I started reselling 7 weeks ago, after watching few videos on what sells well in mens clothing. So I picked up each and every Ralph Lauren shirts I came across before I started, only to discover that RL does not sell as well as many youtube gurus were stating. So far what I have learned - it all comes with an experience, to figure it out what sells and what not. I have sourced around 300 items, and learned that 3/4 of that is not going to move on ebay whatsoever. I will be renting a flea market booth this summer, to get rid of that inventory, to make money to invest in better brands, and pick up only brands that have high STR.

Bundles of basic Polo Ralph Lauren have 59% sell-through. The short sleeves sell for about $8, and the long sleeve button-ups for 10-20/each. Looks like lots of 5 or more are good at around 100% sell-through.

Love this video concept! I definitely have several of those brands in my death pile :( Do you just randomly check sell through rate on items you thought were good when you notice that they're not selling? Or do you have some kind of routine where you regularly check if STR has dropped? Thanks for sharing!

We live in a rural area and I'm fortunate enough to have a Keevado near by, like a wharehouse full of boxes of Amazon and Target clothes. and they get a lot of shoes. I wanted to ask your opinion about a sale they recently had on women's heels for .99 cents. They had unusually large amount of them, they look new is or new witout boxes, what's the catch? I feel I wanted to buy a lot of them and like you are talking about in this video, I could have bought shoes that would never sell and take up space.

Yeah you gotta run comps on them and see if they are selling on KZread. I haven’t made a video yet on sell-through but almost every KZreadr has videos talking about it and showing how to calculate it. I would recommend mastering how to run comps and sell-through rates on items to make an educated decision on that purchase as well as future purchases! Sorry, can’t give really a better answer than that as every business is different and every item is different but the sell-through rate is the key to a successful business!

I agree with Merrell, I picked up a shirt a few years ago for $1 because I knew it was a good shoe brand. I also have a Peter Millar button down, a Nickit shirt (got it when I was a new reseller and don't know if anybody else had ever heard of this brand until today). Carbon 2 Cobalt sweaters have sold well for me at good prices ($30 or more), but I have a button front shirt that has been around a few months. I personally think it is very hard to find button front shirts that sell well (and usually they are the same price as sweaters) so I have started skipping that section when I am short on time.

It seems lately when I look up a new to me brand of a button down shirt, comps are always so low. All long sleeve shirts come out to $8 with tax at Goodwill (unless it is color of the week) so I have to be very careful about what to buy.

Might give that a try again! I’ve done it in the past but only 1/3-1/2 of the items sold at auction (so really bad inventory😂). The main reason we prefer to just pull them down though is to protect ourselves if there’s anything wrong with the listings since it was way back when before we had better quality control measures in place.

That percent btw determines how fast it should sell within 90 days. So if it’s 100% sell-through, the item should theoretically sell within 90 days if priced right. 50% sell through is 180 days. So on and so for. We aim for 100% on our store but also pick up 50%+ sometimes just depending on the cost of the item.

Is January typically a dead month for sales? I have been reselling for over 2 years now but really started investing a lot of time and money into it the past 3 months. I did well during the holiday season and thought things were starting to work out but now I am back to 1-2 sales a day which I have been doing pretty much since I started reselling. It's incredibly frustrating to be working harder than ever and putting in a lot more money and not seeing growth.

  • @kandmresell

Honestly I don’t know about which months are better than others as it just depends on the categories your store sells in. For example our sales are down 10% simply because most of our store is spring, fall, and summer items. Not winter. Only a small % is winter. Luckily the season is changing right now and the spring items are picking up. Seems like a lot of people are struggling with sales currently but I think the leading problem is just not buying high demand inventory for the vast majority of sellers. A slow economy I think would honestly help used clothing sellers as people struggle to pay retail for new items and instead start looking for alternative “used” marketplaces to get a sweeter deal on thing. Just my opinions though. Keep hustling cause there usually an “ah ha” moment in this business that changes the entire trajectory of the way things are going! Thanks for the support!

The Merrell issue is being small. The ralph lauren polo if you add vintage, as it is based off the tag, similar sold for $16 in pink recently. If you change up some of those titles like footjoy to (Brand Item Gender Size) it will help. Someone has to search specifically footjoy golf to get your shirt where footjoy polo shirt mens large golf any search for polo shirt will come up. You can mess around in the search to test if footjoy golf pulls up 34k footjoy polo brings up 41k. Change the george straight to Wrangler Shirt Mens Large George Straight Cowboy should get $15. Running into the same issue not putting brand first. Took the technsports class for awhile helped fix so many of my poor listings. Oddly enough soon after changing just the wording it will sell.

@@kandmresell The difference is that you’re talking about a local guy who lives there in Texas. Where I am it’s not hard to find high dollar items. I’m also not a clothing seller. I sell clothing, but only if it’s worth it. I’m also not new to reselling, so I know what I’m doing. I started before you were born.

Love the video but some of the stuff you are downplaying is not selling because the sizes are too small

Which brands? I thought it was only Ralph Lauren, FJ, and Johhnie-O that were decent in larger sizes or geometric patterns, which I mentioned in the video. We try to aim for 100% sell-through rate. Is there a brand other than those 3 that are good that I am missing? Thanks!

Just a pronunciation disagreement. Larry Mahan was a rodeo star back in the 60s and 70s. If memory serves, it is pronounced like "May hand," minus the d at the end. Just an old guy here, showing his age.

@@kandmresell jacking up prices. Brings resell value down. Therefore now they're items are just going to sit. So resellers aren't purchasing the things to put out there. So therefore less marketing so price drops Just like any business that jacks up prices and all the sudden can't sell products. It destroys the business
