Thank you so much for answering my questions! I really enjoyed hearing about your collection. I collect Edwardian actresses, for the fashions mainly, and towns I'm very familiar with, like where myself or family have lived. I'm trying to downsize my collection to the minimum, and bought a Stanley Gibbons postcard album to put them in, but I feel like I'm still going to run out of space anyway and may invest in a SAFE album as well since you've recommended it. Thanks again for taking the time to chat about collecting postcards. :)

You were a quick learner of postcard selling. It cracks me up that you didn't even know about postcards, let alone antique postcards. You've come a long way. I grew up before the computer age, so I have always loved postcards and communicating via snail mail. Within the past week I just began listing postcards on ebay. It took me about 3 hours just to list about 30 cards. I don't have a scanner though. I've been selling postcarrds on ETSY since 2014, but not single cards. I had no idea that single postcards could get such a good return. Thanks to KZread videos from resellers like you, Julie Norman, Popeyes, Epic Treasure, and SMPostcards.

I love cat postcards and any anthropomorphic or fantasy from Germany, which are awesome! I love to sell them and love looking at them!

That was an enjoyable video. Most of my life I have gardened, and do a lot of gaming. For the Switch, MarioKart all the way! Enjoyed seeing your favorite personal collection cards. I would love to have Louis Wain cat card, but there are no good deals, they are all priced up. I really am drawn to hand tinted French Romance cards if the tinting is well done, they have a very surreal, dreamy quality. Good stuff!

Yeah if I found a Louis Wain I would keep it! But too expensive for me to buy for myself. Mario Kart is great!

Great video Daniel! I probably started around when your dad did on eBay. My first sale on eBay was way back in 1996!

The auction sites you mentioned are not always the way. Any collector can step in and drive the hammer price right past profitability. Just today, someone bought a Santa Clapsaddle blimp for $350 + commission. The same card in similar condition sold on eBay today for $53. When you tangle with people who don’t know and don’t care, you have to know when to step aside. I see albums of Valentines get $2-3 per card regularly. Nobody is making money on that. These are collectors buying in bulk. A good price for them, a terrible price for us.

If you like Arthur Thiele's cats, check out Louis Wain, the originator of the anthropomorphic cat. He started drawing his cat Peter in 1884 to amuse his terminally ill wife. Wain's postcards, and anything else, go for a pretty penny.

Yeah I love Wain’s work! I hope I find some in lots someday so I can keep them, otherwise they are bit too expensive for me.

Some states are great, it’s hit or miss! NJ, NY, MA, DE, MD, RI, all pretty good. It’s really only NH, VT, and ME I don’t have great luck with.

Great info as usual. And I think putting your backstock on your website would be cool. And maybe send an email to the people who sign up to the newsletter to give them 1st shot at the cards would be cool. Between the York or Allentown show what one would you suggest to go to. Both would be a 3 or 4 hr drive and I could only do one. Thanks

I haven’t been to either, but I’ve heard Popeye’s Postcards say York is better if you are only interested in postcards and Allentown is great if you are also interested in other ephemera.

I had my own postcard site for over 20 years but still had my best sales on eBay. I was paying hundreds a month for the web host and advertising to drive people to my site. Not worth it in my opinion anymore

It does not surprise me at all that your highest selling cards so far were of a ghost/mining town! I'm a bit envious because that's the sort of thing I would love to come across for my personal collection haha. Would love to know the name of the town if you remember?

i got a lot of postcards and inside was a rppc of what looks like an outlaw gang and there is what looks like a hired man digging a hole in a larger pit and he is dressed different so thats why i say he is hired but it only has the date on the front and nothing written on the back besides postcard. i tried google image search but nothing comes up. there is a horse drawn carrage two very well dressed men are on and one is standing in that famous western shoot out pose with his jacket coat push behind him with his hand by the hip like he is going to do that western shootout quick draw thing. there is a woman in the picture as well and the guy in the pose as if he was in a gun fight looks exactly like butch cassidy and the sundance kid as his mustache and hat style with the rounded top are spot on and he lived in 1907 as he died in 1908 and then his crew looks like the other members of the gang. it is definitely not a mining thing as the cloths everyone else has on makes them look extremely rich and there is only one person digging as if to burry something or to retrieve it. they are in the dessert someplace so it makes no sense for these people to be out there looking like that and then also have them sitting around while some guy digging its really werid but yeah. help me if you can i am 90% sure its him and his gang but i dont know for sure but his crew looks pretty much like the men in the photo as well and the way he looks like he is about to draw his gun only makes you wonder why as if he was going to bury treasures he would want to shoot the guy so no one knows where it is or if he is retreiving it same thing its kinda a candid photo so besides the woman in the picture it is remarkably like him and his gang but i have found out that there were some women in gangs way back when just dont know if they had a woman but she does have a creepy look her face like she is evil..

What are your thoughts on wiping off the postcards before you scan them? I use a soft cloth like an old T-shirt cloth to wipe both sides of the card. It's noteworthy how much dirt comes off.

I don’t but it definitely can’t hurt as long as it doesn’t damage the card. I’m not necessarily against it, it’s just too time consuming for me.
