    Duluth Trading isnt really a "utility" pant...they are big with hikers and people who are outdoors in rough territory camping. They spoof a lot with their ads, but they are a high priced pant meant for out door folk. Noone who buys work pants would opt for this one. I would upsell these to hikers and campers from small to Xl. Same goes with their other stuff. They are better known up north, but Texans get into rough landscqpes as well and not all are ranchers.

The only issue is the lingering inflation which has tapered off but the elevated prices/slight increase we’ve been seeing recently isn’t good. So overall yes the economy has been strong.

    I appreciate you sharing your knowledge and experience with people. As a long time reseller, however, the "quick flip" is killing the market. Brands that retail for hundreds of dollars are being sold for the same price as a pair of American Eagle jeans. Anyone can make $20 selling something. I could do that all day. If you live in a part of the country where things are dirt cheap at the thrift store, I guess you can afford to make that $20 and keep turning and burning. But in a few years the market will bottom out. I see it in buyer attitude now. They get pissy if you don't take their low offer because clearly enough resellers are willing to take anything and keep moving. That Territory Ahead coat is something you hold and wait for the right price. That coat retailed for $400-$700. I saw a similar Eddie Bauer coat sold for $52 - and retailed for around $350-$400 in its day. At my thirft store they know the value of these items. That same Eddie Bauer coat that someone sold for $52 costs $35. Pretty soon, no one will be able to sell even the substantial Eddie Bauer jackets unless they're able to find it for pennies. Or just maybe that's when the market will stop bleeding because so few will be available once we get through the turn and burn. These are VINTAGE items. Vintage is supposed to cost more, they're made far better than anything on the market today, not be on clearance. When the product is sold cheap, buyers come to expect it to always be cheap. It's basic economics and business, driving down the price drives down revenue overall and kills your industry. I think that's one of the challenges with people just jumping into this. That The Kooples shirt - anything bright and unique will sell. Yes, the brand can be a slow mover, but that's where uniqueness comes in, as you have talked about with Rhoback - same principle here. Not to mention, we're not even in warm weather yet. Of course that is going to sell, and you would certainly get a decent dollar for it without having to take a low offer. I'm just becoming extremely concerned that the market is being killed by people who will settle for the quick flip - playing lowest common denominator is how you kill an industry. It'll just get tougher and tougher. With thrift stores INCREASING their prices - used prices overall should be increasing as well. Because that's what happens when costs go up. When the cost of milk goes up - all of the food companies that rely on milk as an ingredient, increase their prices. Basic economics. It's also about working smarter not harder. So many of the turn and burn people are racing to list so much every week. If you command good prices for items you don't need to sell as much. Smarter - not harder.

  • @kandmresell

    @kandmresell

    5 ай бұрын

    Yup, it’s called supply and demand. Basic economics like you said. Supply increases prices go down. Demand increases prices go up. It does not kill business, it creates business.

  • @n.s.8015

    @n.s.8015

    There's still a bottom that is agreed upon in business. Do you see department stores fluctuating their prices to such a degree? No. In fact, every chance corporate America gets they raise their prices and never go below that new baseline. We certainly aren't talking about that level of greed here, we're talking about sustaining an industry and a reasonable work life balance. Resellers as a whole determine where that bottom is. Otherwise, it's known as undercutting. Undercutting has always been frowned upon in business. So that looking to see where the comps are and pricing lower - is undercutting. It drives business into the toilet. Add to it that newer resellers who don't know the difference are pricing their inventory based on that crazy low baseline between the undercutting and then the accepting of lowball offers. Thinking that's where they have to price things. It just drives everything lower and lower. I've been around a while to see and know it. I also bought my wardrobe off of eBay from 2002 until 2016. It is quite a difference. People knew the value of their items back then and so did I, and I paid fair prices for things. There wasn't even a "best offer" option. Talk to any reseller that's been at this a long time. @@kandmresell

  • @kandmresell

    I’m not denying what so ever prices have been driven into the ground and the business is more competitive than it’s ever been. I completely agree with you. I’m just saying it’s supply and demand is all and that is not going to go away. More resellers enter the field increasing the amount of inventory in the 3rd party marketplace thus decreasing the price of those goods due to the supply being more than the demand. Only the strong will survive with good business models, knowledge, and supply lines to cheap inventory.

  • @n.s.8015

    @n.s.8015

    Some of that may be so but not every brand is flooded yet you can buy Eileen Fisher for the same price as American Eagle. That's ridiculous and completely unnecessary. And while there may be more resellers the number of people buying used online has exploded. I've seen numbers on this that show that there aren't enough resellers and supply to keep up with demand. TechnSports was just talking about this the other day. When I first tried reselling in 2005 I couldn't sell brand new Dolce & Gabanna because there weren't enough of those buyers on the platform or they didn't trust buying that online. Times have soo changed. So I don't think this at all about the number of resellers. I can show you so many items that I priced the way that I know to price, compared to someone who priced with comps and low offers. I consistently make more per item. $20 more on a Kuhl pair of pants, etc. But as one person and where I live, there's no way I can do this full time because the costs on the coast are too high to compete with the people who live in cheaper parts of the country, who are newer and don't know where the price point ought to be, and who "just want a quick flip". I'm in New York, we have some of the best merch. But you aren't getting a dress here for less than $12 and people are selling that same great dress that retailed for $300, for $48. You do a better job of knowing the value of items, and I know you don't lowball everything. I can't say the same about a lot of others or when I run comps. But also, this is a business, it's ecommerce, an online store. It's not a "flip". That's part of the problem too.@@kandmresell

    Idk if you've been to a mall within the past year but I think the biggest killer of the preowned market is actually the retail stores themselves. It may depend on the area but whenever I go to malls near me, with the exception of one in an more affluent area, every single store has sale and clearance signs in the window. As a shopper I can go and find NWT items for the same prices we were trying to sell preowned a couple years ago. And I've noticed a ton of higher end inventory flooding stores like Nordstrom Rack, TJ Maxx, Burlington, Marshalls, etc. Then resellers put these NWT items online in large quantities. Then Q4 last year was basically like an entire quarter long black friday sale. Retailers constantly blowing out NWT inventory at such prices is going to affect the market. At the stores near me I can buy NWT items in bulk for cheaper than used items at goodwills here. You said you're in NY so maybe you don't see this in your area so much. But particularly Nordstrom Rack I notice is having greater quantities of designer items at low prices, then when I look up the items on Poshmark for comps, they are way lower than years ago. So yeah I'd place more of the blame for price tanking on retailers than on resellers. I never hear anyone talking about how retailers are affecting us but as their pricing drops closer to ours they're our biggest competitors. Plus many of them have free shipping/free returns online. We can't really compete with that selling used items on platforms with no returns for fit.
