How To Pop Up in Surfing - Follow Along Workout for Fast & Powerful Pop Ups

Hey Team, this workout is designed to assist your body to gain the core control, upper body strength and hip mobility that it needs to complete fast, smooth, strong and consistent pop ups in surfing.
It's best if you can do this workout 3 times per week, and if it begins to get easier, see if you can fit more repetitions of the exercise into each time slot.
Of course, if you have any injuries or conditions, it is best to consult with your trusted physician first before embarking on any program.

Thank you Ruby! I am 62 years old and have never surfed. But, in a month, I'm joining my son and his wife in LA and we're going to head to the beach for me to try some beginner surfing. I asked them for some exercises to help me try to prepare and my daughter-in-law sent me this video. It is very tough and I'm still not able to do the two complete sets, but I'm doing it every morning and I'm already improving! Even if I end up not being able to surf, I think I'll keep doing these exercises. I feel stronger already!

so, how did the surfing go ? I took it up late in life (52, 9 years ago) and never let go.

@@rayo1371 LOL. Thanks for asking! I struggled with it. Got up on my feet one time. Needed more time to learn. But, the exercises really helped with being able to give it a good try!
Been doing these each day of the week. I can't believe how good the production and instruction is. Sorry to see this channel seems to have stopped a few years ago. It's first class.

Never surfed in my life. Live in Wisconsin, U.S. But I LOVE this workout. Up to twice a week now and I noticed my other workouts are easier because of it. Keep these videos coming because maybe someday I’ll get to try surfing 😁

Just did it again, could only do it one set the day before yesterday, today, I did both sets. Love this! Hope it helps.

E Ruby! Mahalo nō iā ʻoe! Ruby, thank you! I am preparing to learn to surf in the waters where my father learned. I have a little over a month to practice the pop ups. I am hoping 30 years as a contemporary dancer will help. My brother, who was a professional surfer, says they are different body languages and doesnʻt think so. Weʻll see! I am 64 yo! Women in the waves with the goddess of the sea, playing, in delight, and mystery.
I think I recognize that beach.. is it the place with the name translating as great/big wave?

Hi Ruby, what length board would you recommend to a beginner? Male, 6ft 82kg. I tried a mini mal 7' I stood up a few times in the white water, but was thinking maybe a board a bit longer might help? Cheers

Hi! I’ve recently had a baby, so I’ve been out of action. Also, my local area has banned drones which is a pain in the ass! Hard to make content. I’ll get back there hopefully. Thanks for the comment

I've added this on after Mick Fanning's workout in preparation to start surfing in a couple months time. Starting at just twice a week, I do other conditioning throughout, will increase days as endurance grows)
