How to pop up the front wheel. The secret to riding confidently offroad.
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Most adventure bike riders will never progress off-road until they learn to transfer all their weight to the rear of the motorcycle while simultaneously lifting the front wheel. Sounds easy? In this video we'll show you the basic skills of controlling your throttle, as well as weighting the rear of the bike to loft the front wheel across surprise obstacles and rugged terrain.
This video is intended for entertainment purposes only and showcases a professional rider in a controlled environment.

I was just thinking i need a Riemann1 fix...
Absolutely loving these basic technique videos, Adam. You've got such a great ability to explain the techniques in an easy-to-understand way (e.g. the ski analogy - genius!). Thanks, and keep 'em coming! Dan (Christchurch, New Zealand).
Dude this stuff is magic. You're such a great teacher and I feel like people don't talk about this stuff enough!
Man, please absolutely do keep making these basic technique videos. I need them. They will go along way towards keeping this T7 from having me for lunch.

More to come!
Oh man, awesome stuff as always, thank you so much for these videos. The more and more I practice and ride offroad, the more I realize that the key to traction is weight transfer and knowing when to load/unload suspension and wheels. Very often when our instinct is to shut the throttle, adding throttle to unload the front is actually the right move and you glide over a pothole that you would otherwise bite into.
This channel continues to deliver content that is far and away some of the most useful, entertaining and posted with high production quality. Adam, I can’t say thank you enough for your continued sharing of some very awesome talents!
So glad to see this turn into a series, awesome stuff, thank you for teaching us and helping us turn into better riders
Adam, the same thing happened to you when you were riding alongside Toby on the 1190's, i think you were filming the KTM rally and you lost it around a bend on old tyres, you straightened up and lopped it over a log in the scrub. Nicely done, awesome content. Can't wait to see more on the war horse. Cheers mate

Yes mate, you're exactly right - still the gnarliest save to date I've had on a big ADV and would not have come out of it safely if not for that instinctive last-second pop I'm describing in this video!

This is everything I asked for on that last video.. Im going to watch it a million times! Thank you so much!
Please continue to make videos like this! You are bringing a ton of value! A lot of us here are looking to learn these valuable techniques and have no one to teach us. You are an incredible rider, teach us!!!
An awesome training video Adam. I've always been a bit spooked with putting my 1090 on the back wheel, but your tutorial / explanation break it down into simpler, acheivable steps. Thanks mate.
Best practical lesson ever, right on the point and basic principle with no over exaggeration. Love it
I really love how you explain clearly and rationally technics, equipments and everything related to riding off road, that i forgot a bit with time, and it reminds me to think of refreshing some skills before the season, love your videos too, good sound, quality images and editing, nice narrations, keep up the good work !!
Started watching your channel to learn more about off-road riding. But you offer so much more. Thanks for sharing your wisdom in many arenas like traveling light, classic bikes, and now concussions. A real resource for all riders.
Absolutely love your ability to teach. Simple no nonsense sprinkled with some humorous quips. Your videos are fantastic.
I love your videos. Your tutorials aren't just descriptions of how something should feel when done right. You present the necessary steps to work for that perception yourself. Now I only need to find dirt to practice on... Cheers from Germany.
You sir are a gem! Thank you so much for all these videos. I'm a beginner adv rider that wants to get more into off road riding and I can't express how motivational these tutorials are. Thank you!
I have so much FUN watching & listening! Thanks for all. Keep on doing this. Here in Germany almost no possibility to go offroad.......
Thanks very much for this content! The explanation, on the hoof, is inspiring. Your skills both on the bike and ability to explain what you are doing, while doing it, is key. Big bike, and gaining confidence incrementally is a must. Cheers from Oregon USA
Love your videos mate! Keep them coming! “Training for the fight you hope never comes”… well said. Fundamentals first, blocking and tackling, skills skills skills, then goooo faaast!!!
Amazing video! So stoked to have found this channel. Exactly the sort of thing the adventure riding community needs.
I think this is the most succinct explanation of how to lift the front wheels that I've seen, with clear breakdown into stages. Thank you
I am fairly new to offroad riding and this is the best video I have seen so far on the subject on youtube! Thank you!
Adam, I'm a brand new rider but your descriptions of these techniques are so intuitive it's remarkable. It's great fun listening to you and watching you ride. Thanks!
I watched so many training videos but this teacher has something more that makes the approach to the exercises so Zen. Thank you from France.
Adam, I really do appreciate your instruction on the fundamentals of riding a big bike, and sharing your techniques. Thanks for taking the time to produce these videos. By the way, I installed your T7 GPS stabilizer brace on my bike and it is an excellent piece of engineering. Paul, Arizona, USA.

