever but like explaining shit in more detail would be great also if you the creator are reading this then lease please hear me when I ask if you can make a video that has postcards that have sold but have it edited like maybe bread and butter $15 to $50 postcards and a mix of everything. Have it bring up the card front and back and what it sold for and when and then have info on it like this was undersold show last 5 or 6 sold for x then what it sold for at y and then also go into maker of card the artist of card maybe have a list of makers or whatever Albert type cards they look like this say Albert if stamp on can’t see name look for this that’s how you know then show full screen cards one after after the other of examples even highlight with red ink what your supposed to look at and like companies or rather makers like Raphael Tuck cards show they iconic lion horse logo then like go in on several ones then artists like clap saddle show 10 or 25 of her cards her style her years no chrome ones those are reprints here’s how to hell here’s her signature over and over zoomed up like give us information we can use (not that you don’t). But edit shjt find images and like explain shut like give the top highest price cards to look for. There are certain makers and artists that have higher value $70 and up postcards no matter what. Like think education so a complete newbie can watch a videos and rewatch them a few times then go out and spend money trying to make some money. Let’s say you do it and get 15000 new people into postcards cuz it’s as easy as watching your videos. That’s more money for the entire industry that’s 15k ppl wallets that are now bidding on shit or buying shjt and so on supply and demand type all of a sudden those 5-20 postcards now sell for 15-35 because industry is growing… i like to see a video and you show me some shit so that I can immediately go out to thrift store or whoever selling postcards and then I because of your video and info can instantly go cherry-picking and flip some postcards make a little bit get all happy and now I’m hooked and then next thing I’m collecting my own stash and the eldest is history. Do the bolo but do them with more info like like these are examples of 200/300 cards and here’s why then show card after card full screen and point out shit and repeat it over and over and over like drill that shit in my head again so I watch it get excited run out go to postcard store start searching cherry-picking a handful out of a few thousand based off your video of what exactly to look for who to buy every time and show everything and say it again and again. Like I want to learn so teach me and like I promise everyone else does too and I bet your channel grows to number one and I bet prices start to increase overall so you cans make more profits maybe harder to find the under a dollar postcards but they will exist and it’s better overall for the industry. then buy them come home research comps of it selling for more than I paid and now I’m hooked on your channel cuz you just made me money I want to see every video and learn more show us more. Think of the hours and time you put into your knowledge of this… now get paid for that shit I don’t want to spend as much time as you did I want the fast track easy way not the hours and hours and weeks and months even years learning I want you to be a cliff-notes kinda shjt like you spent this long to do shit learn what you know give me the fast track I don’t want to spend the time it took you that’s why there are only so many people into postcards it has so much room to grow and that’s your job now. Give us information and say it like 30 times in same video after I watch it I want it in my head I can’t forget if I tried type shit from simple shit pretend I don’t know cuz people prolly most don’t know and middle to harder shit drill it show it say it again and again even more than the simple shit. A video that newbie to advanced expert can gain shit from your videos. For realz I hope you read this and do it. Visuals full screen and many examples and everything like show me and tell me and show card after card examples many examples and like recent sales like valid ones today and if watched later prices probably will just increase I often will replay and watch again Videos when i want to learn what they teaching so yeah.
