    Maybe I misunderstood, but I've always learned and also experienced that the closer you get to the pole as you're spinning, the faster you're actually spinning. Not the other way round.

    Hello! Yes, if you are on a spinning pole, the closer in you are, the faster you will spin! If you need to slow down, if you spread your body away from the pole, the spinning pole will slow down. However, on a static pole, if you spin with your body close to the pole, your momentum will go straight down and you won't get that many rotations around the pole. On a static pole, to create speed, you have to keep your hips far away from the pole to create a sling shot or tether ball effect to gain momentum to get you around! This video was referencing getting spin rotation around a static or non-spinning pole, which is opposite of when your working on a spinning pole. =) Hope that helps clarify where I was coming from when videoing this! Cheers! xo Ember

    What about keeping momentum and spinning while doing tricks up high on the pole? Any tips to stay spinning as you do extended butterfly for instance?

  • @VAMPSFitness

    @VAMPSFitness

    5 жыл бұрын

    Hey Genna! Great question. The challenges with moves like butterfly is that the further your hips and limbs get away from the pole, the slower you usually start to spin. If you are high on the pole and want to keep that spin going I would suggest the following tips. 1. Choose moves that keep your center of gravity (hips) closer to the pole versus expanding legs, arms and hips away from the pole 2. If you do extend, intentionally engage your core to aim to keep moving in the direction you want to keep spinning, in addition to planning that anything body part you extend out, can then be brought back in with some circular force and momentum to re-gather any spin that was lost to keep that spinning going. (If that makes sense...) 3. Know that certain combinations help keep you spinning while others, no matter what you do, will eventually lead you to a stop. So, choose wisely and play with different combinations! It's like a puzzle. I had this challenge on a spinning pole part of a competition piece (video link below). You can check out the first minute. I had to stay spinning the whole time. Notice how I went from slowing down to speeding up. Moves away and extended out, to ones that were more close in back to some that moved out again. It took forever to figure this combo out, but I used the tips above to help figure it out. Good luck and thanks for watching. Hope some of this helps! xo kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y4l6pqqOkZTfmtI.html

    My pole dance teacher says that I experience a rare problem in pole dancing where my grip is way too tight. All of my weight distributes to my hands. Could this have something to do with weak shoulder and back muscles? How do I fix it

  • @VAMPSFitness

    We are making some new instructional videos, so we will make sure we do a video on some great exercises to help with this. Many people have the "death grip" challenge! From my experience, this can be from having stronger grip than shoulder muscles or could also be from learning to loosen your grip which is sometimes hard, but something you can work on for sure to help put ease into your moves. Thanks for watching!

    I know this is an old comment and you’ve probably remedied this by now, but I thought I’d comment in case someone else is having the same problem. I’ve been teaching pole dance for 15 years and have had quite a few students struggle with the death grip. They are usually able to overcome this by releasing their thumb and gripping only with the heel of their palm and fingers. Not to be confused with a cup grip, you don’t remove your thumb entirely. Just release its pressure on the pole. The thumb should be your brake, apply pressure when you wish to slow down or stop. Hope this helps😊

    @@calishabaker6087 That is EXCELLENT advice. Thank you for that. I like the thumb being mentioned as "your brake"! Super smart teaching. Appreciate your feedback as I am sure it will help others and as teachers we are always learning new ways to help students, and ourselves! We never stop learning in pole. xoxo

    My pole instructor showed us to point our little finger and only grip with 3 fingers + thumb if we were gripping too hard. It does a lot to weaken the grip and actually became too much for me (I just fell to the floor), but it helped me find the midpoint where I needed to be as I now had a weak grip and too strong grip I could compare and adjust between.

    I’m having a lot of trouble (just started) with things like being able to keep myself up on the pole, strength wise I can’t pull myself up for whatever reason, and I spin so fast it’s hard for me to be able to try new tricks, then of course hard for me to grip, are my biggest issues...any advice? I’ve been trying to learn since December now and I can’t even get past a basic fireman spin...

    Hey Samantha, That is such a bummer to be feeling like you aren't gaining any grip and still on the struggle bus! You are not alone, and it takes some time to feel grippy! It took me a year to get my hands from not slipping a lot and feeling like I had some grip - and this was before there were grip aids. So, first off I would say to not be hard on yourself. Pole takes a lot of time and some people have the magical chemistry, humidity and pole that is way easier to grip. Make sure you are cleaning the pole between every move, spin, and climb attempt with rubbing alcohol and a rag. Make sure you have no oils or lotion on your hands. If you have sweaty hands, a little bit of dry hands or other aids can help a bit, but rubbing alcohol goes a long way! Make sure your pole isn't being blasted with cold air from the AC. Cold pole equals a slippery pole! Also if you have a humid house or studio, this can also cause it to be more slippery. A pole in Ohio feels different than one in Texas. Other than that, just keep with it and I would suggest practicing basic pole fitness moves like holding the pole in baseball grip and doing shoulder shrugs or lifting your feet up off the floor. If you start sliding, let yourself slowly slide down all the way and do it again. Repetition is key and your skin takes a while to sometimes get used to the activity and know not to sweat and will toughen up a bit over time. I hope some of this helps and good luck. I know the struggle is real though, and it does take some time. Mighty grip makes gloves and knee pads that are super sticky too! They are great for working on technique without having to deal with slipping but doesn't work on spins, just static moves, but that is a way to build strength with other parts of your body and give your self a chance to climb for instance without dealing with any slipping. That might be a good option as well. Hope this helps in some little way! xoxo