Thanks, Adam! Got a chance to try the first steps today on my Tiger 900. Just little squirts on and off the throttle on some dirt and muddy road. Having the technique in mind changed it from a fluttery-tummy ride to just having some fun. Managed the loft the wheel a bit a few times. Keep em coming!
Extremely valuable information. Just bought my first adventure bike and checking lots of tips and advice on KZread. Your channel stands out with very good content. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Adam...great stuff as always. Wish I would have found your many years ago when I bought my 1st dirt bike...my KTM 990. It is still my favorite bike off-road bike and your tips help me manage this wonderful beast much more effectively. Much appreciation!
Describing the steps to get started, gradually increasing confidence and the snow ski comparison when braking was awesome. This video is going to be a killer reference when trying this out, thanks! 🤘
Oh my days. I've never had the confidence (or technique) to transfer my manualling ability on a mountain bike across to my adventure bike. Your simple, clear way of explaining throttle chopping, etc has enabled me to finally crack it. No massive wheelies but enough to transform my riding. Cheers!
Always explained in such simple easy to understand steps. It’s funny how you take for granted some of these techniques that you pick up as a child from cycling or motorcycling. Some are instinctive but to be reminded of why it works and the mechanics of the suspension and brakes is fascinating. Great video series 👏🏼👏🏼
This has been an eye opener. Well explained and demonstrated. The safety aspect is emphasised, and I can see the value of learning this skill. Thank you for sharing.
This is the best description/breakdown that I've seen so far. And I've tried a lot of stuff. Last time I tried to clear a log (18") with my F8GS, I ended up in hospital with broken ribs and a broken foot. With this video, I think I (and my two new titanium screws) could attempt this method and not kill myself. THANK YOU!
This is absolutely the best demonstration of how to quickly pop the front up. Excellent video
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! We appreciate your time and effort sharing your knowledge. Keep it coming.
Awesome breakdown of the best steps to take to learn the skills to clear bigger obstacles. No extra BS (thank you!), just straight-to-it good info. Thanks for sharing.
As a new rider to dirt, I really appreciate these videos buddy. Thanks for these. Cheers from stateside.
This is one for the best videos on lofting I’ve ever seen! Thanks man. Hope to meet you in person and learn from you one day!
Cannot be explained and demonstrated in a better way - great video, many thanks, Adam.
Hi Adam! Thank you so much for explaining such basic, yet tricky, things. After 30 years in the saddle I’ve almost always neglected the suspension. Now I feel stupid and smarter at the same time:-) Thanks again!
I just discovered your videos, and these are some of the most informative motorcycle tutorials I've ever seen. Thank you!!
This stuff is gold. Listen hard everyone if you want to improve your riding. Master teacher right here 🙌🏾
I've just been looking for this kind of tutorial, thank you, very well explained and edited, I love the part where you compare it to the plane landing, it makes much sense.
Concepts, metaphors, break downs...you're a skilled training communicator Adam. You may have hit pay dirt here!
I’d call myself an experienced rider but although I did several off road trainings, I always wondered how to loft the front wheel. With your video, I think I can make it! Thanks a lot. You have a new follower😊!
Just wanted to say thanks for all these videos. As a new offroad rider (on a T7), these videos are invaluable for me. Can't say I've mastered anything yet, but I have direction. Thanks a lot!
Thank you for sharing your expertise, you are a very good and natural instructor. These skills will not only save many of us, but they will help us have more fun, and look cool doing it. You sir are rad.
You got the knack to explain riding technology in such an incredible way Adam. You are indeed a super orator. I don’t have a fine Ténéré like yours., only roads bikes but after watching the fun vids you make my back is starting to itch, badly…
Adam, that’s a great clip and brilliant guidance for pop up the front !!!!
Thanks for this video series Adam, i remind myself all the time that i do not practice like this as much as i should, just for fun or definitely when every season starts. Great as always! /Mattias
I've been ADV riding for about 20 years and I love watching these videos. Just listening to something I've learned through experience (often the hard way) explained so perfectly is really satisfying. It's like "yes, that's exactly what it's like!" Also, although I'm still learning new stuff all the time, I used to be more deliberate about honing one particular skill at a time. These videos help me focus on making that a willful activity instead of just going out for a ride.
Excellent content, most practical and simplest training video that I have come across to date. It can be done by anyone, anywhere and anytime. I can't wait for the next video 👍👍👍
Fantastic video. Your explanation is great. I’m going to try this once its warmer out. Great video and great quality!
Thank you for this video. I did these drills for about an hour one day and now I can loft the front no problem! Going to keep practicing! Thank you!
All these videos are just so good. I am new to adventure biking and I am using these videos to practice these things. Thanks Adam
excellent tips and descriptions ... it all makes sense! I've been turfing myself and my bike for years trying to pop over logs
Mate you are a godsend, such a good teacher and you have a way of explaining things.
