    I have maybe a naïve question: for postcards that have very similar, almost identical views, do you think the photos were originally taken by the same person, at the same time? Did photographers in the early 20th century make a living taking photos and then selling them to companies that manufactured postcards? Where did the postcard companies get their images from?

  • @mailseum
    @mailseumКүн бұрын

    Yeah they were likely made from the same photograph, from what I understand photographers would license their images to postcard companies and they would create the postcards. Sometimes the photographers created their own postcards of their work.

    @@mailseum That's what I assumed, since there are so many postcards that are almost exactly the same. But it's fascinating that very minor differences can result in a sale.

    Awesome, thanks, the two years subscription separately paid combined was less expensive than for the both value and marks combined yearly “best value” option! Ie if I payed for seperate the total was 534.98 but the “ value” option was 599.99 for both yearly!? Huge flag for me right there… Premium was 40 a month monthly Premium marks 30 plus monthly So they really try to make you think you’d save with both yearly combined but nope cheaper to pay separately by the year each Here in Australia and I don’t think I’d have any ease with customer service seeing they’re in Georgia… Definitely going to consider a eBay store over worthpoint after everything You’ve “Pointed” out. Thanks again ❤

    Wish I could find such great cards here in Canada. No matter, I have been blessed with other high-value items to sell (stamps, legos, etc.) The problem is, I'm retired and like to smell the roses and watch the birds rather than listing. Have still only listed about 1/5 of the nice cards I purchased from you. LOL PS: I have a Yucca plant kzread.info/dash/bejne/l5h6j82Gh9y3gdY.htmlsi=1xfS1rJ1B3wr8OgO&t=678 but just can't get it to bloom as in the photo.

    Their suggested ad rate used to be 5% -7% .... now the suggested rate on everything in my store is 12% to 20% ... the fact that our items are invisible without promoting makes me so mad.. Hopefully someone on eBay sees this video because you make some really good points about promoted listings.

    i don't remember what happened q1 2021 - maybe free stimulus checks still. but that looks about typical for my industry which is heavily q4 focused. pretty much thanksgiving day through xmas and then maybe another 3 weeks after , i can guarantee epic amounts of sales. then there's a lull in jan/feb of churn with returns offsetting new sales. but at some point people have spent all the money they can spend over the holidays and my theory is there's nothing available to spend even if they wanted to.

  • @donkeykong1234

    i mean amazon has sponsored ads all over the place as well. i consider them like banner ads, where over a decade of internet use -i just glaze over them but never click on them. in fact if i see sponsored, i go out of my way to not click on them because i feel it's a contrived forced placement and then also if i know i'm making the seller pay a bigger fee, i'll just sort lowest to highest and do them a favor by clicking and buying on their organic listing

  • @donkeykong1234
    @donkeykong12345 күн бұрын

    i'm glad you're honest with this. my theory on promoted is you want to be high enough to be placed on page 1 with the visiblity you're looking for. however, once you're #1 on best match, paying more money isn't going to make you any more #1. so you have to play around with the numbers to see if you can get placed where you want. i'm not saying people are just going to buy the first thing that comes up on their hits. but it's also pretty likely they will NOT go to page 4 to find yours either. i feel if you have a seasonal product where you sell like crazy without help, then it may be a good time to drop your promoted rate or drop it entirely if you don't need help selling then. i would really prefer not to pay any promoted at all, but it's hard to confidently say that promoted does not help. i think it helps, but at a huge rate increase and i probably do come out ahead about 30k profit a year despite huge fees in quantity and at a % level

    Kinda basic question. Do you just grab a handful of random cards and scan / list them or do you take a specific group (linen, etc.) And scan / list until you are done with all ofthem? I'm acquiring 2-3k of cards, all types, and wanted to get an idea of the best way to get them listed. Of course eventually all will be listed.

    Your 2 units for 1 makes the most sense. When I was buying these from bed bath & beyond 20 years ago, I bought some extra shelves. but the shelves were $20 each, so it made sense to buy 2 units instead. I gave the extra poles to the neighborhood kids for jousting and sword fights. What could go wrong?

    When I started buying them, they were a little more expensive, made by a company in Pennsylvania. Then they got cheaper, both cost and quality, and have been mediocre ever since. They work, but not as sturdy or well made as the originals. I didn't know what NSF stood for; it's for food safety.

I'm just a broke millennial from Jersey that needs to pay some bills and about 15 years ago I found a shoe box in an office cabinet someone threw away filled with old vintage postcards. Would you have links to the boxes (big white ones and medium gray ones) shown on your shelves? I do not need shelves at the moment yet (I don't have enough listed postcards) but I would like good boxes to store my listed inventory in. Cheers, Julien

    would you consider selling some medium grade postcard value kinda like that bread and butter cards for resellers? but already go ahead and price them so that someone new could take a few out for a personal collection and then list and post the others that you have already priced and done maybe just have a range like have it say a range that you just go hand select $15-20 15-20 20-25 20-25 etc. anyways i bought a book of japan postcards many of them rppc ones but there is a real oil painting one on wood or maybe bamboo but definitely wood like.
