How to play Shogi(将棋) -Lesson#31- Threatmate and Brinkmate

Ойындар

I'll be talking about threatmate and brinkmate. It's very important that you keep threatmates in mind when you play shogi. You should always remind yourself of this shogi proverb "To check is to chase".

    6:41 the silver is bait, now I get it ;), then gold 3a, king goes to the right, gold takes knight, king goes right to avoid mate, gold takes lance, king goes left, and dragon 2a ^^. hm, some I thought wouldn't work, others I couldn't figure out, and some were briliant ^^. Arigatai desu, Hidetchi-sensei ^^!

    I see. In my current plan, the 1st part of this "How to play Shogi" will end in Lesson#37. The last one, #37, will be my "final advice in Part-1", in which I'll be talking about "How to become a strong player". I hope that'll be some help to you. And Part-2 will be the videos of exercize as I said. I'll also make another series of "Strategy Lessons", too.

    Thanks for the kind comment, SilasCrane-san. I'm not sure what you mean by "study skills", but I'm planning to make videos with lots of exercize problems. Will that be an answer to your request?

    We're in the middle New Year's holiday in Japan. I'm out of my place during the holiday, so I'll make the next one after I get back. So just wait for several days till I make it.

    I have been watching your Shogi videos and I have come to respect and enjoy the game very much! There is so much information in these videos (I really enjoy your videos about the etiquette of Shogi and the world of Shogi in Japan). But for a beginner, the information can be a lot to take in. I was wondering if you would consider doing a lesson about study skills and committing all this wonderful information to memory. I think it would help many beginners to absorb the information meaningfully.

    If either the knight or the lance takes the bishop, the king escape route is now cut at 1c. The next moves are : drop gold on 3a, king will have to flee to the right, 2b (gold is covered with your rook) and your gold will pursue him (King 2b,Gold 2a). King can now go to 3b (checkmate with Rook 3a, promote) or 1b (Gold 1a check, then King has no choice but 2b, then rook promote 2a, checkmate) but not to 1c (because there is now a lance/knight). If bishop isn't taken, then gold drop 3a or 2b.

    Thank you for posting these great videos Hidetchi sensei, but I have a question. Where can I find the same good-quality shogi board that you have?

    @iLuvHinata360 That's right. And also, if the king moves to 1b, then the dragon can take the knight and it's checkmate.

    I meant black when I said white drops silver/Bishop. I also see the checkmate if black takes the white rook with black rook if white decides to take silver with bishop, but that very turn isn't a check at all, right?

    @vinniram: You can order tsumeshogi and hisshishogi books on Amazon Japan, and many of them ship worldwide. Just be sure you don't buy too advanced books on there. ^^;

    Pawn promotion on the left (4b), King must go to the right (1a) and a right pawn promotion on 2b... The promoted pawns are protected by the silver. :)

    The mating moves after Bishop takes the Silver are: S*2b K-1b B*2a

    Are you sure it's a brinkmate? How do you mate after P-8d, for example? The 9c bishop being taken by the king is no problem because it's a brinkmate.

    And thank you for your response, HIDETCHI-san. I think exercise problems would be a big part of what I mean by "study skills." But let me explain it further this way: I would like to become a better Shogi player; maybe even a "competent" Shogi player. How can I efficiently use your videos and other resources to become stronger? Is there a method of study you would suggest? How did you become the kind of Shogi player your are today?

    Hi Hidetchi-san, can you tell me where I could order some tsumeshogi and hisshishogi books? I can't read Japanese, but since there are no such books in English I figure I might as well try and make my way through some of those books, just on the diagrams.

    Hidetchi-san, sorry I've been asking a few stupid questions because I can't interpret shogi as fast as you can but I've really been trying hard with my time limits due to school learning shogi, but still has yet to master it. Anyways, at 8:26, what if white bishop takes the black Silver on board, then how do you continuously check until mate because the king can escape somehow if white drops the silver at 2b, 3b, or Bishop at 6f.

    just came back to this puzzle after some time and saw *31 again. I now see it's inaccurate because although the z means it's still checkmate in a brinkmate move initiative, it's a slower checkmate than the problem solution. Still technically allowed based on the rules at the beginning of the video.

    if the king takes the bishop, the silver can mate on c9, if the lance takes, then a9. 2 questions: at 8:59 , how do you play after bishop c9? and 9:13 : cant white avoid the mate by lance b2?

    I can tell u the answer to ur second Q which is after Lance 2b bishop 2b+ checkmate the king is checked by the horse as well as the the discouraged Lance king can't take the horse on 2b as the knight on 3d is protecting it. For ur first Q the only way I can think of is if rook or knight takes then it's a simple gold drop to 8b. But what happens if king takes on 9c? I don't think it's possible unless he forgot to put a knight on 8e but then again I'm just a 12yrs old who enjoys tactical games so there probably is a way but it's too much for me brain to handle XD

    gold 4a - put gold 3a - king 4b - gold 4a - king 3b - put gold 3a checkmate gold 4a - put gold 3a - gold 3a - bishop 3a promotion checkmate or if you meant white to put a gold on 4a, then it would be putting gold 3a - gold 3a - bishop 3a promotion and it's also checkmate

    Hi Hidechi, why in 6:55 is a Brinkmate? The Knight or a lance can take the bishop...

  • @TheTinyAngry

    @TheTinyAngry

    6 жыл бұрын

    PedroLTQ it's fine since the whole purpose of the bishop drop was to block the king's escape on the 1c square after either knight or Lance takes gold drop to 3a king runs to 2b gold take knight if captured with Lance if not then moves to 2a if king goes back rook to 3a+ checkmate. If king runs to 1b gold moves to 1a forcing the king to go back to 2b since 1c is occupied by the Lance/knight and then rook to 2a+ checkmate