That is the BEST explanation of this subject I have seen. Thank you again.
I find this guy yesterday. I do watch now all his videos. F so addictive 🤣 Thanks for sharing tips & tricks with us 🙏
thank you very much for these videos, for me they are the clearest ones all over the net, keep the good work coach!
Yep, this incremental approach makes a huge difference. Thanks.
Loving these riding tips mate! Can't wait to try them out each time I watch one. Thanks
So very much appreciated Adam! Great rider and teacher. 🏍💨
This is one of the BEST videos I have ever seen. What a class mate, what a class. Will make sure to follow the rest of the videos since I switched to a large 950 pumpkin.
what a superb set of instructional videos,. Expressed clearly and well. Wish I was an off road rider.
Thank you so much. You are literally saving lives here!
Enduro is the mother of learning how to ride a bike!!! Great video my brother!!! Stay safe and have fun!
Wonderfull instructional video, I've watched quite a few and yours are the best. Thank you and please keep them coming.
Great stuff! Thank you! When we have a bit better weather here will definitely dedicate time on practicing it
Great way to break down this technique, now I need to start doing the work. Thanks!
These videos are simply amazing bro. Love 'em!
👏👏👏 Great breakdown. Key skill for trail riding and one that I've never managed to transition from trail to adv bike. 2023 is the year 🙂
these tutorial vids are awsome, keep it up mate ❤
You do such a great job with these videos, really tremendous!! Many thanks!
Awesome!!! I am going to practice this now. Thank you so much!!!
This was amazing thanks Riemann, will practice it on the weekend!
Great video! I like the recent direction you are going with more "How-To" videos. Regarding this technique the big bike seems to require more technique to loft the front wheel than it does on a 450. For me, it works better if I have the engine spinning a bit before trying to bring it up, where as on a 450 will lift the front end right off idle.
These videos are great! Definitely given me some ideas for things to practice this season.
As always, fantastic video, explained very well.
Really nice and useful explanations. No time filling boring fake talk, just the core with nice examples. Well done! 😎👍
I love these videos I use them ad guidance to Practice skills on my dualsport before I get my big bike
That was the first technique video I have watched of yours. It was very very good and I am an advanced rider. Excellent presentation and gradual learning advice.
This is worth more than gold. Thanks and Namaste.
Another brilliant video Adam- I've been looking to practice this technique as I evolve my riding but most videos I've seen seem to try to teach wheelie technique- this strips it down and explains the physics. Thank you and I'm looking forward to working on this over the weekend. BTW- looks like you film all of this just with you- really good end product.
great video with many helpful details ! thank you very much ! btw. I travelled form 2012 till 2016 by pushbike from Munich to Singapore and around Australia , Perth to Perth and Tassie (1,5years) then I lived one year in Auckland . since 2019 I am back on motobike and own a BMW R1250 GSA and a Husqvarna 701.... I highly enjoy offroad , but there is still a lot of "room for improvement". I really like your way to explain all steps and will follow your channel for sure ...wish you all the best ! cheers from Germany
Incredible explanation .. i just realized and understood what i could not in the last years .. thanks
This is a awesome thank you. Top notch content that will hopefully save some injuries and money.
Really good info here, If you are finding it a bit daunting on a big bike maybe worth having a look at a trials experience your local area you will be guided through the whole technique on the lightest bikes going and its all transferable. I found it very helpful myself
Your ability to describe the dynamics and technique is fantastic. Even more impressive is how you break down the practice to get the techniques cemented. I've watched a few clinics by top hard enduro riders and they haven't quite broken techniques down as well as you are. I doff my cap, sir. I'm a conservative rider and have confidence struggles trying to improve my riding, stuff like big logs across the trail. Got the technique but not the balls. A big log caught me out one day and I had to hit it on the fly, for some reason my brain focused on where I needed to be rather than fixating on the obstacle. In a blink I was over it like Toni Bou, I was more shocked than if i had crashed. Been my go to ever since, where do I need to put the bike after the obstacle?
With all the rain around Australia in the last year this is good to learn, here in broken Hill the tracks are hard pact and full of washouts and loose creek sand
Couldn’t come at a better time. Just bought my Tenere 700 yesterday upgrading from my DRZ400s. Cheers from California 🤙🏻
These videos are monsterous! So much good and useable info in such a short video
Your right again mate gotta get the front up aye a lot of these new big thumpers are front heavy and don’t let you turn of the traction aids completely you gotta force it practice it , my transalps awsome for this had to firm up the front she pops up a treat now ,get out there and ride .great vid as always adsy cheers
Great video and great analogy with the curved part of a ski! Waiting for the snow to dissapear now so I can start practicing this technique.
LOVING these Tenere vids!
The ski analogy was a brilliant way to explain it
this is gold if you are a beginner, and good reminder if you are experienced
Love this. Thanks from someone who couldn’t do this before
These big bike technique videos are freegin awesome!
